Here's what matters about real life: burst fire doesn't work over a couple dozen yards. Go ahead and try it over 100 yards. Bet you don't hit anything. Burst fire is less accurate than burst, sure, but you're not going to hit anything 'long range' after anything but the first round unless you're relying on a decent bit of luck mixed in with your skill. Sure, it's wrong to remove burst, especially if you're going for realism. Just the same.. Burst don't work too well.
i think the tri burst makes the soldier less disciplined if the gun is already burst fired they wont need to controll their finger but if you give them a full auto gun you need to be more disciplined

repeated pulling of trigger on a 3 round burst as fast as you can does have about the same amout of recoil as full auto. 3 round burst and waiting a second or 2 before pulling the trigger is how to use it effectively.

Good point, 3 burst is always handy on shooters. One trigger above the waist an their dead, but now your gunna have to take 2 or 3 to get full impact. Also how do you change the fire burst from fully auto to 3 burst?

I understand what you are saying. I just don't think you're correct, in the sense that the game doesn't encourage burst fire to be more accurate. At close range, spraying bullets everywhere is a very effective way to kill the enemy, hence hipfire. That is how BF3 is. Also in BF3 if you are firing at long range and you just let it fly, you aren't going to kill anyone, you have to burst or even change firing modes to semi-auto. I didn't see anything like what you talked about in the BF3 beta.
Well..it might be unrealistic but if you played bf2, it's the exact same recoil, and I don't remember players complaining about the recoil on bf2 (who was one hell of a great game with tons of success) . I just trust them as long as it is DICE.

You obviously have never fired a real automatic or semi automatic before. just the barrel lift is an increase of time making the same rate impossible as full auto or burst fire, if you did as you said, you'd actually be single tapping directly into the sky on shot 5 or less. Luckily I usually use semi-auto when firing longer distances... so I never noticed that the spread is worse when firing bursts on full-auto. Anyone know if this is the case with the actual burst fire-mode as well?
But yeah, it's crazy. But, I still trust DiCE, and believe they'll fix most of these issues. We'll see if my trust was well-placed when the actual release is out.
Great game in a lot of ways, but 4-5 AR bursts to kill is frustrating as hell. 5 to 15 damn bullets. The worst is the enemy ducking after 4 bursts and then 2-3 seconds recovery a fifth burst doesn't kill him, but he kills you in a single burst. No wonder Will Ferrell is losing his shit as a voice actor.
It's not recoil that the problem is... It's the stupid bullet spread. It's beyond unrealistic in burst fire. Semi automatic and fully automatic are basically the only way to go.
@grateful535 Actually it is... I don't get this. In BF3 beta on PC burst- and semiautomatic firing beats automatic almost every time. Sure recoil is controllable with most weapons but you will never get camper down when you fire like that. You need to AIM.
burst fire on a gun is effective because it is consistently the same amount of shots...making it easier to deal with...but on full auto, the user will be able to understand the kick of the gun after a few shots and be able to control it (experienced/strong soldiers can)...but when u shoot with unequal bursts and unequal timing, u are constantly adjusting to the new kick.. thus making it inaccurate.

Ummm.. Don't you know that no one in the military even uses the 3 shot burst on the m16. They wouldn't hit anything. I know first hand that the Army always fires the m16 on single shot. Especially at range.
well i thought that if you used the burst fire control instead of controlling your fire with automatic on that it would have like no recoil and when you control your fire when you have automatic on you would have alot of recoil... if that makes sense
I hate the bf3 beta, I hated the look of the bf3 demo and I figured I'd give it a try before I said anything negative, but I think the graphics are a little under developed and the game play is a little slow and that the menus are too distracting and crowded. At least I tried to like the game.
Playing the beta now and it seems the article is right, burst fire is dead in the beta. I did not get to play on the alpha so I cannot make any comparisons... but I am getting more kills shooting fully auto than on burst fire. (o.o)
What Gunns means is the fact that if u dont switch fire modes the recoil is more noticeable. I found that if I hit down on my d pad I was able to switch fire modes to either 2/3 round burst or 1 round fire mode which is more accurate than u just staying on full auto and trying to burst. Obviously Its a little misinformed but they did nerf the burst fire he is 50% correct burst fire isn't as effective as full auto because of the bullet spread not because of recoil I actually played beta with my friends.
They dud that because of the noobs in bad company 2 who used the M16 like a full auto rifle. Gunns you read it wrong when he is saying tap fire (if your obviously not aware) means pulling the trigger as fast as possible like people do with the fal in MW2 it has about the same recoil. but at the end he was saying burst fire yourself like hold the trigger for 2 or 3 shots repeat. If you tap fired as fast as full auto you would have a bigger spread? How do you tap fire faster than shooting a fully automatic? I spent most of my time playing black ops and less playing BFBC2. In black ops using the g11 or m16 which are three round burst you can't shoot faster than it allows you and that's always slower than full auto. The upside is three rounds go to one vital spot and kills the person mostly on the first three rounds.
pepole have difernt taste if you like to play fast paced pretty fun cod then play it or Battle field then play it no need to hate i like both if i feel like playing fast paced game cod or slow but fun battelfield i mean we can all like both i mean good god their both fun and its all a gaming community so just try to not fight on which is better.

been playing the BF3 beta today and all i can say it is the greatest online shooter i have ever played and its on the beta and one map. there is a lot more action and you can easily get a lot more kills (so dont worry CoD fans). what they meant is that controlled bursts that are TOO FAST are just as bad as full auto. its FEEDBACK to Bad Company-2, and why is that? in BC2 you could have had a golden timing when you burst REALLY fast and your weapon has ZERO recoil... you absolutely can tap fire and burst it- but do it in short CONTROLLED burst, with a reasonable cooldown.

I believe you have misunderstood the article. They are not addressing the tapping and slow paced shooting which you referred to. They are addressing "Burst fire," which is a weapon firing rate that can be selected on certain weapons. The M16 is a very famous one that fired 3 shot bursts. THIS is what they are addressing. They are implementing this change because weapons like the M16 had virtually NO recoil when fired constantly even at very long distances.
What explained is exactly how it works. Sustained fire can be controlled because you can pull the rifle down after it reaches equilibrium after a few rounds. Burst fire is the first few rounds of recoil. Just because you arent firing fully auto doesn't mean there is no recoil.
I think on close range the burst firemode is the easiest to use..

Ummm.. Don't you know that no one in the military even uses the 3 shot burst on the m16. They wouldn't hit anything. I know first hand that the Army always fires the m16 on single shot. Especially at range.

well i thought that if you used the burst fire control instead of controlling your fire with automatic on that it would have like no recoil and when you control your fire when you have automatic on you would have alot of recoil... if that makes sense

I hate the bf3 beta, I hated the look of the bf3 demo and I figured I'd give it a try before I said anything negative, but I think the graphics are a little under developed and the game play is a little slow and that the menus are too distracting and crowded. At least I tried to like the game.

Playing the beta now and it seems the article is right, burst fire is dead in the beta. I did not get to play on the alpha so I cannot make any comparisons... but I am getting more kills shooting fully auto than on burst fire. (o.o)

What Gunns means is the fact that if u dont switch fire modes the recoil is more noticeable. I found that if I hit down on my d pad I was able to switch fire modes to either 2/3 round burst or 1 round fire mode which is more accurate than u just staying on full auto and trying to burst. Dont get mad at Gunns because he meant something that some of u guys didnt get it happens

Obviously Its a little misinformed but they did nerf the burst fire he is 50% correct burst fire isn't as effective as full auto because of the bullet spread not because of recoil I actually played beta with my friends.

They dud that because of the noobs in bad company 2 who used the M16 like a full auto rifle. That and they need a reason for people to use semi auto, which I have used in closed beta and it has visual recoil but no virtual recoil. In other words it looks like it has recoil but it actually doesnt at all

@thaHeartbreakid No they didn't nerf the recoil the nerfed the bullet spread you get from it the recoil is visual animation made to make the 3shot burst normal and not over powered.

Gunns you read it wrong when he is saying tap fire (if your obviously not aware) means pulling the trigger as fast as possible like people do with the fal in MW2 it has about the same recoil. but at the end he was saying burst fire yourself like hold the trigger for 2 or 3 shots repeat. If you tap fired as fast as full auto you would have a bigger spread? How do you tap fire faster than shooting a fully automatic? I spent most of my time playing black ops and less playing BFBC2. In black ops using the g11 or m16 which are three round burst you can't shoot faster than it allows you and that's always slower than full auto. The upside is three rounds go to one vital spot and kills the person mostly on the first three rounds.

been playing the BF3 beta today and all i can say it is the greatest online shooter i have ever played and its on the beta and one map. there is a lot more action and you can easily get a lot more kills (so dont worry CoD fans). I have to say it and i know a lot of ppl may not like it but its the truth, this game is 10x better than any CoD game i have ever played, MW3 is gonna have trouble against this game.

If you're so focused on realism, then you would know that the Marines, and most other military organizations prefer to have their rifle on semi-automatic almost all the time, as it offers much more accuracy than burst fire or fully automatic. If you're angry about long range accuracy, then focus on realism and switch the gun to semi-auto, which they included in the game for this exact reason. Pointless whine, Gunn. I thought you'd be happy that you can't just spam anymore, and you plan attacks.

Ok, they nerfed the burst fire so what? well you dont have to worry you can just change the firing mode by pressing the down button on the D-pad on consoles not sure for pc but it makes it easier for long range shots. :D

what they meant is that controlled bursts that are TOO FAST are just as bad as full auto. its FEEDBACK to Bad Company-2, and why is that? in BC2 you could have had a golden timing when you burst REALLY fast and your weapon has ZERO recoil... you absolutely can tap fire and burst it- but do it in short CONTROLLED burst, with a reasonable cooldown.

This was an easily misinterpreted message I read it a few a times but what he's saying Is if it is in burst mode and you shoot the weapon as fast as full auto you get the same recoil as full auto. Not that continued firing in full auto gives more recoil

If you think what he is saying is wrong then you obviously have no clue how an actual firearm reacts to the way you fire it, if you know how to control a firearm properly using burst fire you will have better accuracy than fully automatic even if your putting the same amount of rounds down range. It's common knowledge to receive input from multiple sources in order to reassure yourself that the news is in fact accurate. Gunns claims, in many of his videos, that he is the one conveying the news to us; but then again, it's also his responsibility to verify whether the news is accurate or not.

@Brentor14 I am playing it also, I said that DICE announced it. who knows what they are actually doing. I remember them changing BFBC2 a lot on the consoles after the beta. Things were changed even when people didn't want them to change certain things, they did it anyway.

I believe you have misunderstood the article. They are not addressing the tapping and slow paced shooting which you referred to. They are addressing "Burst fire," which is a weapon firing rate that can be selected on certain weapons. The M16 is a very famous one that fired 3 shot bursts. THIS is what they are addressing. They are implementing this change because weapons like the M16 had virtually NO recoil when fired constantly even at very long distances.

What explained is exactly how it works. Sustained fire can be controlled because you can pull the rifle down after it reaches equilibrium after a few rounds. Burst fire is the first few rounds of recoil. Just because you arent firing fully auto doesn't mean there is no recoil.
