  • Anyone who thinks this is better than "Red Dragon" is bullshitting themselves. This movie was waaaay too padded in almost every scene, the 80's music is lame, we got little to no insight on why the killer is the way is, Cox's Lecter is forgetabble, and the ending was changed to the typical "Hero kills villain and lives happily ever after with his wife" hollywood ending. LAME. It's only benefits are William Peterson and Tom Noonan in their roles.

  • I think William Peterson did a much better job portraying Graham than Ed Norton did. Peterson captured the quite intensity of Graham, as well as his perpetual torment at his ability to so thoroughly understand someone like Lechter or Dolarhyde.

  • Thanks for providing an ending with the soundtrack. Much appreciated! :-)

  • the editing is atrocious in this scene, but it's still awesome.

  • awesome.....it's the orginal...........makes "Silence of the Lambs" look like an episode of Sesame Street.......

  • awesome.....it's the orginal...........makes "Silence of the Lambs" look like an episode of Sesame Street.....

  • Why is it that every movie that has a song the song is sped up a bit?

  • If I ever have to jump through a window, I want to do it just like that!!!

  • Dollarhyde be a bad mo fo!!!! Graham all bad ass through window as music kicks and gets embarrassed by the big fella!!

  • This movie was made with a small budget, with unknowns (in Hollywood), by a director with only 4 films to his credit. This movie is genius! So what, if it is dated by the music??? Tell me Frankenstein, or "M" isn't dated!!! This is a tremendous film that gets blasted because a younger audience has no patience for older films.

  • @kyokogodai When i saw Red Dragon back in 2002 i never knew it was a remake!! later i saw this version and thought it was way better! in Red Dragon they changed the ending!! i hate how Hollywood is making all the remakes of movies!! am a huge fan of Michael Mann's movies!!

  • @ny5280 Believe it, or not, Red Dragon keeps the ending from the book. Manhunter changed that ending. However, for the better, as I see it.

  • @ny5280 Yeah the only differece between the Red Dragon movie ending and the book is Will ends up severly disfigured. I believe Dollarhyde stabs a knife in his face, and also in the book it says that after that Will realizes that he himself is capable of murder. That was the thing I liked about Manhunter, while it differed a lot from the book it kept in tact the psycological toll that being able to think like a killer has on Will. That aspect is missed a lot more in the Red Dragon movie.

  • When he's lying dead \, he is meant to resemble The Red Dragon.

  • That Dolarhyde behaved himself like Otello:"Did you pray tonight, Desdemona?"

  • guys the camera stops are on purpose... something that soderbourgh ganked from this Michael Mann film... imo... this film is a masterpiece.

  • "In-A-Gada-Vida"...by Iron Butterfly.... is the exact same guitar riff from the Band 'Cream's'..."Sunshine of your Love.." Who the fuk are this band.? and why are movies sceens being deleted because of their derived music,... as I asume was the case with a channel showing all this film, which I viewed earlier. I like the music, I just dont understand why it has a copyright issue.

  • I was watching the film on another channel, and this end sceen...the sound was deleted.!!

So many thanks for uploading this...so I could see again some of the ending. A greatly underated/unkown film for many. It makes the "Silence of the Lambs" - Trilogy, seem lame by comparison.

  • I notice the cameras blink a lot in this part, must have had to re-take a good deal; also, what made him miss at 5:43 something must have thrown him off

  • This movie is a classic! Much better than Silence of the Lambs, in my opinion.

  • I was watching this by 80sman35 or something like that and the last one got the sound removed so I had to miss 7 minutes

  • Manhunter was made a few years before Mann really hit his stride... this movie seems like a made for TV movie but you can see the genius at work. But honestly this final battle is poorly edited and seems so rushed

  • There are many great moments in this flick, but on the whole it's too clincal for me to be truly enjoyable.

  • HA! Will jumped through that window like he thought he was the fucking FLY!

And screwed that whole operation up! Got himself cut up real good(although not a scratch from the window that he leaped through)and got several cops killed.Bet they dont ask for his help again.

  • @AL13NM,

I know. What's funnier, is that.. it was completely unnecessary, but still hilarious.

  • Man.... Noonan rules in this. Ty for uploading this, it's my favorite scene from the flick. x

  • @Marilyn1966 Damn right. Noonan played the most sympathetic crazy. We wanted him to die but felt the pain as well. Sometimes I understand it very clearly.

  • 4:09 onwards: fucking epic!

  • First time I watched that movie, I wasn't aware that was the first chapter based of the Lecter's saga. I discovered watching it. That movie was like a trip, I've been in a strange mood as a spectator. Michael Mann is a talented genius in contemporary cinema. That movie stayed in my mind for few days, like an experience. Love remember it with a little pieces like this.

  • Brilliant movie! It's a bloody shame that it's so underrated. Michael Mann really pulled of this one. This movie reminds me of Miami Vice's episode "Shadow in the dark". Mind-blowing scene.

  • Brilliant stuff. The movie is too underrated! Michael Mann really pulled of this one, like Miami Vice!

  • I think this is so superior to the camp 'Silence of the Lambs'-and Cox is scarier than Hopkins-by not trying to be scary. The sleeping tiger scene is genius. Also love that hovering electronic soundtrack.

''Mr Dollarhyde-what are you doing here?!" ''Frances is gone-Frances is gone-FOREVER''! Great.

  • @MALCBAGGIE,

Yeah, Silence is a much better movie, but this was a very entertaining and fun movie to watch. Hopkins kills Cox in the role of Lecter, but Cox was still great.

  • why does n a gadda da vida sound kinda weird it sounds like more clear

  • why does n a gadda da vida sound kinda weird

  • Though I consider Red Dragon to be the scariest, there's just something about this baby, Manhunter. I mean, it captures the feel of the 80s so perfectly.

  • Tom Noonan is good actor and underrated, but I'm sure he's cool with that; I was happy to seen him in CSI episode; of course, he played the main villian. lol Awesome!

  • Can´t believe Manhunter only made half the budget!!!!

  • @MegaScatcat,

But The Twilight series makes over 100 mill. What does this say about our generation, Mega? We are fucking retards.

  • Tom Noonan has always been an underrated actor. What a shame....

  • Manhunter have better and richer story than Lambs but Lambs is more unique. Both films are great...

  • great ending!

  • What was with the weird editing during the shootout at the end?

  • what if the glass didn't break?

  • @deadlyjoker5 Then dear Will Graham would look awfully stupid as he squeaked painfully down the window.

  • its genius how in a gada da vida drowns out a lot of the background noise, save for the really dramatic sounds: the smashing of the mirror, the dragging of her across the poster, the window shattering, the cocking of the shotgun, etc

  • How rude of Will to smash through the window uninvited, why he couldn't he have just tapped politely at the door?

  • 5:05 Yeah, that's how you hold a shotgun...

  • Kinda strange how certain scenes from both movies are practically identical and seem almost line for line the same script, I know tht's prob mostly due to them being based on the same novel but it's like seeing 2 different versions of it, gotta say though, really like this different ending, Dollarhyde sure has some kick-ass taste in music.

  • I'm officially adding "Jumping Through A Window While Playing Inna Gadda Vidda In The Background" to my bucket list.

  • @JohnRambo lol me too

  • I liked the ending to "Manhunter" better than "Red Dragon" (book or movie). "Manhunter" made Will Graham the hero; the book didn't and it had a seriously depressing ending. And I couldn't stand Edward Norton as Graham in 'RD.' Ruined the whole movie for me. Oh, and I liked Brian Cox as the original Hannibal Lector in "Manhunter"...less Hollywood.

  • @WhiteButterflied I agree with you 100%

  • @WhiteButterflied i think a lot of people agree with what you say

  • It's a brilliant film

  • 4:20 .....Epic.

  • What serial killer from Missouri wears $300 shirts.

  • @faffaflunkie what serial killer wears shirts that ugly?

  • @elilichtenberg I don't know, suits him though don't u think :~) lol

  • @faffaflunkie Well, don't forget, he was a supervisor for a major photo developing complex, he was probably on a very lucrative salary!

  • He is kind of sexy I think :P Serious*

  • Tom Noonan portrayed Dolarhyde well-capturing the shyness, self consciousness, and the intensity of the character. But he just did not have the look for the part, the muscularity or the obvious deformity-here it just looks like he cut his upper lip. The scars from surgery should be obvious. And William Peterson was perfect as Graham-captured that tormented self loathing but determination and introspection perfectly.

  • One of, if not the best, films of all time. The remake is a travesty, Accept no imitations. This is the original and best. When I read the book "Red Dragon" I actually imagined the Tooth Fairy to look exactly like he looks in "Manhunter".

  • Gil Grissom just got his ass fucked up by "The Ripper" from Last Action Hero

  • Mr. Dollarhyde would have made an excellent Terminator

    "Hasta la Gada-Da-Vida, baby!"

  • @BuzbyWuzby Strange you should say that...I was just wondering how Arnie would have been as Dolarhyde!

  • @BuzbyWuzby My thoughts exactly. Eat your heart out Arnie.

  • william petterson is the man, and he should always have that beard

  • Noonan deserved an oscar for this role period, point, blank. He is a genius and did this role the right way he never dehumanized a serial killer which is fucking hard to do. God bless him.

  • By far the best Hannibal movie ever and also the best ending.......Two chicago favs playing the leads and a song the singer was to drunk to pronounce "In the garden of Eden" became this.......I am not one to watch movies over again.....but this segment I can watch forever.....props to the creator of this upload and Michael Mann. The Tooth Fairy was never more creeepy.

  • Bloody Good show ol boy. The Tooth Fairy is fucking awesome.

  • epic :)

  • 1986 Tom Noonan is "The Tooth Fairy"

2002 Ralph Fiennes is "The Tooth Fairy"

2010 The Rock is "The Tooth Fairy"

  • @PaytonWestlake Now that's scary!

  • @DocLeggz The scariest thing is that it was a box office hit.

  • @PaytonWestlake No, the scariest thing is the people that made it a box office hit are reproducing! I mean, a remake of a Kirstie Alley movie starring The Rock, and people plunked down $8 a copy (minimum) to see it.....

  • this movie is badass

  • Micheal Mann can go down as a legend because of this film and Heat.

  • Tooth Fairy pwned with the shottie, but he shoulda switched to the pistol. He sucks at Halo.

  • Gil Grissom is gonna fuck up someone's day, now that's an action star, Sly, Arnold, Seagal, take notes, Woooooooooooooo!!!!!

  • is the whole point of this movie graham is also a bit serial killer thus he can can sympathise with them and likes to kill them

  • classik film

  • The movie has an odd habit of mixing soundscape rock and serial killers. Fucking weird.

  • When I went to read 'Red Dragon' I nearly cried when I found out it was fiction. It was like telling a kid no Santa Claus.

  • awesome....this is a masterpiece

  • The ACLU is not going to like this ending

  • so what

  • @steve41557 Hey, I'm a member of the ACLU and I loved the ending.

  • @steve41557

The ACLU should fuck themselves with a cacti.

  • @darklipstikgrrl You got it! The ACLU will tell people how to smoke dope and not get caught by police but they won`t defend someone`s Second Amendment right. Liberal commies the lot of them.

  • @ion3 What are you talking about? How does the ACLU's neutral stance on gun control make it a communist organization? What does this have to do with Manhunter?

  • Even though Red Dragon did have a good climax and I wasn't spoiled by the trailer, this ending topped it.

  • In my humble opinion this is by far the best of the Lecter franchise. Ok, this film has a v. eighties feel, and maybe there's holes in the script...but...it's a damn good film unlike most of the others that followed that were laboured, formula efforts...

  • Every well-equipped kitchen should have shotgun cupboard.

  • red dragon sucks

  • @nickjohnson55 Well it does state that the film is BASED on a novel by Thomas Harris, so it isnt meant to follow the novel ad verbatim. Its a magnificent film by the way; Red Dragon(the remake) is rubbish in comparison.

  • this IS will graham opposed to ed nortons whiny portrayal that reminded me of micheal j. fox in 'family ties'.

  • I kind of wish that Harris would follow up the series with a continuation of Graham's story. He's such a tragic hero in the books and Will Petersen did a much better job at bringing out that haunted and lost quality than Norton did.

  • im reading the book and is this even part of the book

  • surely a 12 guage shotgun to the face like that would blow your head apart, no?

  • depends on the rounds he is using.

  • well i doubt the swat team guys goin in to take out a mass murdering seriel killer are gona be stcking anything less than buckshot and swat teams use 12 guage's , so a 12 guage buckshot to the head would destroy the skull and everything in it

  • point taken.

  • I would have preferred the ending from the book, where Dolarhyde burns the house and then attacks Grahm and his family.

  • like the end of the new one, right

  • Similar to that but the book's ending is slightly different. It's also more brutal; Will gets stabbed in the face and is disfigured.

  • A lot of people are making references to "Graham's Theme" and the way the song starts as he comes through the window. This is wrong. The song has been going on through this entire clip. It is all Iron Butterfly. As Graham is walking through the woods that is just an interlude in the song. The song starts when Dollarhyde puts the 8 track in shortly before this clip commences.

  • ftw,

  • I've always wanted to run and jump through a window like that.

  • ok but make sure its an open one

  • @bmotx Me too. Especially with In-a-Gadda-da-Vida playing.

  • @bmotx That's gotta hurt!

  • @bmotx

Yea I have, a few times. End up drinking the stress away.

Do it again? In a heartbeat.

  • @bmotx I did once when I was a kid. I was running back in the house and tripped on the step. Went straight through the closed glass door like Arnie in an 80s blockbuster. Got away with only a gash on my arm and some serious street cred at school!!

  • Luv the movie the song the countdown I first saw this movie in GREAT

  • Tom Noonan Should get better credit for his role in this

  • @E1dabest agreed. He was astounding, and scary as hell. The remake was pointless and not even a shadow of this amazing film.

  • @integral still, willame peterson didnt really act out/ as filling as/ tom noonan who clearly deservered at least some award for his role

  • @E1dabest Isn't that the ripper from Last Action Hero where his agent witnesses him whipping a "hibachi" out from under his raincoat? Did Jack Nicholson come dressed as the Joker to the Batman premier? I don't think so!!

  • @E1dabest i'm sure he's content. most people don't even know this movie exists or that there's even a prequel to silence of the lambs. the people that made this film are aware that it is a masterpiece - there is so much symbolism.

  • 6:39 Dollahyde gets his wings and becomes the Red Dragon.

  • 1.silence of the lambs

    2.manhunter

    3.hannibal

    4.red dragon

    5. hannibal rising

  • I dont understand why people say this is really true to the book. This ending is nothing like the book. Plus one reason the book was great was that it was based in realism while this scene is over the top and silly

  • Tom Noonan is a f*cking animal in this!

  • that guy is a beast !!!!! gil got man-handled

  • What a masterpiece! Hopkins brought Hannibal to the world stage but I saw Manhunter before all that hype and was blown away. The blind woman and the sedated tiger is an amazing piece of cinematography. How dare they release 'The Red Dragon' just to fuel the franchise. Perhaps more loyal to Harris's book but once is enough to watch it. Norton is a fine actor but came across as weak and Fiennes does not even come close to Noonan's menacing performance. Also, an awesome soundtrack to Manhunter.

  • yeah just from watching Red Dragon clips I feel like Noonan did better as the villain, he is just more menacing, I mean he is 6 foot 6 and just does a scarier performance.

  • I agree. Edward Norton looked too young and innocent to play Graham. Graham is a character defined by the enormous weight he carries. He has an awareness of human evil that is useful yet agonizing to the point that it nearly destroyed his sanity. William Peterson is capable of delivering the gravity necessary for the role. Like the tooth fairy described him...... very "purposeful looking". Norton seemed out of his league as did Fiennes. Let's not even mention Harvey Keitel as Crawford. Yeesh!

  • @Titanboru Anthony Hopkins is easily the best Hannibal, but to be honest he's one of my favorite actors of all time so I suppose I'm a bit biast lol

  • @MrMcConnon I agree with you thoroughly. Hopkins delivers an astounding performance and is much better than Cox (a fine actor also). Though each actor approached the character differently, Hopkins will always be Hannibal. 'Silence of the Lambs' is a superb movie though I was not too keen on it's sequels.

Yet 'Manhunter' is the original classic that easily surpasses 'The Red Dragon'. Peterson and Noonan with the stylish vision of Mann makes the movie complete.

  • What are the holes in the script of manhunter? it's supposed to be riddled with them.

  • I'm sure there are a few holes in the script as there is in any other, but I thought 'Manhunter' had a very tight screenplay.

Maybe because the film was not loyal to Harris's book that critics jumped onto that notion. The ending is completely different but 'Manhunter' was only based on the book which doesn't confine how Mann wished to portray the story. Only after 'Silence of the Lambs' did most of the audience discover Harris's work and then compare the book 'TheRed Dragon' to 'Manhunter'.

  • @Titanboru Agree with all of that

  • have you read any of the books?

  • what a great piece of cinema, love it how earlier in the film some officer tells graham those rounds are a guarunteed one hit kill when it take 6!!

  • This movie was good to watch. The different concept has made to excite to watch this movie. To See The Movie Go To BigOnlineMovies . c o m

  • I Psychology of this movie is Fantastic in a clinical perspective. I love it.

  • this is much better than the 2002 version!! :D

  • I yell at those cops who kick in his front door every time i watch it! NO cover at all...i'm a cop.... :D

  • Many films from the 80's out do the films of today - the mysterious systematic facets of this film are so reverent in cinema style unparalleled by mostly all films of today. I think Graham's Theme is a resplendent score that doesn't get enough credit as other film scores from that era of film. The film in and of itself is a true Michael Mann classic nonetheless!!!

  • i love the way he jumps through the window gil grissom in the motherfucking house

  • Gil Grissom in the motherfucking house

  • 4:45 to 4:54 love that bit !

  • bad ass

  • Manhunter is definitely the better film, but I thought Red Dragon went into greater detail about Francis, his Jekyll-and-Hyde inner conflict and his relationship with Reba.

Manhunter was more about Graham, whereas Red Dragon was more about Dollarhyde.

  • Just watched this on Starz for the first time. Had no idea what it was or anything. It's the prequel to Silence of the Lambs! I was blown away!

WHAT A MOVIE! WOW! Definitely my favorite of all the Hannibal Lechter movies!! Red Dragon SUCKED, this movie is far superior in every aspect.

    What a film!!!

  • Is it me or does the song In a Gadda da vida sounds a pitch higher??

  • its sped up a shade

  • This movie is awesome. It's a must see. Loved it from start to finish. I was really scared but watched it any way for the Psychology of it all.

  • Michael Mann's "The Keep" is one of my most favorite films from the 80's!!! This film has a lot of cinema appeal too!!! What a totally awesome dope track that "Graham's Theme" is altogether!! Man that dude "The Tooth Fairy" was a big crazed maniac. I give this film the All Out Two Thumbs Up over Silence of the Lambs!! Only the 80's could bring such an esoteric masterpiece to the world of cinema! Very moving and terrifying film that brought me to the edge of my seat!!!

  • This ending is great although Dollarhyde's death scene was kinda pieced together a bit. I loved how obsessed Will was, so much so he jumped through a plate-glass window to attack Francis Dollarhyde and rescue Reba?! Ultimate prequel to CSI! lol!

  • Absolutely brilliant film; have watched countless times but still admire pace, choice of soundtrack titles, sincere quality of acting by all concerned and just sheer gripping horror of the forensic details and theme. A timeless classic and a masterclass movie for any director aspiring to follow in the footsteps of Michael Mann.

  • this is pure epicness! just got this on blu ray and it looks fanfuckingtastic!

  • @joeshmoisacoolguy yes i just bought the hannibal lector collection and it is awesome on blu ray

  • actually i have always found brian cox the be a far superior lecter..maybe cause he was first i dunno..he is just nice and understated and spooky.."would you like to leave me your home phone number?"..frealy

  • I agree. He's got an eerie politeness that shows more in his performance that Anthony Hopkins.

  • This is fucking classic movie scene. When Will Peterson comes crashing through that glass and the POW of the opening of the song, My GOD it stays with you forever!!!

One of Michael Mann's shining moments as a director IMO. And a big shout out to Tom Noonan, his best character next to the Axe Maniac in Last Action Hero.

The only problem with the movie I had was Brian Cox didn't do it for me as Hannibal despite being the first to portray him , Hopkins kind of blew him out of the water.

  • Love how the blood is all under his arms all spread out....sort of like a...red...dragon?!? Tom Noonan played Frankenstein right after this in Monster Squad. How fitting. lol

  • tom noonans a bigger fucker than i thought

  • Definitely an underated film. It's certainly not great, but it's damn good. I watched it long ago and was struck by how much it stays with you.

  • No brautigan, it's amazing! Very scary & you're right.....very underrated!

  • Well, that was NOTHING like the book ending. Good sequence though.

  • That was awesome when he jumped through the window, and then Iron Butterfly started playing!! I'm going to have to buy this movie If I can ever find it, thanks for posting the ending!
