if i were some audiophile headphone's brand owner i would hire him to work to make the best headphones, make reviews and commercial on tv and head-fi.org
There are possible explanations for savants and their musical ability; some are discussed in Fundamentals of Piano Practice, free site. However, I don't understand how they acquire the advanced techniques to play the piano. They must not acquire advanced technique instantly; they surely must practice and gradually improve, though they might improve faster than most students (more motivated?). This should be researched by neurologists and musicians for improving methods for teaching piano, etc.
@mmmccc32 and it goes deeper, as if savants their whole body instead of only brain as a sence mechanism to bypass time needed (for us) to process information. Some of them calculate impossible numbers, and some are instantlu able to tell the number of confectioned toothpicks felt on the floor
I emailed Adam and he was kind enough to take the time to answer my question which was how Derek developed this ability and he said that it was all hard work in light of the 10,000 hour theory.
It's really not that hard to see when you understand what takes up most of Derek's thought and effort in comparison to most people.
Being that musically talented, on the verge (if not) of being a genius, is hard to find an impairment in this man. Sure he may have disabliities, but many people without them can NOT do this. He is very deifferent and a genius in this way. Awesome human being.
love the look on the woman's face when he just picks up a piece he has never heard without a single exploratory note. Amazing and very moving for me at least.
It is not as simple as this. If this assumption was a fact, then any, most, or even half of all blind individuals would have been an eceptonalor great pianist. It holds true to a degree; howeveer, It is rather neural matter.
@mindspeedracer thats really true you know. I know your comment is a year old but it stands true . There are now 3 jealous people. 3 people with unrecognized potential. Derek is inspiring. I'm not autistic but he makes me want to keep trying to learn keyboard!

What I just adore with Derek is you could say to him, can you play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement, like Rachmaninoff would have played it?
And he'll just respond "Yeah!" and 7 minutes later your face has melted.
