My first job at 16 was at a Mobil Gas station, 1973, this was during the "gas shortage crises' On Sundays we had 55.9 day so everybody would fill up then, on Monday it would be back up to 62.9. Anyway my point is that we would constantly pump all day. Breathing the fume of the gasoline, and the car fumes made me SO realize, this stuff was vile, an environmental travesty, and no good for anyone in the long run. Look up in Google "Underwater Volcano". Look at pictures of them and look at the leak in the Gulf. Looks simular, huh? H2S comes out of volcanos. BP struck an underwater volcano. When they did, 20,000 to 70,000 pounds of pressure per square foot and blew through the blowout preventer.

My first job at 16 was at a Mobil Gas station, 1973, this was during the "gas shortage crises' On Sundays we had 55.9 day so everybody would fill up then, on Monday it would be back up to 62.9. Anyway my point is that we would constantly pump all day. Breathing the fume of the gasoline, and the car fumes made me SO realize, this stuff was vile, an environmental travesty, and no good for anyone in the long run. I wish I had done something in the mean time. Now look. We are all implicated, sad.

The corexit is what they must stop using. this is 4 times more toxic than the oil.The oil can be cleaned withthe bacteria that peekoispet mentions but corexit is highly toxic with no purpose but to hide the animal bodies below the water. @birdlady423 die unless there is human help. Marine mammals exposed to oil spills are affected in similar ways as seabirds. Oil coats the fur of Sea otters and seals reducing its insulation abilities and leading to body temperature fluctuations and hypothermia. Ingestion of the oil causes dehydration and impaired digestions. Because oil floats on top of water, less sunlight penetrates into the water, limiting the photosynthesis of marine plants and phytoplankton. .

Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) and Acid Producing Bacteria are anerobic, while General Aerobic Bacteria (GAB) are aerobic. These bacteria occur naturally and will act to remove oil from an ecosystem, and their biomass will tend to replace other populations in the food chain.

This is yet another example of why we need to abolish the need for oil. I wonder why it is taking so long to come up with other technology?( our friends money and politics). I wondered that as a little girl in the seventies when we had the "oil shortage". It's going to run out, it causes horrible environmental side effects, and it is one of many causes of strife in the Middle East. Harness the sun...or better yet, our horses :)

Stuff is coming out with that oil. It's poison. HYDROGEN SULFIDE, Also known as H2S. It is a colorless, very poisonous, flammable gas. It occurs in volcanic gases, natural gas, and some well waters. Look up in Google "Underwater Volcano". Look at pictures of them and look at the leak in the Gulf. Looks simular, huh? H2S comes out of volcanos. BP struck an underwater volcano. When they did, 20,000 to 70,000 pounds of pressure per square foot and blew through the blowout preventer.
