@jochen53 it's unlikely to have much effect because the soil gets totally thrashed and the rice plants are replanted when the entire field is submerged in water. it's pretty likely the whole area just turns to mush again come planting time.
@itsumonihon you usually reflood the field and get a second or even a third cut with a mild winter and enough water... then after you drain it, you can either reflood to hunt waterfowl, dry it out and bale the stubble for cows, or you disc it under to enrich the soil.. you usually dont plant the same field year after year.

Very nice, but unfortunatly not applicable for rice field terraces. I also wonder if the soil compression might have a negative effect.
