mine only says three words. hi, hi coo, and hi cuckoo. :( i want her to say other words but maybe she is almost there lol. she makes these wierd gurgling sounds and sumx i think she screams my name
That bird seems really young the older they get the less active they become. Sure enough they wont let you sleep till' they are atleast 120 yrs at least cause they wont shut up.Saddest part about those bird chances are its going to out live you and your children.
@jellybellyoneofakind Repetition of words and phrases that you want them to learn with a clear voice. Birds tend to do well with words that lack M, N, sounds since they are harder to imitate without lips. Things like "Good Bird" " I Love you", "Pretty Baby" etc are picked up easily. When you greet your parrot say "Hello (name of bird) What a good bird you are....Who's a good bird? (name of bird) is a good bird!) Emphatic or energetic tones help that's why so many learn to swear....
@jellybellyoneofakind Repetition, repetition, repetition, emphasis, repetition, emphasis, and more emphasis. Birds learn by repeating words/phrases daily and give meaning to it to help understanding. If you want them to say good bird, when they do something you like say "GOOD BIRD, >>>>name of bird>>>>, what a GOOD BIRD, Who's a GOOD BIRD? You are a GOOD BIRD!!!" Birds pick up words that they hear a lot or feel excitment with. That is why if you just say "good bird" with no meaning ..
@jellybellyoneofakind ...or emphasis then they most likely won't learn it. However when you stub your toe on that cage and shout out "&#@*" so quickly and with that much feeling, your feathered baby may just pick it up right then and there.
ohhh wow lol now I remember why I haven't got a cockatoo yet...i seem to have forgotten how LOUD they can be hehe...I fostered one and am semi def in my left ear because of it hahaha hes so cute...wish i had the time for another bird toos are soo awesome
kel- yes they should be I wold rather but they are not.
I think it looks healthy and in a playful mood. They love to randomly vocalize and are inherently joyful birds. So If you want to bitch about it does something about the pet smugglers and let the people that actually care about the animals to continue to take care of the birds that were born in captivity.
Visit a bird shelter and there you will see poor birds that have mental problems. This one is fine.

These birds look frustrated and mentally unstable to me, they should be flying free without their wings clipped.SO SAD. Humans caging or domesticating wild birds for their own amusement are assholes period
I agree with you, however, with that said, these parrots that are hand raised in the states, cannot be release into the wild. A lot of parrot owners rescue them and we do the best we can to provide a safe and great home. It takes a lot of time, work and money to do it properly. I know Elvis should be flying free, but he can't because of how he was raised, so we do the best we can for him.
And from these videos myself and all of youtube are watching, you're doing an excellent job taking care of him. He's really a lovely bird, and very entertaining. I can imagine he brings a lot of joy to the family. :)
It really just goes to show you that the Moluccan is the wildest, noisiest, and most hyperactive of all the Cockatoo breeds. I guarantee you, if you want to own a Cockatoo, the Moluccan will be the LAST breed you'll ever choose. Hardly anyone will care for a Moluccan parrot simply because they are TOO LOUD!
i agree, we had a parrot that we rescued as a baby, and we loved it for many years, but it started screaming like the crows outside all day and night, that we decided we couldn't take it anymore so we gave it up for adoption, which is hard to do because parrots remember every little event that happens to them, and they become unstable easily, i know this will generate some "how could you do that" comments, but i don't give a shit
Just kidding. I know that you knew that your baby was under a lot of stress, as you were, and you knew it was in the bird's best interest to have someone else take him.
Actually.. I've seen a lot of birds who don't have wings clipped and won't fly off when brought outside. I suppose they actually do love their owners. (Some owners are bad.. but there are a lot who let their birds run free for a good part of the day. If taken care of properly, I don't see anything wrong with it)
@123codfan LMAO, I am all for people saving birds, I think if you are going to keep these type of birds, you should provide the best possible environment, ie for simpleton people: a large enclosed avery which allows the bird to fly small distances,or if you have to keep them in the house have alternate entires on doorways such as magnetic screens that split down the middle so the bird can't get out when you leave so their wings can be unclipped. Cont...
@123codfan I just wanted to point out to people that this is not natural behaviour even for a domesticated pet. What is wrong with showing concern? I also did not call anyone an asshole period (LMAO) I meant people who cage animals for amusement are assholes, period, meaning full stop LOL. I was not meaning the owners of this bird are not doing the best they can by him, I am bird carer in Australia so I know what I'm talking about.
I love your cockatoo and I love watching all the crazy things S Elvis does. Your play areas for your cockatoo has given me more ideas for my own Mollucan. Please keep your videos coming, they are the best by far of how and what Mollucans are suppose to look like and act like. They are super!!
He's a wild one! He must be a baby. Ours is quite vocal but 10 years old and has calmed down a bunch. Now if we can just keep him from running out the back door and following you to the car. LOL!
I've been wanting to get a bird like this for several years. I've put it off only because I've been saving up to go back to college. Would a bird like Elvis be a horrible idea during college?
Depends on your living situation, how much time you can spend with him, and you also have to think about the future. Because they can be loud at times, an apartment or condo is not a good idea. They also demand a lot of attention. They are very smart, and with that said, they need a lot of mental stimulation to keep them busy. Lastly, think about your future. They live a long time. Yes they are sweet, smart and cuddly, but high maintenance.
They're also very expensive. You can get one for a lower cost from a rescue (whch I recommend) but health care from a board certified avian vet can be very dear. We've been paying off our bird's vet bill for 2 months now and expect to do it for longer.
This breed of cockatoo is by far the hardest to keep happy in captivity. Just look at other videos of Mollucan cockatoos here on YouTube and you will see how many are plucked or self mutilators. S Elvis here is very luck that his owner understands his needs. Please do lots of reading and talk to other bird owners before you decide on any parrot. Good Luck!
@biggs7735 I you're in an apartment, or dorm...It would be a terrible idea. Cockatoos are extremely loud and have screaming fits and calls that can be heard for over a mile when they get going. It wouldn't be fair you your neighbors, or the bird. If you have a house of your own, go for it, but be aware of what it takes to care for these types of parrots. Go to mytoos.com to learn more on these animals. I'd suggest starting out with a conure or a caique if you're a first time owner.
