Thanks for the vid clip. I really love seeing Kodachi (shoto) swordsmanship, even when they are at the loosing end of a length of two-by-four. I am also glad that many of the techniques I practice have managed to make it into the modern era undiluted.
The above clip shows the "Ran ai" KATA using kodachi. It is not kihon. The number of basic techniques (kihon) are 12....or 13 depending on how you count them.
Seitei Jodo doesn't, though the main school Shinto Muso ryu has several including two swords at once. If youre familiar with Seitei Jodo, the kata "Hissage" is done with a short sword in Shinto Muso-ryu though longsword in Seitei.
I study Mugai ryu, so Ive been exposed to the tanjo side only so far. I will be starting shindo muso ryu jodo very soon!! I cant wait.Didnt Nakayama Hakudo practice this style of jo as well?
Yup he did. He studied Shinto Muso ryu under Uchida Ryogoro if I remember correctly. Nakayama recieved a license in Jodo, though not a Menkyo, and taught Jodo to some of his students. I think this line of (incomplete SMR-Jodo survives to this day but I got no info on it.

Jo is usually under the head of the fighter, really?
carlosescipion 2 years ago
@carlosescipion a jo should be just about as high as your shoulder. i think that is a bo, because it is about as high as the man wielding it.
anrei0000 1 year ago
@anrei0000 No it's not a bo, a bo is taller than it's wielder.
Also a jo should come up to mid chest height, but with short people it may be higher.
