Sealing is an off-season activity for men who fish for crab, shrimp & lobster the rest of the year. Income gained from killing seals is miniscule; nobody is relying on sealing for a living. That is a myth perpetrated by the govt.

Pups are killed for their skin for the fashion industry. Their carcasses are thrown in the water or onto the ice to rot.

The majority of Canadians oppose the commercial seal hunt, yet our tax dollars prop up this unprofitable and obscenely cruel industry.

Seal processing plants said they would not accept pelts because there was no market so a false market was created. Taxpayer-funded Fur Industry of Canada bought skins from seals killed on protected nature reserve Hay Island so a few sealers would have pocket money.Each year Canadian taxpayers pay millions of dollars in aid for a few hundred sealers to kill seals for a few weeks a year for a market that no longer exists .Such preferential treatment when others are losing jobs and homes.
