These Bluegrass spins on Gordon Lightfoot tunes are brilliant...Tony Rice is pure class and one of the finest musical talents i have ever seen...thanks for sharing this great clip.
Tony Rice playing a great break. The only thing he, and dozens of musicians forget is the melody. They go off playing all over the place but you can't determine what they are playing if they didn't sing the melody.
That's one Sierra Hotel line-up! Great to be able to see this on youtube. Thanks for the video. By the way, the third song is Bela's "Whitewater"---well shredded!
@sturmon8r i must have watched this video 30 times and it is just as superb as the first time. tony rice has to be the best guitar man ever. not chet atkins style but just pure talent.what has happened to country/bluegrass music. nashville is just grunt. same thing and sounds the same.things sure went to hell after the 80;s.
Yup--doesn't get better. I believe that was 93 or 94 and I had the privilege of being right close to front. Have some pictures of the guys around here somewhere.
Completely sick!! These guys are on a very different level. There are great pickers and then up from there is Tony Rice and company. Who's the mandolin player?, that dude is really out of this world!
Another great read of Gord's Gold ( Gordie Lightfoot for those who didn't know)

This will make you stop your car in the middle of the road and get out and dance...well, may depend on how much you've had to drink.

@nicktidyman That is Sam Bush. I'm trying to determine if that is a young Jerry Douglas on the dobro.
