all you have to do is drive one of these cars once.....just once, and you WILL understand why we love our Mark VIII s, I have 2 of these beauties. The best car Lincoln EVER made! So ahead of there time, they could bring them back with little changes, and they would still be ahead of the rest
ok, I'm going to my nearest Lincoln dealer to purchase one--wait they sold out??!! ..oh, of course it's 2010! FoMoCo sure dished it out in that Mk8 LSC! I wish I had one, but fortunately I had one-on-one experience w/ that InTech 32 Valve V-8 in the Continental '98. You LSC Drivers out there have good reason to be proud owners!
I love the video and I love the car! I feel very honored to have owned one of these fine cars and wish that they would build another! A dream to drive and own
To clear up some of the misinformation in the comments for the Mark VIII: The curb weight is 3,765 pounds (it is NOT a 4,000+ lb. car). At least two comments mention a 7.9 sec 0-60 time which is completely bogus. MW timed the LSC at 7.0 sec, and Consumer Guide tested a '96 model at 6.8 sec 0-60, and in the Consumer Guide test the Mark VIII beats the Lexus SC400 by half a second 0-60.
these ain't bad off the line @ 7.9 but I can pull off an even 8.0 in my 98 continental, Mind you it IS a front wheeler which helps it off the line, and I only carry 260 horses under the hood, *( when I'm not pushin an extra 20-30 with octane booster!!! heheheh )
@Megatone65 I agree I have a 97 LSC and its the BEST car ive ever owned. Least problems, most fun to drive etc.. Mine has 217,000 miles original engine AND transmission not rebuilt yet and runs strong! I still look forward to getting into my Mark VIII at the end of a long days work. Once the puddle lights come on, I get in and the easy entry returns the seat to my position and the steering wheel comes down and towards me I know I am in for a fun and comfortable ride home ! :) GREAT CAR!
The LAST truly great Lincoln! It broke my heart when this model was discontinued...and when I heard there would be no MK IX replacement, well, then I knew the end had come.

OUCH...280 v8...7.9 seconds...sad..very sad...any ricer can achieve those numbers with like 3 grand under the hood lol....nice car..but sad 0-60 times
@coandcaiv ford greatly understated its actual 0-60 times. contemporary road magazines got to 60 in the mid 6 second range. quite good for its day and still no slouch.
This car is beautiful! I cant believe it is a 1997!!!! I want one so bad, but you can hardly find any of them in good condition! (and the only ones you do find are the ugly Forest Green Ones!)
@ValentinoRomaUno I have one of the tri-beige pearl ones that is in mint condition although I have a 1998 Mark VIII...have it supercharged and tuned to push 400 Horse to the tires...thing is a beast when tuned right...and you are right the only ones usually in mint condition are the ugly forest green ones lol
wow... 4 thumbs down. That's too bad, cuz you're absoloutely right. The mark VIII was a beautiful car, but ford made some serious oversights building them, the quality control wasn't nearly as good as it should have been, and the repairs were horribly expensive.
i am pretty sure the last mark 8 was 1997. are you sure you aren't thinking of something else? the 97 is flawless other than the fact the air suspension dies around 90,000 miles.
The refreshed Mark VIII and the last generation Acura Legend are two great examples of cars that still look good today. (although you see less and less of them)
I always like the Lincolns interiors.they always seemed to "out-do" Cadillac on the inside of their cabin.the horrible air-suspension can be replaced with a set of coil springs.the "intech V8" is'nt as powerful as the NORTHSTAR,but it's an easy engine to mod up,considering its big brother the Cobra shares all the hop-up parts with it.
Oh and I should add that the air suspension going out on you is the most COMMON and guaranteed problem you'll have. Air suspension is a horribly unreliable idea...
Well, I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but I own a 97 Mark VIII... and while I enjoy the car and the power and handling it has I have to say that even 10 years later this car is only for the SUPER RICH! It is a wallet draining experience to fix ANY problem this car has... I just blew $800 to have the catalytic converters replaced... You know, those things that should last the life of the car? Yeah. And god help you if the air suspension ever goes out... Way too expensive to maintain...
You do realize that catalyic converters can go after a while, and the whole concept is that they are filled with specific precious (meaning expensive) metals that cost a lot. So $800 for catalyic converters isn't that much, and replacing them on a 10 year old car isn't that unexpected.
Have you seen the new MKS or any other Ford/Lincoln for that matter? BLIS w/ cross traffic alert, active motion seats, radar-based park assist (unlike Lexuses 50% effective camera based one), EcoBoost, Sirius Travel Link, and SYNC are just a few examples of all the tech and luxury options you can get from Ford/Lincoln that the competition can't match, let alone beat.
i have a mark7 with 302 love it to death cant wait to get my hands on a mark8 hope i can find one that a little old lady had and sells it ford was at its prime then now its the mkz mks mk lt no mark no merc cougar no marauder those new cats at ford need to be fired and let me run it i'll bring back the cat....
I love mine, pearl white. dont know what to do if i ever had to get another car, since they dont make the mark vii anymore. last one made was the 98 model :(

The only "ricer" luxury coupe in the Mark VIII's class in 1997 was the Lexus SC400, it was 1 second faster to 60, but not nearly as cool as the Mark.
jsrambler 2 years ago 3
i wouldnt say that .....ive been in the mark and drove it..its nice...but its nothing special really.
coandcaiv 2 years ago
yeah but that car weighs 4000+ lbs. so 7.9 secs isn't bad for that heavy of a car

nope, saying any value your mark viii held is no longer present
coandcaiv 2 years ago
@coandcaiv They severly, underestimated the 0-60 speeds, it's a good 6.7-6.9 then the lsc had atleast 6.5-6.7
