This was a great time in music, and I agree that this should have been a huge country hit, along with more Emmylou Harris songs, etc! Sincerely, BobbyK
I saw Jonathan Edwards twice in 3 days in Maine. Seeing him play was the reason for my vacation there. He is AMAZING, and tells great jokes and stories. If you get a chance to see him live, it's worth it. I asked him to this song and "Nova Scotia." He graciously did both! Please don't make the mistake of thinking of JE as a "Legend." He'll be a legend later: for now, he's one of the best and most active performers anywhere! Check out his NEW album.
Carolina called my name more than 20 years ago, and I finally came back for good summer before last. I feel the breeze from the ocean as I write this. Thanks for sharing this one, so beautiful. Jonathan Edwards is an American treasure.
I first heard Carolina Caroline on a juke box in a North Dakota truck stop in 1982. It never seemed to get much play, and I didn't catch the name of the artist at the time. As a result, I never heard it again until just now. I did remember the name of the song, and used to regularly click on it, but I guess no one ever posted it before. It feels a lot like finding a long lost hidden treasure. Thank you so much for having such an astute appreciation for what is truly beautiful.
I loved this song from the first moment I heard it many years ago. Jonathan Edwards has lost none of his amazing ability. I must confess every time I watch this video, I fall just a little in love with his magnificent daughter Grace :) Overall, wonderful song!!!
The video shows there were 587 views. I've watched it about 20 times as probably others have, so that number is no indication of how much this great song and performance is appreciated. I still own the original single from decades ago. So happy to see JE is just as good as he always was.
If this is what's available, so be it..the recorded version was so beautiful that i have to feel I miss it..but nice to find anything at all...maybe someday someone with a copy of the original, will make a vid of it with stills or whatever...that would be wonderful!
@mizdarlin2 I remember this from the 70s and searched and searched for it until I was given a heads up about the artists name and found it on limewire from which I downloaded it. That is closed down now, but somebody must have it.
it took me about 20 years to find this song. It was my favorite song in the seventies, then fell off. i managed to find the CD about ten years ago. I would love to find an original video, if there's such a video in existence.
Thank you for posting this!! It's the only live version of Jonathan signing this song (as far as I know). It's my favourite of his. I spent many, many years (before the Internet!) trying to it track down. I did a few years back. You know: a song refrain gets stuck in your head, but you can't recall the artist and title. Anyways, this is VERY special for me. It's a wonderful rendition, and I'm so grateful to you both and to the host channel for posting this! <3
@landofsuchbeauty I had front row seats at a Jonathan Edwards performance back in 2007, where he asked the audience if they had any requests. I asked for "Carolina Caroline" and "Little Hands", and he politely replied that he didn't/doesn't perform them live....at that time, anyway. I accepted without any hard feelings....he had already sung "Train of Glory", so I didn't feel that I was owed anything.

How this song was not #1 on the charts is beyond me. The original recording is one of the most beautiful songs ever.

In the mean time... it's great to hear again.
