hmmm. Best suomenkielinen version is done by Finnish blues artist Dave Lindholm. Seach for Dave Lindholm: Tupaakka, Viina Ja Villit Naiset (live 1991) here in YouTube
@geofbrit59 The joke is that THEY had recorded "Till The Day I Die" for Delta earlier in 1949. That's why he's saying "you'll have to take your business to Delta."
My dad taught me this song, I'm 59. Since the internet, I've discovered that I'm not the only one who's ever heard of this classic. This version is just insane!
@BeatNick13 Tim Spencer, indeed. The original recording by the SOTP was a duet by him and Lloyd Perriman, with Hugh Farr (otherwise on violin) playing the mandolin. The lyrics here are not the original ones.
The chorus sounds the way I remember hearing this, from way back, probably early 50s. Did my father have it on an old 78? He had a lot of old things. Certainly seems the best of various versions available, but I haven't tried them all.
@rockgor My father and mother had this on 78 rpm when I was a kid. I am 69 years of age now. I used to play it and sing with it. They had another old 78 rpm called "Taxi" and I used to dance to it.
@hnbbs Hi Jim Tried to write a message to you on your homepage, but the computer wouldn't let me. Got your comment on Cigarettes, etc.. My mother and her brother used to play that and Spike Jones and Dorthy Shay. They'd laugh their heads off. Regards from a fellow mid-westerner. Grew up in a MN village. Now live in Los Angeles. Here's the gist of it. CA has nicer weather. The Midwest has nicer people. Rock
AWESOME STUFF!!!

Who originally wrote this song? Was it them? I heard it was Sons of Pioneers.
BeatNick13 1 year ago
@BeatNick13 Someone named Spencer wrote it. Don't know who recorded it first.

Even back in the 1940s we had sophisticated
musicians who provided music for those
seeking refined entertainment.
My mother and her brother loved this crazy,
old song.
tx 4 the post.
