I call someone who likes a team when they start doing good a "bandwagon" fan. The Nation and Empire are both FULL of them. Every time you see someone in a Lakers jersey and Yankees cap, they are a bandwagon for example. Anywhooo... I have been part of Red Sox Nation my whole life because I have always loved them, even when they sucked.

I don't think it hurts the NFL as a whole but it sucks for those particular fans that don't get to see what they'd want. Other sports will suffer more in ratings. Heck people will watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. Super Sunday is a glorified American holiday & you can't come close to saying that about another championship. You also have to remember that New England has possibly the best Universities and colleges in the country which enables a lot of the graduates from these schools to go out and get jobs anywhere in the country which may contribute to the fact that Boston fans seem to be everywhere.
