to fix it the right way and never have a problem use what is called lock and stitch they are tapered threaded pins you drill into the block at the crack and keep pinning it through the crack. if you dont drill the ends of the cracks it will start going again when it heat cycles
You know what you have to do - I would put it off too if I had a kick-ass 327. You have to get that 327 out of that old pick-up frame that you have and swap it out. That block looks like it's ready to crumble - even with a light load - and it's in an RV truck ? Toss in that 327 - it would make a great video too !
@mrnewagemotor - That sounds like a good idea... This is the only old vehicle I have left to work on other than the Subaru and my van that has fish tanks in it... So I will keep working on it and making YouTube videos... If this economy don't start getting better it might end up being my home...
First thing to do is drain the oil. Leave the sump plug out and a pan under it. Then use a detergent or solvent to wash out the hole. Looks like the crack is over an oil gallery. Simple fix is to drill it out to a tapping drill size , tap and insert a bolt with a copper of fibre washer. You may have to do that for a few holes.
@pooey1911 - Is a dodge oil gallery's like a Chevy? I drained the oil and pulled the pan and valve cover. But cant find the gallery's ... Looks like dodge heads drain to the center... I was worried that oil is going to mix with water.. Still figuring it out. Not going to give up on it.
Very bad crack.. I suggest making a thin alumininum plate to cover as much as possible. JB weld plate over cracked area. Form fit plate as best you can. Tap screw plate down. Dry fit plate before JB welding. Godspeed!
first thing you do with that engine is pull it out second iis tie a rope to it and call it an anchor
