The original intention may honestly have been to honor American Indians. Use of the mascot after Native people have explained that it is unacceptable makes the offense intentional. Retention of the mascot is a perpetuation of the same old paternalism: "we know better what you need, what you want, and how you are honored than you do."

Come on guys, can't you see that this is the same thing? He's a guy in a costume dancing for a basketball game. We don't like seeing that, it's appauling.
