According to many sources, including "Hey Ho Let's Go: The Story of the Ramones" by Everett True, Joey did indeed pass away while listening to this song. As far as "tearing up" goes, I cried when my grandfather died in the early 80's, then held the belief that crying does nothing (during which time I didn't cry). That was broken on April 15th, 2001... After nearly 20 years of no tears, Joey Ramone taught me how to cry again; and I cry even as I type this... RIP Joey Ramone

@italianstallion522 Joey died of cancer, not because of drugs. I may be wrong but from what I have heard he was actually not much of a partier, he had bipolar disorder and stayed in a lot. While he used some drugs in the 60's, he never actually struggled with addiction.
@Sonya838 He didn't have bipolar disorder, he had OCD. Dee Dee might have had bipolar disorder though and Joey did struggle with an alcohol addiction later on but he managed to quit his drinking.
We who were priveledged to see the Ramones live were truly blessed.
