  • this song and album were amazing. the genre didn't die, unfortunately, it has been repackaged and marketed under the guise of unlistenable noise like fall out boy and yellow card. 90's emo was amazing, now its all hot topic and asymetrical hair cuts. #sad

  • I like Mineral and just keep it at that. If someone wants to create a meaningless hierarchy of bands/artists, that's their business.

...just remember that the people who have the most to say about everything, but the art itself, probably have nothing worthwhile to say sitting in their shit-filled skull.

  • Mineral WAS emo

  • this song is so powerful. I dont understand how can a genre that wrote this song be discontinued or dead or whatever, can someone explain that too me? I've listened too all genres of music, but this song (the non live version) just kinda swims and leaks into your spine and doesent force you to feel its just there when you reach out...

  • @Thefateofskate the media is a killer

  • Whatcha know about T-shirts and jeans. Scenesters go lick some tears.

  • that scream at 1:03 is so strange

  • @JKoscheck That's the sound of a dying hawk. Or a cougar attacking a goat.

  • I was 13 when I got into Mineral. This song still gives me the chills 10 years later.

  • Wow...trip down memory lane. Great tune. Great band. I suppose we didn't know it at the time, but being a teen in the mid-nineties we got to see and experience some the best music ever created, and be part of an amazing "sub-culture"..going to shows, fests...I fear sadly may never be repeated again...but thanks for posting...glad to hear the next generation is appreciating this stuff...!!! :)

  • fuck the scene that killed emo

  • band sucksssss... cant hear the singer at all

  • @GunBlade666 suck dogs dick

  • @GunBlade666 You do know about the logistics of trying to film a live concert with an everyday camcorder in the 90's right? Perhaps you strayed a little too far from your Justin Bieber genre...you're better off sticking with your own type of music.

  • wow this band suck dick and you cant hear him singin at all.... he is basically a bitch

  • @GunBlade666 Do us all a favor and don't leave comments like that, OK? You're only going to get shouted down.

  • @GunBlade666 lets see you try. and i can guarentee they're a way better band than whatever the fuck you listen to :p

  • Those were the days. Mineral forever.

  • what are u goin to listen out there, its past but past perfect.....

  • There are so many great and amazing mid-90's emo bands, but Mineral has to be my favorite band ever.

I was lucky enough to meet Chris Simpson when he was touring as Zookeeper and he is such a humble and sincere man, such a fantastic guy. He and all his work always had and always will have a huge influence on my life.

  • It makes me happy to know that there are a large number of bands who still stay true to emo as it was, and as it still should be.

  • This album changed my life. Best Band ever

  • I am so angry at the world for spoiling a thing so beautiful. Emo.

  • i think those guitars are crying

  • The best band ever!

    Tears

  • this gives me major chills.... lots and lots of memories... great song

  • man i miss those days...will still be listening to this when im fifty. i feel bad for those who never got to see mineral. i remeber him having to use a pair of needle nose plyers to tune the the high e string. and it was about 150 degrees. we were all soaking wet but still one of the best shows. they played with jejune and the get up kids. classic.

  • FuckAmazing band!

  • Comment removed

  • "People like you and me never feel the breeze"

  • ahgg! the most perfect band to EVER exist. i will never get over this band. such beauty and rejoicing music, lyrics, vocals. "i would gladly trade a lifetime of convenience for an honest day or two."

  • Why is it that every video of any classic emo* band has to have some stupid genre dispute in the comments?

    This song rules. Fuck genres.

*or whatever you like to call the music played by bands like Mineral, SDRE, Texas is the Reason, Jawbreaker, Boy's Life

  • word!

  • Mineral's music slits its wrists, successfully.

I used still have their 7" and the Power Of Failing on vinyl that i listen to from time to time. I think I listened to only that record, HUM, and The Get Up Kids - 4 Minute Mile for almost a year.

    Yeah, I was pretty intense.

  • "Mineral's music slits its wrists, successfully."

I'm sorry, but why would you write such pretentious bullshit? What the hell does that even mean?

Just because the music is labeled "emo", you can't just transcend back in time to this band and bring with you the common misconception of what "emo" is about.

It's great that you were actually around to listen to such great bands, but I just don't understand why you've said certain things.

"Yeah, [you] were pretty intense"? What?

  • dude when did indie rock become emo again?

I hate anyone born before 77 and after 88.

It's just indie rock, yes i guess it's sader lyricly then alot of the stuff that was going around but sonicly it's the same as Sebadho or Hum or Failuar and no one would call that emo >.>

Emo as a musical term is fake, like when people didn't understand punk so they called it new wave.

and before someone trys to corect me, i understand it's short for emotional. That doesnt make it a music style lol.

  • There's no debate as to whether or not Mineral were an "emo" band. They were.

I don't like the term much myself, but in it's true sense (when used with bands like this), I don't mind the term that much. It makes it easier to relate with other such bands and communities of fans. I think you have a misunderstanding of what emo actually is. It may not describe the music (I would consider Mineral Post-Hardcore in that sense), but it describes an entire feeling and understanding for the music.

  • Post-Hardcore? It was 1998 lol.

I guess post post post hardcore lol

  • What do you consider post-hardcore?

There are a lot of new bands out there now I would consider to be Post-Hardcore. Do you take it in the literal sense? As in "after Hardcore"? I guess you must also look at what you consider to be Hardcore. But what does it matter if this was 98? I guess I would consider them Post-Hardcore due to the gentle melodicism mixed with hard hitting and almost (but not quite) aggressive breakdowns.

  • Um, post hardcore was a term that people used for bandswell post hardcore lol. Bands like Fugazi or Shutter to Think who once had members of a hardcore band but now started a rock band, hardcore being anything from Black Flag to Bad Brains.

Now I know other bands might be considered post hardcore by Wikipedia but unfortunately that website cant change the definition of post lol.

If Mineral is post anything it would be post-grunge.

  • Yes, that is correct, however, many aspiring artists were so influenced by those post-hardcore bands such as Fugazi, Rites of Spring, Nation of Uylsses etc that they began their own musical escapades in the style of these artists. Since those original bands were considered to be 'post-hardcore', the label was carried over to new bands who maintained similar deviations from hardcore, not just bands who had members that were originally in hardcore bands.

  • wrong i actually knew some of the guys in the band and if you want to know they told me that they played the music for god

  • (cont.)

Lucky for all of us, Grunge too is a fake term that Virgin Records or MTV created so they could sell flannels and converse.

Just like emo, only now Hop Topic sells yall lunchboxes and pink hair dye.

What i'm saying may sound harsh to you but it's the truth. My OG post was just about how the term "emo" isn't even real. No one who played "that style" of music would call themselves that.

  • I'm not really sure what your inferring with the Wikipedia mention, I don't really care what definitions it has of post-hardcore, but I can't imagine why it would need to change the definition of 'post', the meaning is quite clear, right?

Why would your opinion sound harsh to me? Is that an attempt at arrogance?

To be honest none of what you're saying is really relevant. Genres titles are just superficial ways in which we group artists together for simple and collective reference. Get over it.

  • ok again, youre not really understanding what Im saying. It doesnt matter if you want to call it, icecream rock.

The term youre using for the bands you use to superficial group artists together isnt what the bands youre referring to would say their music is. You think if you asked any band from 95-01 considered emo that theyd say, Yes. We were an emo band. Unlikely...

  • I think it is you who is having a hard time understanding; that is what I've been saying, it doesn't matter what you call it, or whether you like the term or not, that's what a majority of people call it, and it does make for easier relation and collection of such artists creating this style of music.

I know many 'emo' artists would deny such a term, as would I. However, I will not deny that it does make factors such as relating and collectivising easier for everyone.

  • (cont.)

Maybe that doesnt matter to you, maybe you think the fanbase and critics are the ones who create the genre you listen to and not the band.

Its a little egotistical but ok, go jam shoegaze or low/fi garage anthems or whatever made up label for music some douche @ Chunklet came up with because he/she couldnt categorize the band correctly.

I'm just trying to hear the song >.>

  • The fans and critics *are* the ones who create genre titles, yes. There is no debate about that.

So I'm not sure if you've done anything here other than displaying a subtle hint of narcissism.

Of course, the actual music is more essential than the label its given. When did I say otherwise?

Talking about egoism, you fairly know how to show it. There really is no argument here, but continue hyping yourself up if you must...

  • lol, clearly you've never been in a band yourself and had a kid come tell you, your in a style of music your not.

that's fine. it's not narcissitic to not want to insult someone by naming what they created for them.

You even disregarded your own argument by saying youd deny such a term if you could too.

Instead you perpetuate it, acting like an eco- villain saying, "Id like to change it, but what can I do as one person? Everyone already broke it."

was indie rock not easy enough for you?

  • I am and have been in a few bands, I haven't had that exact experience of someone coming up and telling me "your band is emo", but to be honest, I wouldn't get that upset over it whether I agreed with him or not. I would know what type of music my band plays and considering most indie/diy styles like this, the people who actually listen to the band would generally get it right. This is what I was saying about collectivising/having a communal feel to the genre.

  • lol so true

  • you are correct sir

  • contd....

Disregard what the mainstream audience holds as "emo". For it is not, in fact the entire "Third wave" scene as it's called, is so far detached from the original scenes in my eyes, that it further displays such artists' purely capitalist and populist intentions.

The "emo" you see in this video, it's not about music videos, hairstyles, clothes, self-harm, populism or love of money. It's just about being a normal, loving and caring person, and the tribulations we face in being as such.

  • Emo is dead? Emo never happened mate, it was all in yr head, i mean listen to that!

  • I was at this show!

  • cunt

  • i listened to this song a lot over the past year when i was depressed. the lyrics helped me.

  • emo is truly dead.

    R.I.P.

    Mineral = Great Band

  • Im so glade someone understands! R.I.P emo.

  • @cliquehop i agree so is screamo

  • @cliquehop no, its around, just the good bands are really underground. it still exists.

  • @rouenea Recommend me some! Closest and nicest thing i've heard is Instrumental rock/postrock-y stuff like Unwed Sailor and maybe Saxon Shore at a push. Modern emo i've heard simple isn't emo usually, well, not the emo i like anyway!

  • @rouenea And btw, you say you know bands that are like this today? I can't find any XD

  • @hundredand go to barnswallow,bandcamp.com emo isnt dead its just hiding in rhode island

  • @cliquehop we can ressurect it, and not to that commerical shit that's been so popular over the last few fucking years...

  • back when "emo" was a legit and respectable genre.. thr glory days are gone

  • @lightthiscity11 Yea, its sad that nowadays people think Emo are fags.

  • @HenryChing93 i hate how people try to say "they're emo" you can't be "emo" its a freaken genre of music. i dont walk around and say "im a qtr death metal and a qtr jazz and etc etc." thats outright stupid.

  • @rouenea Emo became a subculture, a lifestyle and fashion. They're not claiming to be music, it's just a name that was attached to it. so yeah, it is possible.

  • @lightthiscity11

    Truth

  • i hope they have a reunion....

also i hope to one day play that venue.....

  • This is the most emotional song I've ever heard. Even the guitar sounds like it's crying <3

  • your "emoticon" is the greatest reason for giving you a thumbs down, that and your pretentiousness

  • Emos is a club in Austin, TX. Named after some guy, not it's clientele. Actually it was in Houston first, but this is the notable one I guess.

You can see the same "bones" style backdrop in the video for ATDI's One-Armed Scissor. It's true!

  • 90s rock was the shit.

    Now it sucks.

  • its not a club but a festival

  • there's a club called emo's?

    nice

  • Ziggy Stardust called, he wants his guitar back.

  • I was at this show at Emo's back in '98

  • This is the most.amazing.intro.ever.written.

  • So come one with the darkness, come on with the fear. Cause iI've gotta start somewhere and it might as well be here.

    God I loved this band!

  • that guitar squeal is tight

  • wow this sounds good =D i had the album version on my mp3 player but this, this is REAL =D

  • is this emo or post- hardcore?

    anyway, it's good!

  • does it matter?

  • hmm... honestly, not at all. labeling is just for optimizing information, but actually it's all about music

    cheers

  • I was at this show.

  • i may have been as well, was this the show that promise ring opened for? thats the only mineral show i attended at Emos, i was also told it was their last.

p.s., to the poster, ive added you on soulseek and havent ever seen you on, any other way i can get the recording of the show?

  • pls share if you do have it!

yes its their last show here. they should re-group.

  • no i don't have it, but if he has it on slsk then it must be around somewhere, i just havent tried looking.

  • the first distorted guitar part makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up

  • and every freaken timeee!

  • the emotion in the girl in the beginning when she says 'oh man' is exactly why this was the greatest genre ever

  • someone had to say it

  • wow..........i never expected to find a mineral live session on youtube. this is one of my favorite songs ever. its so honest

  • que chimab estos manes son muy cerdos como pueden insultar tanto el emo con marikadas eso si es 100% emocore del puro no mks de las de ahora larga vida a mineral

  • EMOtive. Where did this video go?

    STOP EMO IGNORANCE.

    mmm i heart mineral

  • mineral, fugazi sunny day real estate they said one day (emokids suck) y and is true the emokids are fool, this is real emocore i cry for this bands. congratulaciones mineral longlive emocore

  • emo is so good

  • i feel it on the neck...on my arms and legs...this was real emo...

  • IF emos was a club

and this band is technically emo

then is that actually where the word came from?

(note im not being rude so don't negative this).

Oh and i like it. =)

  • the term was already used in the eighties, even if a real music movement didn't exist...read stgh about the "revolution summer"...

    bye

  • that guitar is awesome

  • they're only kinda like sdre, but mainly vocalwise.

i think they're guitar sound more resembles more the jimmy eat world, christie front drive, sense field, further seems forever(kinda).

and envy, maybe, even though they don't fall into the catergories of japenese, screamo, emo violence or post-rock

  • they were a good band :(

  • Thanks for the info guys....will check them out :)

  • As a massive fan of The Get Up Kids, i stumbled upon Mineral just recently. Amazing..... For Ivadell is just pure genius.

Can anyone reccommend any other similar bands to me please. (maybe via pm just in case i forget to check back here)

    Thx

  • Mineral albums - EndSerenading, The Power of Failing, plus other tracks M.D., February, Sadder Star, Rubber Legs, Crazy (Willie Nelson cover)

Other bands: **The Gloria Record**, Texas is the Reason, Sunny Day Real Estate, Appleseed Cast, Counterfit, **American Football**, Owen, Pop Unknown, Imbroco, Joan of Arc, Cap'n Jazz

  • good fucking tuuuuuune

  • Does anybody have tab for this song?

  • thanks for posting these mineral videos, i thought i would never get to see what these guys were like live. they are a great band, the power of failing is their best.

  • try making out to this song next time with ur chick ten bucks she will fall in love right there its just one of those jams

  • mabe, but i like RHTC better 4 this :D. If u put blood sex sugar magic to play, she will call a girl friend to join :D

  • Wow Mineral Ruled. This was always my favorite song of theirs. I drove to Santa Cruz one night to go sit on the beach for the sunrise. I was listening to this album on headphones. One of my favorite memories of my entire life. At total peace. Beautiful view, good tunes. AAAhhhhhh those were the good old days

  • sweet! xD <3

  • oh shit... i died and was reborn at the same moment... thanks for uploading this!!! i miss that band so damn much.

  • This brings back memories....

  • hot damn, i could hardly hear chris's vocals, but i sang thru the whole video so i don't think it mattered.

if this was from their show with promise ring @ emo's, then i attended this shit, but i cant tell from the video, they played so many damn shows at emos, and it was so long ago, i can't tell.

  • Awesome song! ))) Thanks!

  • 90's Ruleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!!!

  • this full show is up to stream online somewhere. i lost the link after a reformat though =/

  • a classic

  • can you give me other bands like this genre except american football and christie front drive?

  • you should check out sunny day real estate. check out the songs seven and in circles.

  • texas is the reason, penfold, the appleseed cast (mare vitalis), the one up downstairs, the anniversary, the get up kids, the promise ring, planes mistaken for stars

  • penfold is great, one of my favorite bands. you should check out race car riot. it's all instrumental but it's got some intense feeling

  • the one up downstairs = good call my man. american football came out of their ashes... just as good

  • first albums from Penfold, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Chase Theory, Appleseed Cast, and Further Seems Forever

  • haha yeah mineral is very similar to diary by sdre, after that album they changed quite a bit. sdre was STILL amazing, but they had a similar sound to mineral with diary. their later work (especially closer to the rising tide) was completely unparalleled by any other band. completely unique sound. sdre is so damn good! :D

  • yah this song definitly has an "In Circles" feel about it. But wow, I love it.

  • damnit!! ive been doing these droning-low strings chord progressions in my songs for ages now... i thought it was my trademark!! now that been said, i just discovered this band weeks ago and its pretty awesome, even their less powerfull &Serenading. People put it down but those guys went deeper in exploring their slow, dreamy side. If they would have continued it would have given somethin very good now. They would have put back to place some of the so called Emo of today

  • i helped knapsack with the dishes...

  • knapsack sucks

  • awsome!

  • Wow, what a rare glimpse into one of the true pioneers of the most emotional musical movement in history. Thanks so much for posting!!

  • really good song , mineral is fucking unbelievable.

  • yea they are

  • oh dios....esta cancion es buenisima...

mineral es genial...esto si es emo carajo!!...

  • At EMO's and 1998? Then it must be their last show, right?

    Viva mineral!!!

  • amazing !

  • Amazing

  • mineral are my favourites at time

the band that influenced mineral were...

sunny day real estate, Red house painters, drive like jehu, buffelo tom and Shudder to think in my opinon

  • Mineral was such an amazing band. The music is so pure and naked, yet deep and poetic. Truly a rare pearl lost in all this hatred against the emo culture these days.

Thanks for posting this. I never got to see them live.

  • I couldn't have said it better myself! Completely incredible band.

  • roflmao

  • Though ive moved away from emo. Mineral still hold a place in my heart.

They sound like an awesome band to see live.

  • i wish i was around in the real emo days like mineral, Christie front drive, penfold not like the crap we get nowadays

  • yea a pity i was born in '91. i missed Sunny days, husker du =[

  • man the guitar is way out of tune.

  • yes indeed, although it wouldn't be mineral without some form of imperfection

  • i've always wondered what mineral would sound live. thanks a lot for posting this.

  • put the entire show here

  • Nice. Thanks!

  • that guitar is so out of tune

  • well, mineral wasn't so much about musicality as it was about expression, I think.

  • Pizza boys gone rock!
