man i really one to play the koto but i cant don't have the money and i play the flute sad i want to change but i cant :(. ( when i was really little i wanted to play the koto but back then i didn't know what it was called so when i see one i would go up to my mom and say mommy i want to play that .But then in band i had to choses a instrument flute was the only good one there and i was really dumb to buy it :( now my mom said i can't change instrument.
Really good demonstration of how the left hand manipulates the pitch for each string. Honestly I didn't know it did that. Such a freaking beautiful instrument.
Rokudan is literally 6 parts--hence the name. Regarding the speed of the piece, this is not a "professional" speed, although it is definitively an excellent except. Rather, this is the actual speed of the **4th** part of Rokudan, however it's less famous than the first, which is much more prevalently heard. Rokudan's first three parts are played quite slowly compared to the 4th, 5th and half of the 6th--where it returns to original speed. Which is slow.
she is good. im learning koto and im a canadian. its a really nice instrument. of course when i buy my koto and take it back to canada with me i wonder where ill get it stringed.
The Rokudan is a traditional movement for the koto and the Chinese guzheng is the ancestor of the koto, somewhat like the relationship between a clavichord and a piano.

this is an impressive tempo for the "real instrument" , but i can make great beats with the iPod's iKoto 2, plus I can play anywhere since it is on my iPod Touch (Rokudan comes preloaded too)
Really, I've listened to this piece many times, but this speed is so perfect for this song. All the other videos are played quite slow compared to this one. :)

Nice!
I love ANY instrument like this....in which you can literally hit random notes, and people will think it's great since it's an unknown instrument to them.
So is there any problem with that ? You receive the board and the strings, and then you wait calmly for the bridges... And when you get everything, you assemble the stuffs and then you can start to play. I think this is the way. For my own, I would do like this... But please ask the other readers if they have a better solution.
In Guzheng they typically do use tape to hold the nail or picks. In Koto the picks or Tsume are held on with bands or Wa which are often made of lacquered paper. Often the fingers are licked to allow the Wa/Tsume to be forced on to the fingers. The Tsume were traditional made of ivory or bone, but now plastic is often used.

Bendy fingers like that are actually quite common in Japan. I've even seen some men with similar fingers. But... yeah I gotta agree with you. Lol.

I've heard it being called 6 variations - maybe that's more accurate?

what are on the tips of your fingers?
mazrocon 3 years ago
i think they are plectrums.
Fellcaster 3 years ago 4
They are individual finger picks.
darthsion71 3 years ago 2
cool :)
mazrocon 3 years ago 3
and they are probably not practical for faster playing
sifufenix 3 years ago 3
well you're suppost to use the picks... that's how alot of the koto sound comes from.
mazrocon 3 years ago 3
Those are synthetic nails used to play Zithers like the Guzheng. They use some sort of tape to tape the ''nail'' to the tip of the finger.
ViolinIdiot 3 years ago 3
In Guzheng they typically do use tape to hold the nail or picks. In Koto the picks or Tsume are held on with bands or Wa which are often made of lacquered paper. Often the fingers are licked to allow the Wa/Tsume to be forced on to the fingers. The Tsume were traditional made of ivory or bone, but now plastic is often used.
