Those CRTs in the center aren't actually blinking to the astronauts they just appear that way to the video camera, just like a TV or computer screen does when you take home video.
Many astornatus admit being scared to death. I am sure I would be, especially in that first most dangerous 2 minutes when you have almost no abort or esacpe options.
wow, one of the most interesting videos here on YouTube! Thanks for posting!! Great!! Interesting to see that he is able to move his arm even at the beginning of the start. I expected "G" much to high for it.
Where do we find the original or high-rez version? nasa . gov?
I was lucky enough to see this launch from 6 miles away I will never forget it .

15 years ago today- CNN showed this in the corner of the screen silently during the preliminary hearing for O.J. Simpson after he was first arrested.

Some astronaut pilot terminology to understand the video.
"Nav init" at T-10 seconds means Navigation has gone to Inerital for liftoff.
"LVLH" means local vertical, local horizontal, a cockpit direcitonal indicator switch during the roll.
"3 at 67"; "3 at 104" refers to the computers throttling the engines down then throttle back up once they are past a speed of Mach 1.2
PC < 50 means the booster pressures have burned out and dropped off to where they can separate. The computers do that too.

The auido is about 2 seconds behind the synchronized video though. Or the video is 2 seconds ahead of the audio if oyu want to look at it that way.
