hah! they wrote their own songs? you kidding? the art of ripping off has been around forever, not to mention the cover was fully a part of rock culture for the larger part of it's history.
IF YOU NEVER HAD A BIG FAT WOMAN DON'T KNOCK IT.THEY ARE GOOD DANCERS AND BETTER LOVERS,hotrod3able GET ON DOWN BIG JOE TEX HE WILL ROCK THE JOINT EVERY TIME.
I love this post!! I remember watching this on Soul Train!!! That girl was doing the bump and getting the job done!! Beautiful African American Women has got it going on even back then and today!!!!!
That song was the shit back in the day. Now that Im watching this vid....Tex's pants were so damn tight he cant even move, let alone dance! Im sorry y'all...but He had some serious "nut huggers"on! *screaming in laughter*
Oh well. Now we know he was lip-syncing because when the woman came on stage, he was no longer singing near the microphone but you could still hear the vocals in the song. She was large and in charge.
Hey this is my family right here!!!! Go Joe... I have so many stories that have been passed down to me from my grandma and aunties who are all from the same lil town in Texas as JoeTex.. Like the skinny leg contest.. Ha, I wish we still had this kind of music around!!
OK. Brief history lesson. Most of the acts that performed on Soul Train were not live. Doesn't matter because when they were truly in concert they could knock the socks off of just aboout anybody anywhere. These acts honed their craft and Joe Tex was no different. He was a natural performer and showman and used his God given talent to bring just a little more joy & happiness to us all. And he had some legendary performances ala Soul Train. A flame extinguished just a little too early. R.I.P. JT.
This song was my parent's fav song. i can see them in the kitchen now , eventhough they are gone. boy, this really brings back good, loving memories. i don't know why Joe Tex sounds like George Foreman ? Maybe because they both are from Texas ?
Sonds you could really sing to. I was 9 in '77 and I remember so many songs from the '70's. Billy, Don't Be a Hero, The Night Chicago Died, Afternoon Delight, Seasons In the Sun...
I was only six in 1977 and I loved this song when I was small. Two things that I want to say is, This video is so hot that it makes me smile! Then it saddens me at the same time when I think of how much better things were back then. :( makes me feel like laughing and crying at the same time... thank you for the memory.
when Joe Tex performed this song on AMERICAN BANDSTAND on July 16, 1977 the dancers in the audience could not stop screaming. Dick Clark had to tell them "be quite you animals". lol. This song rec'd heavy airplay hear in nyc on WBLS-FM during the summer of 1977.
Erik - you have posted a great song here..Its good and LOUD!! Most postings aren't loud enough..I can't get enough of this song!! I was 26 yrs old when it came out in May 1977, according to Soul Train.
OMG I'm on the phone with my cousin and told her I think a woman is going to come on stage with him...................damn my memory is good! That was one of my favorite songs as a child.................ahh the memories!
To Delboy65....you have no idea what you're talking about when you say there weren't many live acts then. I grew up in the 70's, you could find a live act just about anywhere. The 70's was the best time of my life and I'm sure many others when it came to music. You PLAYED an instrument, you SANG your own song. You could go to a basement party get into a fight and everybody's playing together the next day. I know I'm not alone when I say I WISH THOSE DAYS COULD COME BACK ONCE MORE!
@mrleroy66 You are so right. I don't know what delboy is talkin' boy. Live bands was the norms. There were so many great bands. Where in the heck you think the all the great music came from. It was created by the various acts, bands, etc.
Some folks are just to ignorant to even to bother with. My daddy always told me not to associate with folks who don't know more than me. I think it's good advice.
@mrleroy66 YES! 70's rock. That was when you could enjoy music. That was when the artists could sing, and actually wrote their own songs and didn't do dodgy cover notes. You are definately not alone mrleroy66 I will stand beside you on this one. 50's, 60's & 70's ROCK! I am a proud 70's babe. There was talent back in those days. Enjoyable talent, conceivable talent. Relatable talent.
I agree with you. The artists in before 1980 had to have real talent. You had to be able to sing to compete. There were hundreds who blow you out of the water vocally. Joe Tex was a vocalist and entertainer.
One poster seemed amazed that he left the mike and the music kept playin.'
the 1st time i heard this was in 1979...my oldest sister used to play it all the time. she had us younger sisters doing the bump...man, those were the good old days!
You don't want her, give to me. She's a curvy one.
