Some problams of the progessive cable not working are due to:

1. Inproper setup with in the wiii

2. The game is not compadible.

Oh if your running on PAL and component doesn't work on your wii your system may be due to having a diffrant PAL system than other people who can play 480p on there version on PAL. A good article is on Wikipedia.

In my experiences with that exact cable I would actually highly discourage buying it. Sure, it's a high quality build, but the Wii does not look good on high resolution computer monitors, it's impossibly blurry and would be best played on a proper television with hardware scalers that do a better job of stretching those graphics.

480p isn't high def,

it's enhanced definition.

480i and 576i are Standard def, 480p and 576p are Enhanced def, and High def is 1080i, 720p and 1080p

The original Gamecube could output in 480p but Nintendo only sold special cables for a short while and then withdrew them from sale. If you have the Gamecube component cable it doesn't work with the Wii.

By the time the Wii came out, a lot more people had a HDTV's compared with when the cube came out and Nintendo bought out the Wii component cables to a bigger audience.

wrong. the wii component cable (and any wii A/V cable) is incompatible with the nintendo gamecube. if you want your gamecube hooked up to component video, find the gamecube component cables from ebay (they were discontinued and are hard to come by now). and few gamecube games were probably ever made for 480p, so you're better off getting a wii with a component cable and hope it plays however many gamecube games in 480p.

The component cables do actually "enhance" gamecube games. I recently bought the component cables and tried Soul Calibur 2, and it made a big difference.

You should consider buying component cables. :)

480p is not high-def. It's ED (enhanced definition). Since you're not getting a higher pixel density, you're just getting it go from interlaced to progressive.

New, it would have been around 30,000. Data grade 3CRT. Used, I got it for free. Would have been about 3g used. Of course, CRT is still the best picture available, and lasts the longest of any of them. It only makes sense.

Ofcourse Cube games will display using a Component cable, why would anyone think otherwise? You'll also find that your Virtual Console games will display 480p if you enable this video mode in the system options.
