Before going blue its good to use level curves to clean up the drawing. But anyway here's a way (better than he used) Make a copy of your layer. Make a white layer and move it under the copy. From the color menu select 'color to alpha' choose white (it's the default) look at the layer thumbnail (it's all transparent with black lines) select lock transparency in the layers dialog. Now just make the foreground color whatever you want, and drag and drop it on your pic... poof color lines.

I also don't know how they make it blue but i use another method. Just create a new layer and trace your drawing. After your done tracing is up to you if you want to see your original picture or not. While your tracing make sure you are selecting a new layer. Well thats what i usually do...I'm no expert....

one of the least helpful videos on the web, it shows off how talented she is while giving no insight to what the fuck is going on, I wouldn't be so mad except for the fact I typed in gimp tutorial. there is next to nothing on the web telling you how to simply use the paintbrush tool and render it in a different color.

I think she's using the pen tool, that could be found on the older versions. The tool is now called Ink tool. :) I've tried the ink tool, but it does not look so precise with the lines... XD Maybe she has just practised a lot (a lot!!).. :b

I think the line is a little too thick, would look nicer/livelier with differences in the width, like in objects in the foreground the line would be thicker than in parts that are far away. Also, where the light is cast the line would look nice as thin.

It's drawing your traditional art onto the computer so you can do whatever you want with it, like make it look better. You have to make a sketch before you actually draw the finished product, are you even an artist?

I can see how some could use those words in interchangeable ways. My habit had always been to usually draw straight on the screen. Try not to be too sensitive. Thick skin is healthy.

An illust doesn't need a traditionally made sketch to look good... You can just sketch it on the computer by using a tablet. I even know some people that use mouse for sketching but the illust still looks OK, though I'd never do that since using a mouse is such a pain.

Actually since he used xine i guess he scanned the sketch Thingy that he draw previously in real life paper.

Then just change colors to make it less dark, add a layer on top of it and start drawing.

I'd really like to have a tablet, using the mouse is so slow for that kind of thing...
