wth a higher tire pressure on rough terrain the tire will want to bounce back against the direction of the object it hits. This is why higher tire pressure on rough terrain will actually slow you down.
With a lower pressure the tire deforms around the object with less ''bounce back'' and better traction.
I wish some people would hold off on their comments before speaking out against proven advice.
if your on rough stuff i think lower tire pressure will make you go faster, just like having a bike with suspension makes you go faster on rough stuff. but for sure if your just riding on a road or something, then high tire pressure and no suspension will make you go fastest.
from my experienec and i been riding bikes sence i was l;ike 3 years old and iam 40 years old now, the harder hte tire the faster you can go with more ease and hte softer the more it drags and slows you down as well, the disadvantge of a harder tire is your centre tred wears faster where alower air pressire the tire wares more even, . you dont need a tourwe wrench on a bike unless you dont know how to feel the tightness of the wheel nuts. air guage is realy handy and a must for proper air setup
