  • I predict in addition to 3d cameras with 2 lenses, cameras will eventually involve 3 lenses to shoot an underexposed, regular, and over exposed video all at once and render out a 3d HDR video all in-camera. And it'll be the size of an iphone. Should be awesome! In maybe 10 years or so?

  • @joshlee1090 im not sure... i think whats likley to happen is the idea will keep being explored until a HDR hollywood film comes out then everyone will rave about it... then when everyone, and i mean EVERYONE knows about HDR (but doesnt understand it!) commerical interest will grow instead of specialised interest like photographers only - then we'll see a one off EXTREMLY expensive HDR camera, slowly picking up with cheaper ones as demand grows... thats my thinking anyways...!

  • thats a datura plant in the beginning

  • @cholasimmons Hello. I'm not shooting video. I'm shooting bracketed timelapse and compiling 32bit HDR frames. If you were really clever you'd say "we technically can't see HDR on the internets fool!!"

  • @cholasimmons just get two canon 5ds mark 2s sorry no hvx dunno where i got that and i know hwat hdr is. its possible

  • Hey Milapse,

I have been getting into timelaps and am hugely grateful for some of the advice you have provided in your videos. I did have a question. I want to start messing with HDR and dont yet own photomatix.

What I wanted to know is what is to be gained with the integration of photoshop and can one just grade after photomatix is done batching or does it need to be done with photoshop as part of the batch? I already own Apple color and would like to use that instead.

  • Brilliant!

  • This is cool =)

  • great shot!

like milapse says, HDR is not a look and there are no rules, if it was'nt HDR then I'm sure the trees would be dark silhouettes.

Time-Lapse and HDR is Art and with Art there are no rules :-)

  • Thanks! and thanks for the vote of confidence that one must choose their 'direction' of the HDR processing... there are many many possible outcomes! ;-)

  • Nice but it doesn't look like HDR.

  • hdr is not a 'look'... tone-mapping to 8-bit generates the 'look' - I tend to gravitate towards a 'natural-looking' tone-map with contrast rather than a 'beat you over the head' flat color mash that is commonly 'associated' with the "hdr look".

  • Good HDR should show details in all areas, rather than having a black foreground. Perhaps you used to low an EV range.

  • There is detail in the foreground... It's just clipped a bit during the tone-map process to keep it DARKER so that it doesn't appear flat like a cartoon. Are you suggesting that there are 'rules & regulations' to tone-mapping? One setting is good another setting is bad. One algorithm & one setting is the only correct path?

  • It looks very good but I feel the foreground is too dark. A matter of taste of course.

Did you do the time lapse manually ?

  • Amazing...

  • nice job

  • your svideos always amaze me :D

  • great time lapse!

  • This is really cool. You should re-upload it in full resolution, now that YouTube offers HD viewing.

  • strange object at 00:22 bottom right corner, it flys down then one second later flys back up?

  • It's called an airplain?...

  • it flys down then fly back up at 00:24, how come its the only "airplane in the video?

  • no plane

  • airplane*

  • Is it just me, or did the sun not set? It appears the video just fades to black before the sun sets. Look how bright blue the sky is while it's fading to black. Other than that, great HDR time lapse.

  • exelent.. did u use a h3???

  • WOW this is one of the prettiest sunset timelapse. The colours are beautiful and it's so clear. =) thanks for sharingg

  • 'captured one right as the sun was setting in HDR' Boy, that would be great, eh? if we would adjust the tone mapping in real life :)

  • Very nice work :D

  • Great and OMG @ 00:50!!!

  • That has got to be one of the most stunning pieces of work i have seen yet. the colors are amazing. Great Work.

  • Only the infinite ways of describing this would stand up to a comment. no words in my vocabulary comes close.

  • excellent footage ! beautifull very clear!

  • Spectacular Work!!! Good to know that this can be done with Canon. I am wondering if I can do this with actual video.....for things of much shorter duration.

    underworldimage

  • Or u can just capture for example every Nth (5th) frame with your photo camera, set exposures before that and use some software to generate hdrs, and import them as sequence to some editing software. Great idea :D

  • Great work! U can actually do a hdr-like effect in some adobe edition program using layer blending modes like multiply, overlay or similar. U can experiment :D Great work. 5

  • This is quite spectacular. Makes my first humble foray into time lapse look a bit weak!

  • This is beautiful. What kind of camera are you using? I am very confused as to how you are doing this. I understand how to take a standard HDR picture but this video is like...whoa!

  • perfect

  • Indeed, absolutely wonderful :)

  • I never thought I'd need another DSLR. I thought the Nikon D50 would last me a lifetime. I've been proven wrong. I want the Interval Timer!

  • Awesome!

  • Very cool!

  • Awesome imagery! curious as to what you used to accomplish the slow pan, and if you used CS2 or another program to combine your brackets into one HDR image.

  • Excellent experiment, kudos

  • Its really, really cool. How do you solve a problem with the shaking tree?

  • tell mother nature to hold the wind? You'll notice when the little front moves past there was a little breeze but it was quite still other than that. Some things can't be predicted or controlled. It's the timelapse 'roll of the dice' ;-)

  • Very nice!!! How many stops?

  • I've been sticking with 3 (+1,0,-1). If I experiment with a longer interval maybe I'll step it up(down) to 5...

  • Some do some don't and need an external unit... There are programs that do it via a usb connection as well (gbtimelapse for canon's comes to mind) When I get the chance I'll do a little equipment overview. This one is using a D200 with the interval timer built in.

  • So do you just leave your camera out all day for someone to take? :-) Where do you live?

  • This was from my garage roof! hahaha! For the most part I'll just keep it close or just hang out and read a book.

  • That is brilliant! It makes me want to do some more timelapse! It's cool how you managed to get the clouds rolling with the trees completely still for the 1st half of the video!

Great colour, fantastic view and excellent music!

  • lovely...

  • As usual, very nice.

  • Do you have videos with the lightning and dark clouds?

  • have not had the opportunity to capture something like that... it's tough if you don't have big open plains around - I live in a valley town! ;-)

  • Nice Colour
