  • I think you are an idiot dress like Amish and talk to the camera wtf. Why do you have all these videos trashing the Amish. I lived the Amish life for 18 years and a lot of what you say is stupid they are just trying to live a simple life.

  • You morons: If there ever were a God given inalienable right it would be to build one's home as you see fit. Get off the fluoride....

  • The problem here is the houses they are building. If they were building simple houses using the Ordnung and old technology then maybe they have an argument to be exempt. But look at what they are build....They use vinyl siding, insulation, sheetrock, and anderson windows. These houses were built like any other house and are ready for an "English" to move in except for electricity.

So if they want a house like this then follow the rules like the rest of us.

  • I have mixed feelings about building codes:

    a. If they are enacted so that upper middle class people can maintain property values for $700K homes by requiring 4 foot fences, manicured lawns, and brown paint, it's wrong.

    b. If they are enacted to protect people's lives (i.e. CA seismic code ), they have a legitimate purpose.

    c. I agree that many municipalities manipulate building codes as a source of income in tough economic times.

  • Thanks to the Yoders for your videos. : )

  • fuck building codes!!!!!!its ALL about MONEY

  • Nice fake beard. Where did you get it, at the dollar store?

  • McGuffy reader? I didn't know that book was still being used. Wasn't that required reading during the 1800s? Wow!

Good for you. Keep the record straight.

Hey, are you allowed to use such technology such as computers?

  • McGuffey reader started in 1836 and you can still buy them new on the internet at Amazon.

  • building code suck sometimes... gee wounder why there are lots of 100 year old barns still standing?? overbuilt, built strong, with no plans just common sense..

  • So do they agree that the Amish should follow the building codes? or Not?

  • yea im a little PA Dutch but i never knew the history of the ppl thanks for sharing

  • This couple have left the Amish sect that they were brought up in. If you look at their web site you will see the struggles that their family had endured. The beard in question, in my view, is a visual mark. They try to educate the population on the "flip side" of this particular Amish sect.

  • Thanks so much for this thorough explanation! When my uncle traveled to Germany he said the German words sounded very similar to English quite often.

  • I worked for a born-again Christian who didn't think he had to obey man's laws, just God's laws. He did not pay into the workers' compensation system in Canada. When a bunch of his workers got injured on the job, their medical expenses were not covered by the government system. He fully expected that the spirit of the Lord would move them to get out of bed and come back to work even though one guy had 16 stitches in his head. He did time for tax evasion.

  • This is a good video. Thanks for posting it. When building codes effect health, they are in place for a reason.
