what I really appreciate about this particular tutorial is that, not only is it easy to follow how you make the stitches, but you also explain how to read the pattern. thanks
thank you so much for your videos1 Im in Tx as well, near Houston, wishi could meet you in person, hoping some of your talents will rub off LOL, I am having surgery soon on my right arm and am looking for patterns ill be able to do while recovering, this pattern seems easy enough for me to do, a good project ot keep me from dyingof boredom, ur videos are really great and inspiring!
i want to make this blanket after I finish the one I am working on now. I didn't know how to read a pattern but watching this video has really helped me alot. Thank you so much for your patience and clear way of explaing the directions.
@hightfam5 I can't seem to get the math to work right, so what you can do is make a chain a whole lot longer than what you need, then work out the ripple stitches until it is the width you need. Ignore the extra chain stitches and remove them later.
so you said that the stitch count is 11sts+3. but how come you made it 164? when i subtracted 3 and divided by 11, i got 14.63. im soo confused. i also wanted to make it bigger. do you think you could help me understand it better?
I got the multiple of 11 + 3 from the Project Linus website. The number 164 is what I do on the video because it is what my pattern calls for. I had trouble figuring out the multiple for different sizes from my pattern, so I referred to the pattern on the PL site.
Written direction to me are hard to understand, Out of all the videos I've seen, this is the first one that has shown the directions on paper, I am grateful for that is helps me to comprehand it better! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I have been at a little loss, you see I learned how to crochet on 10/2000 by my husbands Italian 4 ft granny she said when I asked her if she could teach me how to make a blanket for my very I'll mom "oh yes but we must hurry, I don't have much time" Tessy 89 passed away in March 17, 2001 but she taught me what she knew. You see Tessy never learned how to read patterns she just watched and learned. I thank you because your method of teaching has somehow brought Tessy back to me and I am learnin
@canrsiegrl The one in the demo is smaller than a twin size. There is a similar afghan on the Project Linus website. They have different sizes and a stitch count available. It is slightly different, but not enough to confuse you.
Hi! I doubled the size of this because I wanted a bigger blanket, and ended up with a left over of five chains. Is it alright if I slip stitch them together instead of doing the last double crochet?
@Bethintx1 At the end of Row one, in your video you have two chains left over instead of three. So you worked a double crochet into the end of it, ending it before turning to work the second row. I had five chains left over and instead of doing that last dc, I just slip stitched the remaining chains to the last shell to make it look like the last dc before turning and starting on row two. Thank you for demonstrating this pattern!
this is so neet finished my 2nd granny square but now am lookin at grany ripples I always wondered about those my aunts made them but me I am so in the box thought you had to keep changing colors and cutting yarn dang!!! I luv you
Malinda from NH when its 12 degrees what better to do then crochet and keep lap and hands warm at the same time ,what a great find for me ...THANKS
bethintx is there anyway you can make a video of Crochet Wheel Stitch Square - Catherine's Wheel - Bavarian Crochet , id love to learn how to do it and you are such a great teacher. ive watched other videos but i just cant get it. . . I made your granny ripple and it turned out beautiful.
@scarletemt I actually have not done the Catherine wheel stitch. Both Mikeyssmail & Teresa have how to videos on this stitch. I have a long list of videos lined up to do and the Catherine Wheel is not on that list.
Hi, I have been watching your videos for a while now, and last night i found a hook and a BIg bag of yarn, went i try to make 164 chains i get to about 30 to 50 chains and the yarn starts to come un done following back breaking, I am doing them too tight or what,
Also does using a 3.5 MM hook effect to out come?
@tara37830 If you are using medium weight yarn the 3.5 mm hook will be way too small. That could be your problem. A 5.5 mm hook is a more appropriate size hook. I would look at the yarn label and use the recommended hook size. Otherwise, your yarn fibers could be weak or rotten and breaking.
Lol Well tis is the biggest ook in my house, lol i am so happy my grandmother owned a craftshop and still has a whole room for yarn and hooks, so i am gonna try new yarn and a bigger hook, What size are you using there? I don;t think you said in the first video
@Bethintx1 It was the hook breaking my yarn, i am gonna start on it in a minute, i have been practicing for two days now on this thing. I think i am ready to start lol
Very clear precise instructions from a natural teacher. This video made me subscribe to your channel.
I have some hell yarn, at least that's what I call it because it's SO difficult to work with, I'm thinking of using in a pattern like this for a baby blanket.
I have a super skein in white and variegated pink/purple mix. I think I could make the color switch with this pattern and be very pretty in just 2 colors. Maybe even weave in a little ribbon at the end, IDK a lot of ideas /w this pattern
Can I just say you are an AMAZING instructor. I'm a beginner and I GOT it!! You don't assume someone knows how to read the instructions and explain everything thoroughly and precisely. I'm making a Granny Ripple Afghan - WOO HOO!!
oh no.. how did do that happen .. i follow you... oh man!!! so what do you think i should do.. should just keep going or do i have to stop... please help..
@lovingGodiserve Two options. Rip it out to where you added the stitches, or continue being sure not to add more shells in the next rows. You may require more yarn.
@lovingGodiserve I think you have added a shell in there somehow. You should have 6 peaks & 6 valleys. the first up and last down should have 4 shells. when you make the last double crochet, you may have made a shell instead...that is a common mistake that even experienced crocheters have to frog out.
Om Goodness.. i am so surprise that you answer my question this fast. wow you are the best.. God bless you... so does the shell add as i go on with my afghan or not. i am so new to crochet.
@lovingGodiserve You are supposed to have three shells going down the hill and one cluster. Then, a cluster and three shells going up the hill. The first up-hill and last down hill has 4 shells each.
Thank you so much for your videos! They are so helpful. I just wanted to ask if you were doing maintenance on your website because when I try to access it there is an error and it won't load.
@oldmovielover2432 There is a problem on the site host. They were having trouble with one of their sponsors and have been messing around with the site. I'll go over there and see what I can do. Thanks for letting me know. I do not visit it every day.
I am slightly confused, is a double crochet in America different to a double crochet in the uk? I have a book that I learnt to crochet from and the stitches that you are calling "doubles" are called "tripples" in my book, or am I just reading it wrong??. Thanks for the videos they are great and a real inspiration :o)
@vshepherd77 Yes. They do differ. Mine are US terms. There are conversion charts in a lot of places on the net (use Google to find them) and in the back of every Crochet Today Magazine. This is a great question for a Q&A video!
@nicolehockeygirl No problem! its just practice thats gonna make you alot better! and I promise that. If you ever need any help, message me! Im currently making just a plain crocheted square afghan. So like I said, Message me and I might be able to help ya! ;-)
Can you please tell me how I can figure out how to change this pattern to make this afghan for a California King Sized bed?
