if you ever spot a Peli brand case in a surplus store Go for it ,,italian made they're made from a combination of resin and fiberglass and they're used in a lot of fields from photography diving plus they make for indestructible cases to mount on your vehicle..waterproof as well..worst case scenario you can resell it for a decent profit

Where is a good place to buy com equipment , I would only have me, my son and may be a friend or two , if they have skills. We would need t o communicate only short distances and may a radio for news and info, assuming any is to be had.

maybe i'm wrong(probably) but i was under a very direct impression that the reason that this case was once insulated is because it was required to protect the touchy electronics from e.m.p. i was also under the impression that once this box has had this insulation removed the e.m.p. would cook the gear inside. protecting a man from electrical current is one thing, (look up current Mohan) defending your gear from e.m.p. might be another story...

You must of never seen The Government in Canada, my father works for them and all of his tools are 100% working condition and he got for free from stuff they were throwing out. Also they used to have Solar Water heaters on top of some building and they decided to throw them out(they were put up on the 1970's and taken down in the 1980's and we have used them ever since and never had one problem.

We also have much more, a 40ft by 80ft barn full with free stuff going into the garbage.

It more than likely is nothing more than a radio case. My uncle had one that he got from when he was in the navy, he has seen so many of these for sale at many army surplus stores with different name to them. the side with the foam rubber was to hold the radio and battery while the other side was for important documents.

I worked Communications for the Army for 22 years until I retired in 2006. You have a good find there! However, let me tell you that it is NOT EMP proof, nor is it bulletproof. It is a sturdy case designed to store and transfer electronic equipment. I am not sure, as they come in all shapes and sizes. BTW, the little button under the carry handle is to release pressurized air, since they are airtight.

I think a better suggestion would be to get in shape and not what the swamp thing told you. It's good to be strong and in shape for survival, you may have to lift heavy things, walk or run long distances. And forgive my bluntness, but those past 50 years haven't been "survival" they were living luxuriously, with a roof over your head and food on the table.

Yeah, the famous Henry Hill of "Goodfellas" fame served a while in the military, actually at Fort Bragg, NC. My Father spent some time there when he was in the Army. Hill describes in "Wiseguy" how he made money by selling the extra 50-200 meals he was told to throw away. ) He said that for every 100 men they buy for 150, and for days men will be gone (reserves, etc) they buy ANYWAY. That's a EPURB box. It holds a emergency locator beacon. Sends GPS location if it gets wet or turned on. Mostly used by sailors today. Hope that helps.
