  • Incredible! The singer is Lionel Messi.

  • Absolute perfect pop song! maybe the most underrated guitar solo of all time. flawless performance

  • This is a great version of a great pop song - I remember how these guys were mocked by us all back then due to the hype, but 30+ years later it's a great song about underage poon...

  • I LIKE THIS SONG

  • Where was I?

I wasn't even around to see this awesome band.

  • He looks so happy to see his audience :)

  • Sweat , sex, rock'n' roll,- that's what's it all about.. Show the nowadays wannabes how you do it! Lack of substance..

According to Quincy Jones & James Ingram,- Michael Jacksons "Beat it" was inspiried by this song. Thank U for this incredible post,- shows good taste in "real" rock music... Cheers..

  • WHERE WAS I?

Way up in the nosebleed section, yet my friend and I were interviewed by the camera crew working on the documentary. I have never seen it, for all I know we were left on the cutting room floor...but I'd love to see it if someone can tell me where to get it.

  • Too bad that "The Knack At Carnegie hall" never saw a DVD release-IMO, its one of the best concert discs ever recorded

  • R.I.P. Doug&Bruce

  • thanks for the great post. the absolute best live knack clip out there. by a MILE.

  • @Zettogirl2 Doug Fieger. Unfortunately, he died of lung cancer. His brother, Jeffrey Fieger, is the lawyer who defended Jack Kevorkian (aka Dr. Death).

  • In the late 80's or early 90's Entertainment Tonight went to meet the famous Sharona. she had settled with a job in an office building. She was a date or short term GF of one of the band members, didn't look to special, but of course 20 years later...LOL. The Knack had the Knack

  • God I miss good music!!!!

  • Wish I'd been there. This song is on my All Time Greatest list.

  • This guitar solo is sweet. Who is that guy on that? One of the best solos ever.

  • @oldjizzy Berton Averre, who had been working on the riff a couple of years before he joined the Knack, Very underrated guitar player, but he sure rocked the hell out of this song...

  • I was born in the wrong decade

  • @bigjack0607 The radio was just as horrible back then. It's just that you don't have to endure "Gloria", "Heaven on the 7th Floor" or "Convoy" because that garbage didn't endure. :)

  • Great band!

  • Just superb! Very few bands nowadays could play and sing as well as this live! Amazing.

  • gustong gusto nang alaga vedio e2..

  • this got to be the worst director ever.. not a glimpse of the solo..

  • Such a tune.

  • Looks like Keith Moon Singing

  • what the hell could you do as an encore!!!!! awesome vid.

  • This band ROCK!!

  • Amazing...the best part was the first 5:39 :)

  • Kick ass!

  • RIP Doug . I cant believe two of them are gone now

  • RIP Doug

  • A classic! No question about!

  • This performance is GENIUS! One Fender, one Les paul, some drums and a bass. And the way Doug moves and the way he drops the expressions on his face. God DAMN!

  • One of the best rock song ever... great guitar solo. I have recently knewn about Doug's death. Ancient Romans use to say "Muor giovane chi è caro agli dei" as for "God's favourite death young"...

  • One of the best rock song ever... great guitar solo.

  • I was 15 in 1979. We had no internet, but we had very good music ;-))

  • @NFL9475 you people had, i'm fckn born in the wrong century

  • @NFL9475 I was 19 in 79 and yes .... we had some very very very good music. Its not a nostalgia thing. Its the truth.

  • 2 thumbs up

  • I DISLIKE those 2 a**holes dislikers who think that this song is not likeable..

Awesomy song,,, not happy to be too young for 1979 03 18th.

  • Where the hell did these dudes go?

  • yes.....pure, rock'n roll.

  • I always thought the bridge in this song was brilliant. Total changing it up to a rock tempo then back to do, do, do do, da ,do, da, do, da.

  • I really dig that Les Paul

  • Keith Moon Eyes!!

  • True punk

  • I was 8 but my older Brother had the album and I heard it resonating from his room many times. I was fortunate enough to see them in Atlantic City before Doug passed away. They were absolutely outstanding!!! God Bless Doug and his family. Thanks Face for posting! Did you happen to see them early on?

  • One of the best song arrangements of all time.. Not a boring or misplaced moment, just perfect.

  • Sharona is still alive, and sadly Doug is not. But his passion for her lives on in this great, great song. RIP Doug.

  • Who else thinks this song goes on for about 90 seconds too long?

  • Underated lead guitarist!

  • 4:07 Jump of destiny!

  • I had 4th row floor seats for this band at the Inglewood Forum in LA in the same year to see and experience their performance and energy. Great band with a great date to see them. Bill d. P.

  • What a performance!

  • Antonio From caracas- Venezuela I was there in NYC.

  • 0:47 someone wasnt feeling allright :p

  • Sure The Knack came and went in a flash, but this band could really play. Certainly there's an influence of the Beatles, but this band was something special on their own, and had their own distinct energy, style, and sound. Most bands today couldn't play a guitare riff like that if their lives depended on it.

  • thanks, facedahmusik

Trust me, down here in d.c., we had all this straight-edge hardcore going on, and while I was friends with some prime movers in there, no one was going to tell me how to act and what to listen to or how to dress. Sure, we followed some fashion, but, really, it was a black leather jacket, jeans, that's it. We had a lot of rockkabilly back then around here. Loved that too. I remember seeing rickie lee jones. loved that too! WE CAN HAVE IT ALL!!!!!!!!

  • chido!!!!!!!1

  • Singers got those crazy Keith Moon eyes!!

  • RIP Bruce Gary...

  • It went on to be THE song of the summer that year.

  • not even born yet sorry HAHA

  • Great live performance. Where was the camera when the guitar solo was playing?

Always liked the song. Thanks for sharing!

  • GET THE KNACK!

  • The guitar solo reminds me of James Honeyman Scott of the Pretenders when he played "Up the Neck" live during 1979 - 82.

Briliant stuff from the Knack, probably their best live performance. I remember seeing this show all those years ago - great post.

    Thanks!

  • u gotta love the guitar man

  • This is just awesome.

  • Awesome!

  • One of the tightest live performances I have ever seen. When one can say that 'live' sounds better than the album, and with that guitar solo....... the Knack fucken rocked!

  • BRILL

  • I wonder where the talent goes when they die.

  • I was in the 113th row for this. Unfortunately, the Hall only has 53 rows.

  • grande doug, ci mancherai

  • MY SHARONA BABY

  • What a great band,

  • I wasn't even born yet. Not til August 22, 1979. ^_^

  • this song would have been better if it ended @ 4:00.

  • what a solo!

  • Where was I ? I was on the Prince Street in SOHO. And I survived up to today. Those were great (great) times !!!

  • I love how the people dressed <3

  • Grande Messi cantando My sharona. Cuando vea esto se va dedicar al power pop, new wave . ohhhhhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • El gran Leo Messi se parece un montón al bueno de Doug (R.I.P.) en aquella época.

  • Very, very underrated rock band..damn fine drummer, super solid bass player and a supremely capable lead guitarist, and ...DOUG..

  • i imagine how could it sound with a gretsch or rickembacker guitar

  • @boliboy2299

look at the K.T.Tunstall/Keren Ann version

  • i am a huge fan of all music and can honestly say i have nevr hearr such an amzing songg. For me this is the best songe ever writttene /played and was also in my wedding x

  • Best pop song ever.

  • @rmi227 pop?!

  • awesome video, thanks for sharing

  • I was in the audience that night!!!...The audience must have been more than 70% girls..LOL

    RIP Doug

  • the lead guitarist rocks

  • Soooo sweet...only, they could have made this 10 minutes...blow us away! Give it up Shironaaaaaa!

  • what an electric video...all hail The Knack...

  • When you compare how good these are live,to Arctic Monkey,Killers,Doves,Strokes etc, they don't compare, these are so good there is no difference live or record, the sign of top musicians and singers. You buy a record because you think its great and then expect them to playand sing equally good live, like these and Muse.Doesn't he have a Keith Moon mischief in his eyes!

  • @2HonestIam he's just a rebel. Its nothing to respect him for .

  • NICE! You should be a rock writer.

  • RIP doug

  • camera man crap could not see any of the guitar solo

  • Demais! Remember that song as one of the great hits of the early 80's.

    Somzaço!

  • The song, the album and the band that dominated the summer of 1979...and deservedly so.

  • Parece leo messi el capo. los mismos gestos tiene !!..

  • I heard when they play on the Ed Sullivas show there was no crime cause everyone was watching them on TV.

  • JET own 'em it all!

  • I was fortunate to know The Knack thirty one years ago when "Get the Knack" hit the streets and these guys were the real deal, great song writers and musicians...They were relentless in the amount of performances they played from small clubs to vast arenas, my favorite show was at the Marquee Club in London May 1979, when Doug and the boys hit the stage they were greeted by beer tossing punks and they blasted into the Kinks song "Hard Way" they smoked the stage that night, Doug Fieger is an icon

  • DEMONOID REGISTRATION IS OPEN

    hurry guys

  • This footage is gold, thanks for posting. NYC Carnegie Hall!? Wow! Thanks for the great songs Berton and Prescott... RIP Doug and Bruce.

  • I've been a Knack fan since their first album. I remember listening to My Sharona on the radio as I left for college in '79...sure hate to hear that Doug has passed away. I've got a feeling his music will be rocking generations yet to come...Long live the Knack!

  • The Knack's Doug Feiger, 57 (1952-2010) will always be remembered for co-writing 1979's #1 smash "My Sharona". Too bad that his band had a short career commercially because what a great debut album, GET THE KNACK, was. I've read that he battled cancer since 2006 when he had 2 brain tumours removed. He fought to the bitter end. Thank you, Doug, for creating a memorable rock song which will always be your legacy.

  • D.E.P fuiste un genio de la musica Doug ahora estas en el cielo

  • thanks for leavin us this wonderful song Doug. RIP

  • Outstanding video! RIP Doug.

  • I love how his eyes widen on the "WOOO!"s haha. I think this was just before they made it big. You can feel their determination and passion.. a great example of how a band should play, every night!

  • RIP Doug

  • sin comentarios DEP Doug

  • Another rocker joining the big rock n roll band in Heaven !!!

    RIP !!!!

  • One of the post-disco hits. Had the album. Helped me in my move from San Diego County to Orange County in 1979. Just listened to this last week on the radio and of course turned it up and sang my heart out !!!!!

  • That guitar solo is one of the best (yet under-rated) in rock/pop, right up there with the one in "Rock Around the Clock" (Bill Hailey & the Comets) and "Maybe I'm Amazed" (Wings).

  • Yeah ! I've been saying for years 'Sharona' has one of the best guitar solos EVER, and people would go, 'Psshh, yeah RIGHT !' fucking just listen to it ! Anyway, R.I.P. Doug.

  • Great guitar solo and the camera was everywhere but the guitar!

  • @viscig60

Well spotted, this song has a great solo, its a absolute classic in many ways

  • @viscig60 I HATE that stupid shit! The camera man and the director should be required to know what they're filming!....and it IS Awesome!

  • @viscig60-- You took the words out of my mouth! One of the all-time great melodic leads & the camera couldn't be bothered. I was bitching at the guy out loud with "the guitar, you idiot, the guitar:" lol

  • @viscig60

  • Could not agree with you more. This solo is up there with the best of them.

  • The Knack were such a great band. Great musicianship, songwriting & performing. Bruce Gary was one one of the baddest ass drummers in rock & Doug wrote such melodic, well structured songs. They have their own secure spot in rock`n roll history IMO.

  • This is awesome! R.I.P. Doug.

  • The Knack will never die. GET THE KNACK!

  • Rip Dough!

we keep sing My sharona! for you

  • Death sucks. Another talented rocker gone ...RIP, Doug Fieger.

  • Got me through a 7 week hospital stay. Me and three of my best buddies/fellow patients playing pin ball in the adolescent wing rec room '79-'80. This played with the bass way up constantly. Good time in a bad situation.

  • MAN, did I ever LOVE this damn tune!

I'm still astounded about the fact that this LP was done cheap, quick, and sold millions! When The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and their ilk were getting million dollar budgets for their albums this one was done in 2 weeks for $18, 000 and went gold in 13 days! Just as astounding is the fact that the longest running #1 tune in history with a girl's name in its' title has a line like "I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind'...and it got by the censors!

  • Sadly, the drummer also passed away in 2006. Legendary song!!

  • Doug en El Salvador te admiramos, descansa en paz, por las Sharonas del mundo.... gracias.

  • I always loved the kitchen sink solo to this song. RIP Doud.

  • RIP Doug and Bruce.

  • What a shock! I wasn't even aware Doug had cancer.....I toured with them in summer of 1979 - Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, New Orleans........30+ years ago! Doug was impossibly energetic and Sharona (who went with us) was a sweetheart! RIP Doug.....you WILL be remembered!

  • I haven't stopped crying since I woke up today & read the news. The Knack wasn't an "all time fave" of mine but they were SO important in 1979. Like others have said, the underrated "Good Girls Don't" was it for me but this one was SO important for the time & such a great album. There was good music (Clash, Ramones) in the underground - & Cheap Trick barely above - but everything on radio & TV was such crap & had been for a couple of years. Then came The Knack, a breath of fresh air. RIP Doug.

  • A GREAT talent, Michigan remembers, RIP Doug !!!

  • I am very sad today - I always preferred "Good girls don't" that was the song that inspired me to learn the guitar and start writing songs about girls.

RIP Doug - the world of music was a better place because you lived in it for a while :-(

    Joe

  • RIP Doug.

  • RIP Doug Fieger. My Sharona is the first Rock riff I ever learned on guitar, and inspired me to first play music with people. And every time I hear it, it's the Summer of '79 all over again (six weeks at #1). Ageless powerpop classic!

  • This song was huge the year I graduated from HS. It was literally THE song at the time. It brings back so many memories! I'm so sad to hear that the lead singer died so young...RIP Doug.

  • RIP Doug, always loved your performance of this gig

  • back in '79, they called the Clash "the only band that matters." the beauty of the Knack was -- they didn't matter. They were a supremely tight power pop band, with the best hooks and B-52s jerky beats singing about guys jacking off to younger girls. contrary to what a lot of punks might have told you, there was room in the world for both. Gangs like mine, that 'got it' had more fun. No regimentation, no borderlines. Music was just exploding everywhere. Why choose sides? RIP

  • @backstretch: stated perfectly and a great sentiment. Thanks much!

  • Great take on a great band...thanx.

  • @backstretch I appreciate the intelligent response. I grew up in a hick little town in N.H. and my gang of friends also " got it." You are so right my man - why choose sides ?

  • @facedahmusik Lol, Where in N.H. did you grow up?

  • @CosmikDebrisFZ. In Lincon

  • @facedahmusik Man,lol me too. I now reside 3 miles south in Woodstock, sure you know where that is. It's a small world after all. That's amazing.

  • @CosmikDebrisFZ. I live on Capecod now in lovely Taxachusetts. But lived on Franklin & LeBreque Streets in Lincoln for around 35 years. Graduated in '77 at good ol' , what was then called , Lin-Wood HS. I could drop names. I'm sure you now a buncha my old pals , but I'll refrain for privacy's sake. Peace out ...

  • @facedahmusik Oh ya, I use to hang out down your end when I was a teen. Had a few friends down that way. Hanging out at Woody's Torch Woodshop. Good ol Pigs ear or south end as it was known. I lived on the east end of Pollard road towards Loon Mountain. I'm sure you you know my brother, he graduated in 79.

  • Incredible band! Way more then just a one hit wonder. The Knack were at their best during this gig, and it's a shame this concert was only released on LaserDisc. Still waiting for a re-realese on DVD.

  • RIP Doug. Great song, great band.

  • i never knew tom baker was in the knack! ;)

  • ...RIP Doug...

  • Right on, Salguine- for me, my all-time fave groups have got to be The Beatles, The Clash, The Jam, Blondie, Elvis Costello and the Attractions for example.

Each had great drummers (yes, Ringo too!). Not forgetting the great Bruce Gary!

    RIP Doug Fieger!!!

  • Doug Fieger died today....he rocked serious ASS!!!!

  • Actually the date of this Carnegie Hall show was October 10th, 1979, I saw them one week earlier at Detroit's Masonic Temple on October 3rd, which to this day is a show that I will never forget.

  • Totally! Burton is a shred machine!

  • Agreed! This is the last time you ever heard an extended guitar solo in a major pop song. I remember back then, it was the solo that every guitarist had to learn. Just like how Terry Kath's solo on 25 or 6 to 4 was in 1970. My Sharona seemed to cap of the decade in style.

  • BERTON DESTROYS!!!

  • I was 12 days from being born when they did this! Still in the womb.haha

  • Wish the camera focused more on the hands of the lead guitarist when he played his solo! However i still liked this vid!

  • lo maximo re grande.... LIMA- PERU SALUDOS

LOCOS DE AZCARRUNZ ALTO DE COTO

  • Mucho Gracias - - -

  • In 1979 I was entering junior high......rock ruled with these guys.

  • does anyone wonder why the hippie gets slapped in the face with a towel at :46?

  • That's too funny! I had to go back to catch it. He took it like there wasn't anything out of the ordinary! Just the every day towel-slap in the face at the Knack show.

  • bruce gary was a BADDASS. if the knack suffered from a kind of LA pro corny-ness, they also prevailed by having one of the most killer drummers this side of topper headon. he made the knack into the clash of power pop. dig that snare sound.

  • A huge fan of Topper's drumming myself- great name-check. Also great is Pretenders drummer, Martin Chambers.

    Clash 4-ever!!
