@cadamy4 The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy and our solar system isn't placed in the middle of this spiral galaxy. Search for "our place in the universe" on google. Our milky way galaxy is one of the billions of galaxies, with billions of stars/suns in it. If we look up at the clear sky we can see stars within our galaxy - and also many other constellations and galaxies. It's an immensity we can't imagine, yet we think to understand. Life is interesting :-)
@cadamy4 We live at the edge of one arm of the spiral galaxy. What we see spreading across the sky at night is the inner edge of one of the other arms. We are looking towards the centre. This is why astronomers have been able to see into the centre to find a massive black hole there.
GODDAMNIT!!! I was on another video that said this was on Mars! I'm sad because I assumed it was someplace else... But also glad I may see this place for myself in my lifetime. :)
@mynameistoshort That sure is an interesting approach to end your own life, but wouldn't you rather stay alive to enjoy those beautiful stars a bit more!?
@NoirYorkCity Yep... It is just like that. the biggest observatories of the world are there. The purest sky in the world. And the corporations arrived to fuck it all up! I'm from there but I live in DC. It's so sad to see stuff like that being damage for the greed of capitalism. PS: That's close from were the miners got trapped. My dad was the legal representative of that company.
@VicTheMouth It was thrilling to see the Southern Sky and the magellanic clouds for the first time while on vacation last July. The northern constellations were upside down and the first quarter moon phase appreared third quarter in the southern hemisphere.
Holy crap! I guess this is why poeple are so pissed about light pollution in cities. I never even thought of seeing THAT much of the milky way from mother earth.
Desierto de Atacama, Chile....los cielos mas limpios del mundo.
