I have never seen such a dark and profound anime, most of the ones I have watched being Sailor Moon, DBZ, One Piece, Naruto, and Bobobo- Bobobobo...I can't wait to (hopefully) get this series on DVD as anime/mangas has just appealed to me on a whole new level...
Did you ever watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? It's completely different from Evangelion (better say it's the exact opposite, with Evangelion being a dark real robots anime about desperation, and TTGL an exciting super robots anime about overcoming the odds), but it's from Gainax too and it's amazing as well.
It isn't "dark" at all, but it's pretty profound, with hidden homages to many super robots and real robots series, symbolism, etc...
If you'r looking for darker stuff, Ghost in the shell.

this is the anime that has fueled my philosophy and has gotten me to question my surroundings. This anime is here to prove one thing and one thing only, fate is not written in stone it's what you make of it, so don't lose hope becuase as long as blood pulses through the earth, the moon, the sky, and the sun, man kind has hope.
Shin Seiki Evangelion has many religious aspects and it seems that Anno was trying to make a point and not try to make a regular show, on how humans (some of us, like me possibly, may not actually be humans) are connected to the world and how we continue our selfish acts upon the world for greed, lust, and the other sins. In my opinion the human race is unforgivable considering all the things we have done to each other and to the world. So in my opinion I think that we don't deserve to die.....
God i loved this show, I started watching it when i was 14, the same age as an eva pilot.I dont know why but i always thought Misato was hot. As with all japanese things i never can bloody understand them without reading a thesis on it. i just remember the last episode where it went all funny and weird and everyone is standing around clapping. how is this connected? rei a clone of yui or what. does he really kill asuka. and who the hell is kawuro exactly? and does shinji fuck rei?
The ending to the TV series was an existential look into the psychology of each character, focused on Shinji. That is what the entire series was really about. To have your questions answered regarding everything else, you really have to watch Death & Rebirth, and then End of Evangelion. EoE especially. Watch those, take a few days to gather your thoughts, and get back to me. ;) lol
yeah, but the whole series if you looked at it all was a little hard to understand unless you really researched the show and all the subjects in psychology it represented. I stopped trying awhile ago when I realized that trying to hard was ruining the show. If you stop concentrating too much you can see "THE" meaning a little clearer. I don't know why but it does help.

Yeah, I think that was what Misato represented. But for a person who has an utterly depressing and negative self-image (Shinji, Gendo, and the others to an extent) it (the merging) "affixes" the traits of everyone into one, everyone is equal. Which, to them, is a plus since they regarded themselves as some sort of lesser existence.

As hard it as it might be to accept, I believe not making sequels helps to keep the artistic integrity of the original. The purpose of sequels is almost always to capitalize on the opportunity to make more money, not creativity. So I hope they never make a sequel of NGE.

I have a question for you skgb75, how was Asuka able to stay in the real world. In the end of the film, when Asuka and Shinji are on earth with the red liquid all around them, apparently Asuka got back to earth before Shinji.
nobody really knows for sure but there was debate about whether shinji brought back asuka since he decided the fate of humanity or that asuka brought herself back-nobody really knows the true meaning to this whole movie although there are very good speculations
When Shinji rejected instrumentality, it meant that everybody could come back instead of forming into one human. Because of that, they had the will to live. Asuka had such a strong will to live, she eventually came back to earth the same time Shinji did.
"Angel" is actually a bad translation of "shito", which means something like "messenger".
As I said before, in the end it turns out (in episodes 25&25) that neither the "angels", nor the EVAs, nor NERV ever mattered. It was always about Shinji; which is shown in the alternate reality where Shinji is a normal and Misato a highschool teacher. Both the 21st century mecha-drama and the 20th century domestic comedy are possibilities for his life.

Shin Seiki Evangelion has many religious aspects and it seems that Anno was trying to make a point and not try to make a regular show, on how humans (some of us, like me possibly, may not actually be humans) are connected to the world and how we continue our selfish acts upon the world for greed, lust, and the other sins. In my opinion the human race is unforgivable considering all the things we have done to each other and to the world. So in my opinion I think that we don't deserve to die.....

this is totally random but i just watched episode 16 which is and always will be a favorite
its the one where shinji rips out of the floating sphere from the alternate dimension
i think when he comes out it would be much more dramatic to hear shinji screaming while coming out...

God i loved this show, I started watching it when i was 14, the same age as an eva pilot.I dont know why but i always thought Misato was hot. As with all japanese things i never can bloody understand them without reading a thesis on it. i just remember the last episode where it went all funny and weird and everyone is standing around clapping. how is this connected? rei a clone of yui or what. does he really kill asuka. and who the hell is kawuro exactly? and does shinji fuck rei?

The ending to the TV series was an existential look into the psychology of each character, focused on Shinji. That is what the entire series was really about. To have your questions answered regarding everything else, you really have to watch Death & Rebirth, and then End of Evangelion. EoE especially. Watch those, take a few days to gather your thoughts, and get back to me. ;) lol

yeah, but the whole series if you looked at it all was a little hard to understand unless you really researched the show and all the subjects in psychology it represented. I stopped trying awhile ago when I realized that trying to hard was ruining the show. If you stop concentrating too much you can see "THE" meaning a little clearer. I don't know why but it does help.

Yeah, I think that was what Misato represented. But for a person who has an utterly depressing and negative self-image (Shinji, Gendo, and the others to an extent) it (the merging) "affixes" the traits of everyone into one, everyone is equal. Which, to them, is a plus since they regarded themselves as some sort of lesser existence.

As hard it as it might be to accept, I believe not making sequels helps to keep the artistic integrity of the original. The purpose of sequels is almost always to capitalize on the opportunity to make more money, not creativity. So I hope they never make a sequel of NGE.

I have a question for you skgb75, how was Asuka able to stay in the real world. In the end of the film, when Asuka and Shinji are on earth with the red liquid all around them, apparently Asuka got back to earth before Shinji.

nobody really knows for sure but there was debate about whether shinji brought back asuka since he decided the fate of humanity or that asuka brought herself back-nobody really knows the true meaning to this whole movie although there are very good speculations

When Shinji rejected instrumentality, it meant that everybody could come back instead of forming into one human. Because of that, they had the will to live. Asuka had such a strong will to live, she eventually came back to earth the same time Shinji did.

"Angel" is actually a bad translation of "shito", which means something like "messenger".
As I said before, in the end it turns out (in episodes 25&25) that neither the "angels", nor the EVAs, nor NERV ever mattered. It was always about Shinji; which is shown in the alternate reality where Shinji is a normal and Misato a highschool teacher. Both the 21st century mecha-drama and the 20th century domestic comedy are possibilities for his life.

EVA00-Rei / EVA01-Shinji / EVA02- Asuka / EVA03-Touji / EVA04-Exploded due to s2 Engine(sorry 5 evas)those were the only ones shown, but with graveyard of evas, there was AKAZILLION*lol*. wonder if theyre going to make a OVA series of Evagelion.=( i miss the show so dam much lol
