just bought myself a 2009 porsche 997 turbo cab in white,just thought i would share my joy.by the way i have grafted my bollocks off for 10 years to get it.
Prefer the 997.1 Turbo as it's not only got cleaner lines than the 997.2, but it has the bulletproof Mezger engine. Let's say I wanted to kill myself in an expensive manner, I can take one of these to 9FF, and get 900 relatively reliable HP.
Theirs nothing like a 911 solid ,simple, crazy fast beating down on V8'S ,V10's ect... yet stable as if it were on rails, oh and by the way it carries a small flat v6 ... that my friends is called true engineering .!!! P.S 25 MPG . PORSCHE there truly is no substitute .

I have complete respect for the 911 Turbo. It is a full on supercar that can be used for everyday use. That said, it doesn't have an X-factor (and I hate to use that phrase). I would end up buying an Audi R8 V10 because it has a visible mid-engine from a Lamborghini, it looks better than the Porsche, and feels like a RWD car thanks to its 30/70 rear wheel bias. Jeremy Clarkson described the R8 V10 as "the best car I have ever driven," in his DVD, Duel.

Why do idiots pay 150k for this POS?
Porsche is a second rate company that will never be able to compete with the Italians. The only good looking car they ever made was the Carrera GT, a real thing of beauty. They should've designed it to hit the $220K price point and as a regular production model to compete with the F430 and Gallardo.
Instead, they've always relied on the 997, GT3, and GT2 RS... true pieces of shit compared to the 430, 458 and LP560.
I've heard a lot of things said against Porsche, but never "second-rate." The fact is, Porsche view the supercar differently from the Italians. When they build a supercar, they don't set out to make something that's loud and obnoxious and crazy, and "Oh, by the way, I suppose we should make it fast." When they make a car, the quality comes first. And what you get is a car that's just as fast as a Gallardo, but that you CAN use every day. You could drive an old 911 to school, if you wanted.

it's an internal designation for the generation of 911. Current is 997. It's like with the nissan skyline, there were three different generations, r32, r33, r34
It's like this; the 911 is the all time name of the model, but the 997 is the type of the new generation of the 911 (Porsche 911 Turbo 997 gen/type).... like in the previous generation, the 996 which is the successor of the 993 and so on, eventually they're all still 911's : )

What I really want to know, is if the 991 997 Turbo runs its turbos parallel or sequential and also if they are the same size? Anyone know for a fact? Is the GT2 turbo set up the same as 911 Turbo?
I would have thought that it would run them in parallel, one for each bank of 3 cylinders and the variable geometry turbines would negate the need for them to operate sequentially. Not fact, just what I thought.

Sure do! It's call the lack of sales. I have two friends that canceled orders on the GT-R because of all the horror stories associated with the difficulty of ownership.

It's the function of ECU which increase (temporary) a boost level over the limit.
Overboost cause temporary increase of torque when you press rapidly a throtle.

Not really, you can turn the overboost on for as long as you want if you are actually willing to press the button every 10 seconds.
The reason why it turns off after 10 seconds is because they fear that the driver forgets to do it or intentionally turn it on for the whole drive.
Over boost might damage the engine if used for long periods of time of course.

it's an internal designation for the generation of 911. Current is 997. It's like with the nissan skyline, there were three different generations, r32, r33, r34

It's like this; the 911 is the all time name of the model, but the 997 is the type of the new generation of the 911 (Porsche 911 Turbo 997 gen/type).... like in the previous generation, the 996 which is the successor of the 993 and so on, eventually they're all still 911's : )

Had I actually been serious then yes, him having a porsche would be useless (rather, i was being facetious and imagining what it would be like). And just to clarify, this isn't a gt2............... The GT2 costs about 70k more and has numerous more upgrades

What I really want to know, is if the 991 997 Turbo runs its turbos parallel or sequential and also if they are the same size? Anyone know for a fact? Is the GT2 turbo set up the same as 911 Turbo?

I would have thought that it would run them in parallel, one for each bank of 3 cylinders and the variable geometry turbines would negate the need for them to operate sequentially. Not fact, just what I thought.
