Great video review of the Chef's Banquet Ark 1 food storage product. In fact, it's the best of the genre I have seen. I saw a couple of your other videos too and all are very well done and a pleasure to watch. I am subscribing. Thanks to you and your wife for doing these informative shows.
I see they now use the standard buckets, I wish they still used the square ones like you show here. But I see Costco sells this 50 bucks cheaper than the manufacturer too.
BUT, that is not an expiration date, it is a best by date, the FDA has very clear laws on this. If it expires, it must have an expiration date, this stuff doesn't 'expire'. Like the people eating WW2 mre's still today, this stuff can be eaten in 30 years, it just will have less taste.
Thanks for sharing this with us, I am ordering a pail or two and wanted to get some first hand experience with this product. BTW you have a beautiful family!!
I wonder if the food would reconstitute 'somewhat' if, after adding the water, you simply set it aside for a while ... heating to a boil to finish. OR bring to a boil as they say then remove from the heat, put container in a pot cozy and let it for 20-30 minutes.
My reason for asking is that each meal seems to require a long cook time, so a fuel 'hog' at a time when fuel might be in short supply.
Just as a reminder, Oxygen absorbers only absorb the oxygen and air is made up of lots of different chemicals. It is the lack of oxygen that helps shelf life, not the lack of air. But great video, I got one and it had a little puncture hole, they replaced the no questions asked and were super easy to work with. Thanks for the recommendation.
ps: thanks for not being too preachy on the subject like nutnfancy. Nothing against the guy, he provides great information on cutlery items and fire arms providing extensive detail on the matter at hand, but he can get preachy. But to each is own.
thank goodness I ran into your vids by accident. I think they are very very helpful and insightful. you have a great presentation and demeanor about how you inform and explain about the subject at hand. I especially like the way that you are well informed on the subject and present it to us simple folk in a clear and positive way. I found this and the water storage vid great and found myself taking notes to this. thanks man, thank you very much. great job.
Thank you for the video. I bought some dehydrated foods from another vendor but haven't opened them to test. So this helps a lot! One suggestion or idea for other preppers. Instead of buying the white flour pasta consider getting whole grain or whole wheat pastas instead. You get much more bang for your buck. Lots of fiber, protein, and vitamin B. Will keep you fuller longer and be more nutritious. Believe me, when you're hungry it will taste wonderful! keep stackin!
cool eating element, thumbs up indeed! "To kind-of speed-up the process a little bit, we've already added this to the next bowl here." That made me feel like I was watching a cooking show. haha. @14:45 Cooking with gas? but the stove top looks electric! Tina got on you for dripping, then she did, whats that about!? lol. Also, you keep calling the little packets "oxygen absorbers" but aren't they actually moisture absorbers?
If it really lasts a month $100 is not very expensive. Zombie Tactics made a 3 day food kit that cost $25 so only 12 days for $100. Thanks for spending the money on trying this food out for us Steve, appreciate it
Great video. It is interesting to finally see one of these buckets taken apart and put into action to see the outcome. You have a great family. It would be awesome if one day you and your family got your own reality show based around the same information you already give out . I love the " your favorite firearm to fight off the hungry zombie hoards". Great stuff =)
You're videos are great; I like your channel a lot. I would suggest having a fuel source to cook your emergency food. No power= no cooking;( Propane stove and enough fuel for at least a few months. How about clean water? Better also have plenty of batteries for the computer and flashlights. Don't forget some type of generator. On a side note, did you ever resolve the Glock 23 issue? I'm curious to know. Anyway, keep up the good videos.
sorry, Does she think the suggestion of adding other main ingredients (spam or other, not spices) take away from her thoughts of the value of the food pal. I am considering buying these to add to my stores, but her opinion will factor in on it. I also know it is early to tell- you had mentioned that you were going to test the rest of it. Thanks, Rick
Steve, you have two beautiful females to keep you company, you are blessed. I wanted to know what your wife thought of it? Does she think it was money well spent ($100 each), or does she think she could have spent the money better on other food stores?
2000cl a day diet does not leave a lot of room for any physical activity. Does she think the amount of food in the container would actually feed one person for a month?
just a tip for next time with the veggie stew.when you add extra things like you did with the elbow pasta.you need to remember that it will suck up alot of the water that was ment for the stew.thats why it came out sticky and a bit dry and not like a stew.add alil water with the pasta to make up for the lose on the other side.
One thing is for sure, if there is a total economic collapse you will not care how much sodium, msg, fat or sugar is in what you're eating. You will be happy just to have something in your belly. I concentrate on storing foods that are calorie dense and last as long as possible.
@Meathead36 there is some truth to what you posted.but i have to ask this, how long have you been without food?more than that how long have you been stuck somewhere eating the same dull stuff over and over again?i ask this because anyone that has had to for any amount of time knows how it makes u feel.when your body does'nt get what it wants ie sodium, sugar and things like that.over time the stuff u eat over and over will make you so sick of it that it will really make u sick lol.
This kind of food is ok, it lasts long and tastes good. But within short time it more than prolly start to mess uo your stomac. To little water will "clog" up your system, and to much water could make the food drain straight trough you. So to live on this dried food over weeks will take its toll :-)
Great video Steve. How would you compare this food to an MRE entrée? I know most of these questions are subjective, I'm just curious. If I'm really hungry I'm not going to be too picky. Thanks for sharing. I wish Emeril could have pulled off that "smellavision" thing. :)
Steve, this was an excellent video, and thanks for doing it! I think my favorite quote would have to be when your wife said to Tina, "Focus, sweeite," followed by the tactical eye roll. Very classic stuff!
In an emergency it looks quite fine. I went away with some good information regarding the mylar bags. Perhaps there are bags of varying thickness for those who may be dehydrating their own foods and preparing bagged meals as opposed to what you found in this bucket. Thanks for the video. Nice you left your wife off the hook for the meal but perhaps you will now cook a gourmet meal for the family. Ha
Good to add to your stores, Freezed dried wasabi peas. Good vid & thanks for the pricing note. Love the differences between you wife's & daughter's tastes. So interesting how current America has allowed us to crave salt. Thank you again!!!
all the salt is in the bottom of the bag. When you get to the last portions of the bag the meals will be salty. It would have been better if they packaged the meals in individual packages so you don't have worry about settling. This also would reduce the chance of a whole bag spoiling by having a hole in a package.
I prefer food in sealed cans, with enamel layer on top and bottom of can which seals the seams between the circular part to body of can. Plus within can a desiccant pack. If stored above freezing and no higher then 77 degrees F, dehydrated food can be stored for 25 years. Pouches under same storage can last 3 to 5 years depending on product. Cans open by tab only last about two years.
So going through the nutrition listing for those it looks like a good multivitamin is a definite requirement. Of course I would recommend having a couple big bottles of a good multivitamin in your food storage. You wouldn't want to get scurvy or something while trying to make it through an extended emergency.
@SafeArmsReview I've never understood this myself. I tend to get one or two dislikes for every video I post ... sometimes in less time after initial posting than it would take to actually view the video, lol. I think there are just a certain % of haters, etc.out there that will find something to be pissed about and go straight to the thumbs-down button no matter what, Steve.
Hey, great videos! I enjoy taking the time to watch them all. :)
I was curious, if it was an emergency situation, and, say, the power was out, how would you prepare the meal? (Portable stovetop, Propane system, or..?) Just want to make sure I've got the right notes, so I can make a good list of things to get, when I can afford them!
My plan is to get this same product, but supplement it by using rice and beans.
