@averagemale2000 I totally agree with you on that one. I thought Sky TV were re-making the series but the trail seems to have gone cold on that one. Long overdue. Thanks for your comment.
I gotta say after watching this video I wonder if you'll be putting a whole Amiga into a tower case. I'd love to see it in the tower as it would leave more room for expansions... On the other hand it's all theory for me until I get around re-buying the Amiga that I sold ages ago. And mind you, that was a *mistake*. ^_^
@kad3t Thanks for your comment. Alas no I won't be putting it into a tower. I look at Amigakit.com and at £69 for a case it works out too expensive a project at this point in time. I do intend building myself an A1200 tower sometime soon though as soon as funds allow. Yes getting rid of your Amiga was a mistake lol. :-)
What about my notebook/laptop idea? It's probably even pricier but think of the final effect? ^_^
About three years ago when I had loads of money, job and no worries I was thinking about getting myself A500 (for compatibility) & maybe used A3000/4000 for more demanding projects but something made me change my mind. And now I'm stuck with emulation. ^_^
@kad3t I would love to buy an Amiga 500 and a 500+. I would love to get my hands on a A4000 Tower but they very rarely come up on eBay and when they do cost a small fortune. At least with Emulation you can get your Amiga fix until you get yourself a box. Live is funny you either have the money but not the time, or have the time but not the money. Still one day ... Lol. ^_^
Well, my most dreamed of set up would consist of A500, A600 (for newer version of kickstars) and revised chips (compared to A500+) and A4000T with PPC addon (266Mhz) and 68040 60Mhz at least by default. That said it's much more expensive than I could afford now, so yeah, I'm down to emulation. It's not that bad however as I can emulate many more configurations of systems than I could ever have. ^_^ And it's darn speedy too. ^_^
@kad3t I agree that would be sweet. I do intend getting an A600, I know it gets bad press but I would like it for my Amiga collection and the 2.04 Kickstart ROM and Workbench. Do you use WinUAE I hear that has come on leaps and bounds. I was thinking of buying Cloanto's Amiga Forever as they have the license to include all the Amiga games with their emulator and I personally feel they do their bit to keep the Amiga community alive and package the emu into a neat DVD.
I use WinUAE and you have no idea how capable it is... That is if you never used it. It can go from basic A1000 to the most expanded A4000 configuration with graphics, CPU & memor expansions emulated all in one - all very very fast and responsive. Also compatibility is (if you configure it by hand) close to 100%. I only encoutered issues with maybe 2-3 games in hundreads I runned. That said it doesn't mean that they wouldn't work, I just didn't try hard enough. ^_^
@kad3t I used WinUAE in its early days and it was impressive even then. I hear the latest version is just unbelievable in terms of speed, capability and features. I must take another look at it and have a play around with some of the configurations.
It is awesome! And you can configure it to do literally anything you'd like it to, given that you do it by hand as the buil-in configurations are OK but not entirely perfect. If you ever need any advice on it or help drop me a line at kad3t.uk@gmail.com as I've been using it for years now and I think that I've learned it quite thoroughly. ^_^
As for Cloanto I believe that they only have rights to "some" games but they do own all the kickstarts...
@DLiberator78 saying all that though, it still doesn't run everything at full speed. Until it does, I'd recommend sticking to actual hardware if you code amiga demos
@nicholasthetaylor Granted and you are correct. I just wanted to put this to the test. Fortunately I have another Amiga 1200 which has the original 127MB Hard Disk that came with it when I bought it in '93. My ultimate goal is to build an A1200 tower and that will have a full sized 4Gb HDD. Thanks for your comments. :-)
@DLiberator78 That sounds awesome! I'm torn between rehousing into a tower, or doing what expansion I can within the original case. I would like to keep the a1200 case, so I'm thinking 3.1 kickstart, Blizzard 1260 64mb with clock, 4gb flash drive, cdwriter and original floppy. It will probably melt. That's assuming that I am able to have three IDE devices connected. Is this possible?
@nicholasthetaylor The Blizzard 1260 is an awesome accelerator card and I would love to get my hands on one of those one day. You could add a 4-Device Buffered IDE Interface (A1200/A600) which is available from Amigakit.com for about £13.99. You can use this device to add a CD-ROM and house it within your original 1200 case. This won't affect the internal Floppy. One of my YT friends RetroSofer did a nice CD-ROM mod using a laptop CD drive in the 1200 case, check out his channel.
@DLiberator78 Wow thanks DLiberator78. You have just helped one of my favourite dreams get well on its way to coming true! Best of luck with getting hold of a Blizzard 1260. I think we're both gonna need plenty of luck, as they are rare and expensive - but totally worth it!
@nicholasthetaylor You are very welcome. I wish you luck with your project. I agree a Blizzard will cost a small fortune but totally worth it as you said. Trouble is I will have to wait until I have the funds. Thanks for your comments.
If you're planning on buying it but wanna try it out first before you lay down your money, let me know as I just might know where to get everything *needed* for the emulation. ^_^
Thanks mate, I saw Lofarias using ClassicWB and I have downloaded it. I might try and give that a go. If I get stuck installing it then I may pop over to the English Amiga Board and see if any of the guys there can assist. Thanks for the tip. ;-)
nice, they need to come out with a B-7 Movie... soon...
