  • should add a nice intermission without the drums and it'd be perfect. Nice though

  • Good mix. Who`s remix is that Relax track @ background?

  • How is this setup for going from a DJ set, into a live remix session like this one , and then back into a set? In other words, is it good for DJing, AND doing live remixes within the larger set, are are those different aspects of this setup not really to be used together?

  • @repfreedomforce would be very easy mate. just run your laptop audio output into a spare channel on the dj mixer you are having the decks on, and when you want to noodle around your own remixes just transfer over to the apc... mind you, you might ACTUALLY have to beatmatch your laptop to the decks (and then when you come back off the APC) ...i think a lot of "modern" djs dont even know how to beatmatch anymore!

  • sick!!!

  • That was awesome... make me miss the days when I did this shit

  • OH CHUFFING WOW!!!!! Stephen, would you mind if i put this on my Ipod??

this is an unbelievable sound man. i rate it an 11 out of 10. the first time i've gone over 10. well done

  • GR8*! :-D

I'm looking for a controller too, can this one work with Reason Propellerheads?

  • Comment removed

  • Niiiiceee done!!!

  • this sick man!! keep it up!!! im def contemplating this as a new piece of gear.

    Thanks

  • hi! is APC40 suitable for PRODUCING of music ? thx,

  • @wtfkarWill69 well it works with Ableton Live. It just depends on your definition of producing. I happen to be remixing with it, but you can do anything you like really. It's a live controller not a sequencer or something.

  • saw this thing for the first time last night, 2 hours later I was at guitar center buying one. Amazingly fun and easy to use! The only boring part is chopping up samples and setting up the loops, but theres really no getting around that if you don't wanna use pre-set up templates by others.

  • @thegwd I suppose it depends what you enjoy really!

  • That is awesome. The descriptions are gold. thx

  • Absolutely sick! Can we get an mp3 :) ?

  • awesome man! so is this apc40 good for live djing as well as producing and remixing tracks? id like to know because im doing a hefty search for a controller, this seems to be my leader!

  • @FMIF1028 It's perfect for DJ, probably more so than producing. There's loads of DJs who use it.

  • Was debating on whether to get the apc40 or 20 you made up my mind!

    Awesome mix man!

  • was debating on getting the apc40 until i saw this ,just ordered it . very hot mix ....

  • Super cool mix man!!!!

  • Pure Genious man

  • Personally my fav of ur mixes. I didn't really like American Ghostbusters, Money For Nothing, or Love Story. But this one is epicly dancable.

  • Amazing man congratulations!!! Retrofeedmix Cheers from México

  • ay bro sick mix! I want to buy a mixer too.

What do you think if you know, what mixer is better this one or the native instruments maschien?

  • @MrCydia they are two different things. The maschien is a standalone instrument really, this is a controller. For getting fast results though, I use this more than any of my other music equipment.

  • @MrCydia The Maschine is not a mixer.

  • this is the first time i think my subwoofer used that much low end love it.

  • Excellent work, Stephen!

  • again thats good shit

  • I messed around with an APC40 not too long ago, and i found it hard to fade tracks? Is there a special way to do it? or am i just retarded.

for instance: When i was mixing some house tracks, it just seems too abrupt when cueing another song in, like there was too much going on, and then fading from track to track just seemed like it was bad?

feedback anyone? cause i am considering picking up one.

  • Hah!!! Interesting mix =)))

  • You the man. Right on! Keep those funky beats coming.

  • Great EQing bro! Great ideas man!!

  • Hi I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on controlling effectrix on audio channels? I've managed to get it sorted on a midi channel fine, changing patterns through the 'pattern keys' but when I put effectrix onto an audio track i lose that capability, I've been looking for a way to side chain it but can't see it anywhere. I'm sure i'm just missing something simple, if its something small and anyone knows could they please let me know.

Thankyou so much, and amazing video as always :)

  • FIFA 98!!!! GOGOGO FRANKIE GOES TO FIFA )98 xD

  • very good remix i like it :)

  • Very nice work fella..we like around here...

  • Late to the party, but damn. Faved and fived.

(This is what YouTube rippers are for. Wink.)

  • This is really great. Any way to get this to download to my mp3 collection? Great workout song.

  • well I got to say I've never thought about djing or remixing until i saw this video, amazing job man (I normally can't stand remixes).

also you now have me sold on the apc40

  • @darkmaer I never did remixes until I bought an APC40! It just makes it so easy.

  • bloody awesome! i have a numark cdmixII so I can't do anything this complicated with that...

  • Im interested in music production and was thinking about getting the APC40 but have no idea how to use it or ableton.any suggestions?

  • If you want to make big hit ,just do any tune and mix it with crystal method coz they are THE BEST !!!! Btw good job dude, waiting for more he he ;)

  • Awesome remix!! I don't like Frankie Goes To Hollywood but this remix kicks ass!

  • wow man, i think that your best yet :)

  • Fantastic mix! I can't stop listening to it!!! I sent it to all my friends. Thanks a lot! Keep it coming.

  • Thanks very much for the feedback :)

  • you sold me on the apc40 have you added any other hardware software....come on send me your set up!!

  • Well what you are hearing is 100% ableton live 8 with Effectrix, Lucifer, and QuadFrohmage through a Digi Mbox 2 Pro. I actually didn't use Live much before I got the APC40, and did most of my work in Pro Tools, Logic, Reason, and the Spectrasonics plugins. Since I've had the APC40 though I literally haven't fired up any of my other applications - including my Euphonix MC Mix hardware. It's really changed everything.

  • Awesome stuff mate! How do you setup the midi data being sent from the two right most tracks so it feeds Lucifer?

  • By default the black notes for Lucifer will trigger variations of 8ths, 16ths, 32nds etc. while the white ones either trigger a new pattern or a particular effect. I've just drawn in MIDI notes on the clips for each of the black notes, and set the mode on the clip to be gated so it stops when I take my finger off. Lucifer and Effectrix effect the entire mix, but I left it with about 50/50 dry/wet so that it doesn't cut out the music completely.

  • Thanks for that info. Do you mean you have a seperate midi clip for each black note? or that you have midi clips which contain many midi notes? I understand the concept of using midi clips to send midi notes into lucifer or other VST, but am a bit confused about how to actually draw the notes in the clip if you see what i mean?

  • And you put lucifer onto the master track i assume?

    Thanks!

  • Correct.

  • may someone tell me what lucifer actually is please?

  • @schnikae It's a very advanced glitch plugin. Pretty hard to figure out though. I have to go back to the manual each time I fire it up!

  • No problem. I have a separate clip per MIDI note. This means that when I hit one of the pads it will play G# or something, another one F# etc. This will then trigger the appropriate note repeat on Lucifier (8th, 16th, 32nd) etc. I literally just took the pencil tool and drew in the note for a full bar. The Lucifer manual will help out too. Is that the info you were after?

  • excellent - yeh thanks that was exactly what i was after :-)

  • Niiiice! You playing @ BDO 2010?? :-D

  • akaiapc40 com

  • awesome! really want an apc40 and to learn how to play ableton in this way

  • Amazing Mix, i really like it. How did you setup everything in Ableton ? If i watched correctly you did cut the trax in to different loops, right ?

    Cheers

  • Thanks! The two right most tracks have MIDI data on them to trigger effects. Track 1 has an extra couple of basslines I put in to give it a bit more interest and some thump down the bottom, track 2 - 4 have chopped up parts of Relax, and then 5 and 6 have loops from Busy Child.

  • Thanks a lot for the info, guess i need to cut some trax today and feed my APC40 ;)

    Cheers
