  • Really people? Come on, appreciate this movie for what it is, and it's a pretty fantastic interpretation of LOTR, definitely in my top 5 animation. It's a unique blend of art. Yes, it seems silly at some parts, but for the time it was made, it's fantastic.

  • At the end one was wearing an old gas mask

  • monkeys!

  • Watch speech performed by Christopher Lee, not that evil Santa with savage people of Africa! ;D

  • this is so fucking terrible

  • Oh no, Santa has aligned himself with the tusken raiders!! :O

Middle Earth and The New Republic are doomed!!

  • They look like the Sand-people from Star Wars.

  • Ah-rumahn!! *Gandalf*

  • so its the planet of the apes meets Lord of the rings.. I can work with that..

  • Why is the soundtrack all Planet of the Apes-y? Still, it's probably the least of this movie's problems.

  • the only thing this version had a problem with was differentiating between nazgul, orcs, trolls, goblins, balrogs, uruk-hai, monkeys, tusken-raiders, dementors, and ..... you know what, actually.....Ralph-Bakshi should learn how to freakin draw.

  • Rohan's the Uruk-Hai's ancient oppressor? Saruman just created them. They're like a bunch of armored, less-than-adorable babies. With swords. And glowing eyes.

    Ancient oppressor indeed.

  • They should be ashamed for bastardizing this. Whoever chose to use his voice for Saruman is a fucking retard. This isn't the Wizard of Oz.

  • Saruman the red?

  • @ElmoTarouTheLegend Saruman of many colours, as described in the book.

  • the animation is strikingly similar to Gerald Potterton's 1981 Heavy Metal.

  • dont tell me that fat guy next to him is wormtongue ???

  • @pressurecross lol Yes he is.

  • Evil santa clause and those africans look really silly, I stay with Peter Jackson's vision!!

  • once you've heard Christopher Lee and his voice, this doesn't seem right at all

  • WTF thos??? are uruk-hai???

  • The cartoon Saruman is a such a mousy bitch compared to Christopher Lee.

  • What wimpy war music from the tympanis and goat horns...

  • im proud to say i have a copy of this on vhs, itll soon be an antique because it dates so far back now..

  • Those fucking Uruk Hai look scary as fuck.

  • @Tobolococo lol, harsh, but lol

  • What inspiring speech from santa!!!

  • So here we have an army of (literally "over 9000" though I'm seeing but a fraction of that) Arab Monkey Terminators (judging by the eyes) aka Cyberdine Systems model T-w000t. Reprogrammed and utilized by the dark side of Santa Claus who's voice isn't exactly the most impressively pitched.

"There's no fate but what we fuck up."

    Wheres my beer.

  • I'd still take Bakshi's weirdly rotoscoped Uruk-hai over Rankin and bass's uruk-hai.

  • Aruman(yes, I know his name) the Red addressing Tusken Monkeys?

  • drug-fucked santa talking to his down syndrome monkeys. nice....................

  • did anyone else start to think the uruks kind of look like the sand people from star wars? just a thought

  • @KageBunshin9000 Totally thought that. Remember it freaking me out as a kid. Also remember that. Heh.

  • Seriously, who the fuck trusts someone named "Grima Wormtounge"? Grima translates to 'disgust' in Spanish, and his last name is "Wormtounge" for fucks sakes! Might as well have nicknamed himself "Baddy McBackstabber"

  • @southparkster93 Wormtongue wasn't actually part of his name, it was an insult from people who understood he could not be trusted (similar to Grima calling Gandalf 'Gandalf Stormcrow'). Notice that family names are non-existent in Middle Earth outside of the Shire/Bree-land.

  • those are africans

  • are those urukai??? or fuckin tusken raiders????

  • @OACYLU It's low budget, cut it some slack.

  • Why Uruk-hai have a red eyes ?

  • Why is Saruman the White FUCKING RED!?

  • @Curseco I am Saruman of Many Colours! The white cloth may be dyed. The white page may be overwritten; and the white light can be broken.

  • @Curseco Becouse it's Saruman of Many Colours - read the book

  • Why Uruk-hai looks like monkeys ?

  • aragorn looks like jackie chan in this movie...

  • I always found this kind of animation to be really creepy.

  • technically, this movie was made before star wars,so then the sand people and jawas look like Uruk hai, instead of vice-versa.

  • tusken raider army.

  • rinsey rohan

  • Boromir int this version kicks ASS!

  • Go forth my poorly animated minions!

  • Evil santa adresses his monkey army?

  • @DennisTheCaveman Don't forget the (W)Ents, Viking-Vampires and the Mummies!! :D

  • No surprise at all. Lucas based his Star Wars movies in many things from the LOTR books. He just took advantage of the historic moment in cinema technology and made all the illiterate believe that he was 'original' in his storylines.

  • disney's merlin!

  • i thought it was like Saruman adresses the monkey army

  • His voice is waayy too high here. It's Christopher Lee or nothing.

  • thats an ARMY?!

  • I'm scared :(

  • is it me or does saurman have a slight lisp ?

  • 3 questions:

1: When did Santa Claus start commanding demon armies?

2: When did the Sand People get so millitant?

3: Why does Santa Claus have a hobbit? (Seriously, THAT's Grima? Clearly, Weight Watchers doesn't exist in the Bakshi Middle Earth.)

  • @mst3KGf

    i lold

  • Saruman looks like santa claus and the uruk army look like jawas

  • I'm a huge fan of Star Wars, and I can assure you all that the Tusken Raiders (a.k.a. "Sandpeople") look absolutely nothing like the Orcs in this movie. These Orcs actually look just how they're supposed to look: they're about the height of the average human, swarthy, slant-eyed, fanged and flat-nosed, with thick legs and huge hands. So people, before you start bashing, do the freaking research!

  • OUR TIME....IS A HAM!!!!

I like the style here, it reminds me of that movie Wizards.

  • @Nagneto now that youve mentioned, Saruman looks like Blackwolf...

  • Ottomans going to run through the Baltic Easter Orthodox states? Wait! I thought the Rohirrim=Norsemen and Gondor=Mediterranian Europe?! Anyway, eastern indentured servants in rags with wooden shields vs. westerners in 'ye old castle'... close enough I guess.Great historic sattire!

  • @swamplight79 No, Rohirrin= Anglo Saxons.

  • lol Christ... Peter Jackson should have taken notes! They look like fuckin' sand people!

  • Comment removed

  • The sand people will return and in greater numbers

How right you were Obi Wan how right you were

  • Is Grima the guy standing next to Saruman????

  • @Fullmetalminos

    yea lol

and saruman i an asian guy -____-

  • Creaturelover18 i knew that, and atleast my best friend is a hot chick

  • What the FUCK did I just watch? I'm all for the posterity of the animated predecessor, but this is awful. Christopher Lee all the way.

  • lol they look more like sand people than orcs tonight sand people will take tatooine

  • fuck this video

  • ugh stupid horns

  • wow......not to be rude but i like the newer ones more......

  • is that Caligula´s voice (from I Claudius)?????

  • @sacredberserker

Yes, that's the brilliant John Hurt as Aragorn :D

  • Eh, orcs have some culture at least ;)

  • 0:37 BLOW THE NOSE-HORNS!!!

  • Ok, by comparison between this and P.J:s movie, these orcs(or uruk hai if you care) are either very lazy or disrespectful.

(S)aruman, their leader is giving them a speech and they only stand up at the end of it.

There is no sitting down during speech time! At attention!

  • This looks really creepy.

  • people mocking this LOTR version should get slapped tbh, this is a classic and for it's time it was one hell of a good job.

  • Adoras? Thought it was pronounces Edoras? Probally comes from the Same idiot who thought up the name Aruman.

  • Was anywone else thinking "FOR THE HORDE!"

  • Comment removed

  • Hmph.. Christopher Lee could own "Aruman" any day.

  • "Sand People!"

  • @darthpesticide and better...

  • after this I can never watch lord of the rings...

  • Jesus Christ...I didn't know the love children of the Monkeys from Planet of the Apes and The Sand People attacked Helms Deep!!

That God for Peter Jackson and Christopher Lee

  • lol compare this to the modern version X)

  • Hide yo elves, hide yo men hide yo dwarves cuz the orcs are rapeind er'body out here! The Uruk-hay army was the main strikeforce at helm's deep...

  • now i know how jawas were created

  • I hate seeing so much hate for this movie, yes its flawed and not as "stimulating" as Jackson's but I always appreciated Bakshi's rendition on a highly artistic level. I love his orcs and ring wraiths.

  • I hate seeing so much for this movie, yes its flawed and not as "stimulating" as Jackson's but I always appreciated Bakshi's rendition on a highly artistic level. I love his orcs and ring wraiths.

  • jajajajajajaja

  • THe sande people! The sand people!!Run, snow people of Rohon, RUN!

  • I can only recommend to watch the German version of the animated Lord of the Rings. Where the original falls flat, thanks to uninspired voice acting, the German version easily surpasses the Peter Jackson adaptation. Imho, of course, but up to this day I prefer Bakshi's film, that is the German dubbed version of it.

  • Comment removed

  • this was a great adaptation for its time 1978 , the only criticism you could give is that they ran low on budget.

  • Still can't imagine why so many of his parts were cut, Jackson is a fool.

  • @beastlysword Obama?

  • They ruined it!

Is that a comedy or what?

  • there is more of a sense of reality to these than the fucking CGI bullshit that Jackosn shat out.

  • @dontleademsomuch You want CGI bullshit, i reccomend Avatar.

  • disney should have done these. it would have been so much better

  • the uruk´s look´s like Tusken from Star Wars XD

  • Wow, the Orks reminds me of the Hellboy comics, any one else too?

  • Saruman the red and his money army :b

  • Watching that was like birthing a child, and I'm a boy.

  • No They are Jawa's hahah

  • Sand people, Niggers call em what you want.

  • are those monkeys?

  • this saruman later on has the voice of Count Dooku.

  • saurman sounds like a chipmunk who smoked to many ciggarettes

  • wait... that fat guy is worm tounge?

  • i thought Santa lives at the North Pole...guess i was wrong :(

  • @JPR300 fuckin prick

  • anybody how was this animated?? looks like people... ???? saruman doesnt but the people looks like actual people...

  • @alahad The technique is called "rotoscope". The artists take live footage of actors and draw/paint over them to give them a cartoon look.

  • @CiG801 thank you very much... interesting

  • rofl here they are more like niggers than orcs

  • they are going to make a saint war

  • Beware the sand people, they carry big sticks and will beat u to death. beware of the 10,000 tusken raiders

  • lol wtf niggers?

  • @darthpesticide totally agree. Ironically one of Saruman's powers was his voice, he could weave magic with just the sound of his voice. Christopher Lee being a more charismatic version actually made it more believable that his voice was powerful

  • lolz grima is fat :D

  • omg i pissed myself at some off these commets lolin background all u see is little sam and frdo go behind the bins

  • In the book Suaroman wore a white robe not red and when the robe would move it would show multiple colors.

  • Wow, these movies look like crap compared to the Peter Jackson movies.

  • Sand People strike now, they will overrun Mos Eisley in a single night.

    - The time is at hand! Obi Wan's hundreds will face yours tens of thousands! And will all ruin, your ancient oppressor lies vanquished, then shall we fly eastward, and sweep all of Tatooine beneath our feet! We cannot be defeated!

    -------------------------

Few people know that, before joining the Separatists, Count Dooku started off as a leader of a Sand People rebellio against Jawas...

  • @ReasonAndPurpose Haha! That's the first time it's crossed my mind that this character was portrayed an actor who played Count Dooku.

  • @DarkPrimeGS And count Dooku is the same actor who played saruman ;)

  • @ReasonAndPurpose hahaha xD best idea evar haha u are genius

  • @ReasonAndPurpose they look like sand ppl with ape faceds.

  • @tomcatvelociraraptor they look like orcs . why are you acting like a tit on these bakshi lord of rings videos ?

i told you this was a great adaptation for its time , if you don't have anything positive to say , why are you here ? your little shit headed criticisms aren't wanted nor appreciated .

  • @ReasonAndPurpose I couldn't help thinking the exact same thing when I saw this! XD

  • Jesus, it's years since I saw this. I don't remember Grima Wormtongue looking like Ron Jeremy.

  • ahha looks like the sandpeople in starwars ahah :D

  • those are some scary fucking monkeys.

  • are the orks just people lol...

  • thank god for peter jackson lol...lets just leave it at that

  • @SlashTK421 fuck the kiddie movie. BORING, the cartoon is dark and has a better tone.

  • I wonder what would it look like if the Saruman in the live movies was wearing red...

  • The evil monkeys are coming, led by the evil Santa claus! Hide the children!!!

  • I guess a contest with the Wicked Witch of the West was in order to get control of the monkeys?

  • saruman looks like dumbledore

  • @DreamchildToni

You mean DUMBLEDORE looks like Saruman...Sharkey is older :pp

  • I loved those rotoscoping techniques, they were so original, and the effect was incredible!

  • Mah Boi's King

  • @tysonkat1 Eh? There were Uruk-Hai at Helm's Deep in the book, just unlike in the films they wern't the only ones there (other orcs and Dunlendings were there as well).

  • @DarkPrimeGS just like there were easterlings entering FIRST in minas tirith

    no trolls

  • @DarkPrimeGS Yeah, you're right, Aragorn even had a conversation with some of them, when they say they will not be stopped by daybreak (boy, were they wrong!)

  • @tysonkat1 You obviously haven't read the books, and you obviously have no idea how films are supposed to be made.

  • @tysonkat1 Ya, he sure followed the book properly in some parts like the beginning where ''Sauron learned ring-crafting'' and ''the last alliance was losing'', along with Arwen not being in here or Eowyn appearing for 5 seconds and not even talking. Also did I mention how much they massacred Sam's character in this? Along with how they made Legolas cross eyed, Gimli a non-dwarf lumberjack, and Boromir as a viking.

  • @tysonkat1 Urul'Hais WERE in Helmsdeep in the book you idiot

  • santa claus and his evil goblin army will invade!!!!

  • ........why are the uruks monkeys???

  • is it just me or do the uruk hai kind of look like real people who have a kind of animated shade laid over them?

  • A lot of the characters (or rather "non-characters") were rotoscoped and not drawn over.

  • @drarchibaldo

wow... you'd almost think that jackson shot the movie using the rotoscopy procedure.

  • the uruk hai look like evil monkys

  • Saruman looks like santa! and grima looks like a 12 year old fat kid!

  • This is creepy.

  • He is a white(censored)thats why he is the white wizzzzzzzztard

  • haha...planet of the apes...

  • No match for the REAL orcs. Gorillas maybe?
