Your take on the song is interesting, but I kind of suspect you're getting defensive over an issue that's not really there. My radio station will play this song, extra verses and all, after Brown Sugar and before Spirit in the Sky. No censorship of ideas is happening here. Now me, I feel like Townshend's lyrics often describe submission, dependence and redemption, but not repentance so much. And I think he's got some unique belief set that's not actually Christian, right?

I don't think I found what you were referring me to. Typing "Empty Glass" into the RS archives only yielded one result in 1989. This was a review of the themes and content as well, but it spoke more about his antagonism with punk and quoted him saying something about using homosexual imagery to scare people. That's a pretty good summary of how I see Pete Townshend: spiritual, of course, but also aggressive and a little creepy really.

When a great classic song is used in the wrong context, like being associated with a tv show, especially when the lyrics don't fit the storyline (except for the repeating of the words 'who are you') it's like a bird thrown in a cage. "Won't Get Fooled Again", too, is about something much bigger than solving forensics.

Musically, and iconically. There is more going on in this song than almost any other song ever made. This is the best song ever made. So many idiots use F-bombs to be cool, but the f-bomb in this song is such a backseat afterthought it feels so natural. Radio stations shouldn't have started censoring it because it belongs there.
