@jhaul21 I think you'll find, if you watch carefully, that Banahan has both arms wrapped around the ball when he takes the contact - Banahan is a tall man and the tackler went in much higher than he should have done, resulting in the forearm contact with his chin/neck. You really cant expect the ball carrier to have done anything differently, and I'm quite sure Kelly Brown would agree.

I have absolutely nothing against 'tough' play - or players - but this was an illegal and dangerous play by Banahan. Under the Laws of the Game, a player is not permitted to 'charge' or 'barge' into another player, deliberately using his forearm/shoulder as a battering ram, as Banahan did on this occasion. This sort of thing is being seen more and more in rugby and, frankly, it's not doing the game of rugby, or some of its players, any good.

@jgw58 the thing with the laws are its down to how the ref interprets them, with charging laws in rugby, they are usually interpreted along the lines of, if he had his foreare already out and went into players with that, that would be the illegal move, but this is coached (to Tigers players for sure) and has a name (not 100% sure what it actually is) refering to it as like a roman shield hit :/

I like Brown, a good, solid hard playing fella, but he got his technique wrong, and against a bloke as big and fast as banahan, you're gonna get knocked out. He did not strike Brown either, he used his arm to push brown away AFTER having smashed into him. Brown was unconcious at the moment of impact, hence there was no citing.
