  • Hammer Bodyguards...! I still have (and wear) mine..! Thanks for the upload. I remember reading the publications of the time detailing how DMC was super-talented at both Flatland and Air - Back then, you were judged on both for your total overall score. Cheers.. ;)

  • DMC was and still is a LEGEND!!!

I still own an a mint 88 Haro Team Master because of him.

  • DMC was and still is a LEGEND!!!

  • DMC has always been one of THE MOST talented riders alive: years ahead in flat and totally pro on vert.

  • that decade he did while he was going fast was awesome !!

  • 1:13 is the sickest thing i have ever seen

  • Man, these bikes were gorgeous. I had an '83 lazerlite back in the day. Anyone know why these new modern bikes have the seats lowered (ugly as hell) and the nice chromed bikes are no more?? what the fuck happened? ..... I guess it was just a different era. lol!!

  • as sketchy as that was, it was unbeatable in 88

  • I was there on the 2nd day of this contest. Didn't get to see him ride flatland, but did get to see him ride vert. I also saw Ron Wilkerson slam so hard he had to relearn all of his tricks.

  • he definately was way ahead of his time there compared to the rest

  • when you consider that no one was doing any of what dennis mcCoy is doing in this video at the time, and the combination of multiple tricks, dennis was really ahead of his time ... he is the first person I saw in a magazine do a tail whip ... true master

  • Hardcore... Lots of energy in this huge run....! I bet he was tired at the end but it looked like he was still wanting to go but his time was up.

  • Great video from U-Tube. Dennis is using the whole course and the ramps. I had bought a couple of videos along time ago of the riders such as Dennis and Ron Wilkerson now legend veterans. They are incredible to watch. Here in this video Dennis is working his ass off. There's is so much going on in all the maneuvers. He is such a good sport when he falls or puts his foot down. His ridding style is a huge inspiration to the sport.

  • I am getting back into flatland looking for a mid-school bike and people keep telling me you need something lightweight, you need to move away from the past, is anyone watching this?? Meh.....

  • @Strat0Blues You gotta start at the start, in my opinion. Most guys now rarely use or have brakes, but in the 80's, brakes were the #1 thing. Squeaking has evolved into pumping, hops into rolls, and, well, BMXing is another world now that hopefully doesn't forget its past... a past that ROCKED!!!

  • @Strat0Blues I would recommend the hoffman strowler. Either that or you will have to build a custom frame. i'd recommend S&M bikes. They can even make you a chrome frame if you want.

  • McCoy was like that guy in school who was AP this and AP that, smart as heck, good at everything, and you kinda didn't like him for it. He was so advanced compared to everyone else in '90...

  • GUYS, 23 yrs ago!!!! how many of you guys are even 23? This guy was an innovator. I mean he wasnt Kevin Jones but he was more consistent at competitions and helped flat to such a high degree.

  • @kevin43324332 +1 on 23 years ago. I don't think any of the kids in my neighborhood can do any of this, they just around a lot and wear skinny jeans.

  • he looks like a ballerina at 0:38

  • Is he riding a Haro Master?

  • @Strat0Blues No that is a Haro Sport. The first Haro Master Dennis ever rode was mine :) My first one was actually made by Torker if you remember that bicycle company!

  • @WaldoUnited DENNIS rode a Master then and in this video. The Sport was too long and had slower steering in the headtube for him. That i read in his own words.

  • @Strat0Blues It's a MASTER!

  • เก่งมากๆเลย

  • Dennis was a good role model, I started riding BMX because I saw Dennis McCoy. I first met Dennis at my first contest at the 1988 2hip King of Vert Contest in Grand Blanc, MI.

  • dmc rules! still to this day! try doing a 5 minute run, with a bell moto 4 helmet on.those guys were heroes.

  • this brings back memories... i wish i could still find my AFA membership card.. not like the tricks of today... but in my older years now i would prefer to re-learn the old tricks.. DECADE,, ROLLADE,, BOOMERANG,, FUNKYCHICKEN,, SQUEEKER,, FLAIL,, FIRE HYDRANT,, WHIPLASH,, SURFER..UNDERTAKER,,CHERRY PICKER...... i remember seeing ,, during comps that the riders would have a list posted on the handlebars of moves they were to perform during their run....

    those were the days

  • @jaejw1 Wow! I didn't know that. Amazing.

  • How is this little kid competing with the adults? Didn't they have a childrens division back then? or maybe not enough riders so they lump all ages together?

  • you all are dumb my dad grew up with him and i live right by were he used to live in the ruskin area in kc m.o. then he built these trails we all used to ride and he bought a house and built a park but now this other guy owns it and doesnt let anyone use it it sucks and he is a legend

  • seems to be more show boating... hes good but i DUNNO...

  • dmc was one of the first Non-California guys and was sooo hardcore at that time. his practice ethic made him awesome and motivated a lot of guys like me to find warm and dry places to ride in the winter so we could keep it up.

  • the arrival of the "new skool"

  • this is absolutely insane & unheard of for 87-88; this was groundbreaking stuff

  • this is pure passion

  • wrong jcmint. if u look at flatland history, yes mccoy was out before kevin jones, but these rolling tricks that dennis is doing is because of the kevin jones and the ply wood hoods. do u remember the 1987 front cover of freestylin magazine when kevin was a doing a no handed fire hydrant. ? kevin and the ply wood hoods are responsible for todays rolling tricks

  • The kat still rips today!!! I get to ride with him every now and then in KC. Definitely still fun to watch.

  • @ckh66 I lived 3 houses down from DMC behind Robandee growing up.I cant believe his parents allowed the shit that happened in his back yard with the liability issues.Always 8-12 people in his back yard riding his halfpipe at any given time even when they werent home.Saw some pretty bad wipeouts happen.

  • damn he was very good at riding flatland. I had heard about it, but I have never seen it before.

  • its amazing that he still rides 20 years later. he was always one of the best but never the best. fun to watch

  • Dennis was 21 in this clip and was and still is bad ass - check out his interview in related vids.

  • Dennis was such a badass flatland rider...definately one of the best during the late 80's to early nineties...he pulled hard, innovative tricks fluidly! Wonder if he still rides anymore today like his counterparts from back then still get together and shred for fun. Good video, despite its 20 year old condition.

  • I was a competitive rider at this time, and over 90% of what McCoy did here was completely new and no one else could dream of pulling off at the time.

He was young, too, probably only 17 years old in this clip, while Fiola was probably 22 or so.

McCoy was riding at another level, even compared to the pros at the time.

  • @BoogieWithStew

You are correct no one was on his level in 88. Kevin Jones was a few years later.

  • hey I live in wichita, kansas and remember going to this at century II, my dad had just opened a bike shop so we set up there

  • I'm amazed everytime I watch this vid!! man he was smooooooooth!

  • 1:33 amazing! what is that called?

  • a hangglider

  • 厲害~不可思議!!

  • haha i'm glad i met this dude in shawnee. :D

  • Really sick run - great video!

  • DMC rules.... I'm ripping off some video of him from 2001 when him and Hoffman did a show in Okla city at a mall. Digging out some tape i took of him in 90 if i can find it.

  • Find it yet?

  • @BermudaEntrepreneur check out a new upload I did of Dennis and Matt in Oklahoma City.

  • that was fucking brilliant for that time, you only have to see what Eddie fiola was doing to see how good this guy was, pissed all over him.

  • Dennis Mccoy. Flatland god in that era.

  • Most flatlanders today prolly can't even do basic moves like these.

  • @ronho2007 MOST FLATLANDERS DON'T HAVE PERSONA'S OR EVEN CARE ABOUT THERE FANS LIKE THESE GUYS DO.

  • @ronho2007 - these are not basic moves at ALL !!!!

  • @ronho2007 These are basic?

  • @burkey426

if you read some of the retarded comments on various 'ol School vids you'd think the young riders of today think they ride superior and better than everybody else. So obviously gay ass moves like these are totally basic to them. Hopefully in 30 years time riders will call Matthias Dandois a fag for doing gay ass tricks

  • i see him at the skatepark all the time

  • hey penplains ive ridden with him a couple of times at the local skate park in kansas city and he still has it!!! he is the most fun guy to ride with!

  • Man...DMC was the shiznit.

  • JUST SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    5 STARS....

  • I used to ride with Dennis back in the day at the covered parking at Penn Valley college on Saturday nights, and to this day I believe he's still the best OVERALL rider to walk mother earth, taking a 1st place in every kind of bmx competition that ever was. His raw street abilities are unreal! Ride forever DMC...

  • i just saw him two days ago at tony hawk boom boom huckjam, tht guy is freakin amazzing, he backward nose manualed down a half pipe!

  • Yep, thats something thats different from then and now. Back then, alot of guys were good on ramps and flat.

  • I saw this one in person too. Dennis always puts on a hell of a show! But Rick Moliterno turned it up a notch for this one. Man, I miss the days when flatlanders were like rock stars.

  • I miss the days when flatlanders used both wheels instead of just one AND when riding was more linear rather than just circular!

  • rolling decade in 1988, yeah DMC!

  • DMC, one of the best overall riders ever!

  • lol look at the seats

  • Sick run, lots of feet down, but overall some really next level riding for the time, scuffing, linking, sick shit for 88. Watch Woody Itsons run to see the difference, I mean Woody was great back in the day, but by 88, well watch and you'll see what I mean.

  • The best things in life are flatland

  • I saw this contest, but only the part on Sunday. The flatland was on Saturday, but I saw McCoy ride vert, and he was pretty awesome.

  • DMC rules to this day who's achieved what he has ? nobody .

  • Amazing !! Ahead of his time for 1988 !! One of the best riders of all time.

  • great video!

even with a slick floor dennis showed his stuff back then. he's the true godfather of freestyle and the best overall rider who helped start it all.

  • Grande! Dennis .. idolo.. no te mueras nunca

  • nice,I remember footage on this in the intro for team whiplash's 89 video,to Ice-t's colors song.dmc rocked it,but the master's rear standers were getting in the way,I liked him so much better in flat, the run with the leathers was in 1987,look it up as afa suiper socco in youtube, its all there!

  • what a moron you are

  • Haha, you're an idiot.

  • the floors where very slippery. tires are made for street not laminated.

  • DMC was amazing back in the late 80's with high speed rolling tricks. Kevin Jones and DMC were kind of challenging each other.

I remember one of his best run at an AFA final, he was still wearing Haro leathers on a Haro, and compete against Molterno, Aparijo, ... This run was in a video (101?). Can someone rememebr it?

  • Great video!! Thank You!

  • McCoy should have stuck with flat instead of turning to vert.

I can't even imagine how good he'd be today.

  • Business wise he made a good financial decision to go into vert and street. Still he'd be bad ass if he did ride more flat.

  • back then, the contest had flat and ramp. if you where pro you pretty much where expected to do both for over all score. dennis use to win ramp and flat plus got over all high's score. lot more demands but less pay.

  • McCoy never won Pro ramp comps in the late 1980's...He would always score high enough to take over-all titles though. (And lots of pro's weren't "expected" to do both - some of them just chose to do so.) For instance, guys like Aparijo and Blyther only did one or the other.

  • amazing stuff. unseen dmc footage.
