In china they designate Mandarin Chinese as the official dialect of China, it is what is taught in school and what kids learn regardless of their local dialect. This makes business and trade easier throughout the country.

In china they designate Mandarin Chinese as the official dialect of China, it is what is taught in school and what kids learn regardless of their local dialect. This makes business and trade easier throughout the country.
Parents who do not speak english can't teach their children to speak english the schools and government must then step in. Unless you want to completely disadvantage yourself.

I agree with you. I am an American of English heritage and I think Spanish should be a 2nd official Language. What is wrong with 2 languages when a huge amount of people speak the 2nd. We need to be more accepting in the USA. Thats what really being an American in America is about. Besides, learning a 2nd language only makes you smarter and better able to comunicate with the world. America isn't an Island. All of our neighbors to the south speak Spanish. We need to learn both.

The English speakers gave the significant cultural and industrial contributions to the country. Mexicans and others didn't contribute culturally which is why they need to become American and adopt our culture. We're a melting pot which means everyone has to assimilate and learn English.

Once i was at the store with my mom, and were are both Mexican, and I know English quite well, so i was talking in Spanish, and some lady got very mad at me, she said speak English your in America, 1st of all US doesn't have an official language so i can speak whatever i want, and 2nd America is a continent, and Mexico is in the continent of America. Besides i know English, Spanish, French and learning Chinese. so i say no english should not be the official language.

Good idea. I don't see why declaring Spanish official in a town will cause its inhabitants to not want to learn English. The appeal and practicality of English is quite obvious enough; they can choose to learn it if they want. But if a substantial part of the population of this town is learning Spanish, not English, natively as a first language, then this policy is totally sensible. Conduct city business in the language that people understand. Why lose common sense over this?
