  • such a good performer

  • Is this track about Ethopian Jews, or is it about those "Black Hebrew/Israelite" folks you see in major urban areas usually protesting something? (Or neither)?

  • The Ritz, Bournemouth, late 60's, great night

  • Great song from the late 60's. So sad that he passed away so young.

  • poder ska brones

  • I'm learning about this in social studies

  • quando i negri erano negri

  • I see Mod targets.

  • Oooooooohhhhhh Vitalite!

  • Kushite

  • screw happy holidays, merry CHRISTmas

  • 47 peoples ears are alight.

  • @Adeybaby100 maybe they dislikes the video, not the song.

  • Wasn't there a 10" ska version of this on the stiff label, with an incredible rhythm? Anybody know where I can get a copy???

  • Memoires! hearing my parents playing dis choon!

  • Happy Hanukah, everybody!

  • My Dad always thought that he was singing 'My ears are alight' :D

  • 13 MINDS

    Bsc

  • Can anyone explain what this song is about? Loved it ever since it came out but never knew who sang it! Love the dreads. Love Reggae. (btw, I am a white, 68 yr old granny!)

  • OOOOHHHHHHHH VITALITE. Stand with me people of the 80s!!

  • make me move the hips :-)

  • May be those of them who don't live in Africa remember that in past they lived in Africa, and then became slaves for white people in America etc. and they have to work hard and they don't live at their homeland, like israelites

  • Why do black people always talk about the israelites, they have nothin in common with jews...

They dont even have a torah book or jewish

  • @WipeTheNazis More in common than you know. It was with the nubian Egyptians Moses and Sarah sought refuge. It was also the nubian Egyptians Jacob, Joseph and his brothers appealed to during the famine. Solomon had storehouses in southern Egypt (Nubia) and the Queen of Sheeba is rumored to come from Nubia. In fact, Northern Ethiopia is home to African Jews known as Beta-Israel and is officially recognized by Israel. The more you know.

  • @hufnmouth

There are ethiopian jews in Israel ... i personally know such jews

But it doesnt say whole africa is jewish

    what is your refferrence ?

  • Does that mean that the Ethiopian Orthodox church is Jewish?

  • @Glaztone

No,since they have no jewish ancesry they're amharic

maybe a little of them were jews that converted to christianity.

  • Calm down, people. No need to fight here each other. Don't you have anything better to do? You gotta listen more songs of Desmond Dekker :)

  • @WipeTheNazis I think you're missing a little music/religious history here. African-American gospel songs were often pleas to God to free them as God had freed the Jews (not actually known as Israelites until after the Exodus). Africans had their own religious beliefs but were forced into Christianity in slavery. White pastors often read Bible verses to them that support slavery As a Jew,we don't take those literally.Nor do black Ethiopi- an Jews!.Study, Learn. It's GREAT Reggae/Gospel. Enjoy!

  • @JuliaGoldMarrry True! (from White, American, Christian - born, college student writing a paper on Rastafari lol...but sorry Bell Hooks: I have no white guilt- directly that it is)

  • Mod, skinhead, rudie, all together! 1969 forever! :)

  • Ppl.do u know the names of the other members of the group?

  • everyone just shutup before I have to start wasting people

  • Songs a Life memoir!

  • @TheLameStation don't agree. good music is still there you just have to look for it.

  • @TheLameStation nor fashion. Watch the style!

  • I love this song, the problem with the last 3 generations - who have been allowed todo what they want without recriminationation is they winge about everything. What we need to do is get back to good old victorian standards. You piss me off expect consequences - old school.

  • im pro no nuclear war

  • I thought black people were supposed to be able to dance.

  • @jasonpfinch They dont need to yall dancing to it for us

  • I remember when this came out. It sounded weird, different and exotic. I didn't know it was called ska. Didn't understand most of the lyrics. It was just so catchy. That was the great thing about that era. The other big ska breakthrough song was Double Barrel (I Am the Magnificent) by Dave & Ansell Collins. The artists were creative and imaginative then.

  • All y'all doody bags out there, listen up - THIS IS NOT SKA!!! It's rocksteady. This was the sound in Jamaica during the late 60s/early 70s. A precursor to reggae.

And what a snappy dresser our Desmond was!!! Well ahead of his time, I love that black and white body suit - and look at those flares!!! And there was an Indian shop which made and sold their own cheap ice lollies, 1d each - those were the days!!

  • this song reminds me of me getting into the skinhead culture .... Desmond you'll always have a place in my heart :)

  • @TheHangoverbois It sucks that skinhead culture has been taken over by neo-nazis. Dont worry, the new generation knows how to deliver a beating. FUCK NAZIS

  • @aleon3000 hahaha chiddy is a boss

  • Great song, great memories, but it should be 'ohh the Palestinians' they are the real people who are suffering. However of course, Desmond Dekker meant it in terms of the slavery that black people suffered.

  • Gwan Des

    WOW! What a great story!

    Love it man <3 xxx

  • GREAT TUNE TO START TODAY WITH :o)) <3

  • Here's a true story. When I was 6 yo my family lived in an apartment in Alexandria, VA. One day, my brother (7) and I, walking through the complex, found a 45 rpm record in someone's trash can. It was right on top. We took it home and played it and this is what song it was. It is an amazing song and I'm certainly glad we rescued a copy off of that trash heap 40 years ago.

  • Man kann noch so schlecht drauf sein, läuft Dekker, ist gleich alles im grünen bereicht, gute laune musik, probier es mal aus! Taked easy...
