BTW Prop 19 failed bc people that read real close noticed the clause in there that states "if you are caught driving with 5 nanometers of cannabis (or something) in your system you can be taken to jail". Even hardline pot smokers know that the amount as stated can stay in your system for a month after smoking despite your sobriety. So people who do truly feel cannabis should be legal, as I do, voted against it. And I don't blame them.

The line drawn to differentiate legal from illegal substances is an arbitrary line. There is no scientific backing to how that line was drawn. In fact, if one was to evaluate the data from multiple studies regarding harm and severity it will clearly result in the line being completely opposite to what it is today.

pot was made illegal to secure profits for a few rich guys. It was kept illegal during this vote because of the percentage of consumers who have a vested interest in keeping it illegal to profit. The police get to keep seized property, and suppliers get to keep raking in the cash, while using the cops to eliminate their competition. Way to go pinheads

The line drawn to differentiate legal from illegal substances is an arbitrary line. There is no scientific backing to how that line was drawn. In fact, if one was to evaluate the data from multiple studies regarding harm and severity it will clearly result in the line being completely opposite to what it is today.
This arbitrary line was drawn based on fear, racism, ignorance, puritanism, misguided ambition, greed, and now we can add stubbornness.
Repeal Prohibition. It is a freedom issue

@Nothingizm Also legalization of marijuana would alter the concept of "addiction" from a criminal issue into a health issue. So what Holistic, I believe, was trying to say is that it's better to help legitimately ill people in rehab (Crack, Heroin, Meth, Alcohol, etc) with that $40G than to imprison them for the illness.

@Nothingizm That's true a lot of the time. You get the option of getting clean or start a criminal record. Ever tried getting a job with a criminal record? Oh yeah... you also can't get federal grants for college with a drug offense of any kind on your record period.
Also it statistically adds to the drama because opponents of ending the prohibition can point to the numbers and say "Look at all these sick people in rehab and you want to legalize it!?"
Some people are ill and do want help too.
