Im 16 and im about to get a truck in a few days and I was wondering if I went to a exhaust shop what would I have to tell them if I wanted the same sound as yours because im clueless....
Nice truck. wish my 87 was an 01 haha. but hey it still says dodge on the front, and that's all that matters. ill drive it till the wheels fall off. because im sure they wont.
good mother of God... that is the most amazing sounding truck ive ever heard!!! best part is that its a Dodge!!! but since the truck is a 2001, they still hook it up to smog detectors regaurdless of if theres a cat there or not, how did you still pass emitions with the gutted cat??
I love all your vids on this truck...that there is a REAL truck. I am having trouble though understanding the diff between the flowmaster 44's and 50hd? any help?
The super 44 is a much smaller cased muffler than the 50 HD. The super 44 is going to give you A LOT more interior and exterior sound compared to the 50 HD. The 50 HD isn't a bad muffler, in fact it has 4" internals, it just depends on what type of sound your looking for. Clearly you can see from this video that the Super 44 is very loud lol..
@01DodgeRam360 I think i am going to go with the super 44's. Now what kinda tips do you have and whats the diameter? Also my truck is a bone stock 08 hemi ram - whats the advantage of a x pipe or h-pipe. ? I just want something mean sounding and loud. I realise i dont have headers but i want the best i can get with what i got. Thanks in advance!
The tips I ran in this video are 4" in diameter and are 22" long; they were made by Maganflow. As far as an h-pipe and an x-pipe, you will only need those if your going to run a true dual set-up (two mufflers). If you run two mufflers I would choose an x-pipe; they do a better job at scavenging the exhaust and balancing out the exhaust tone. However, in this video I am only running one muffler (a single inlet/dual outlet super 44).
@PhoenixBird1995 only thing it messes up is emissions and turns engine light on. learn to spell. if there is a sensor after the cat (there will always be one before) you can move it further down the exhaust. trial and error, extending the bung out so the o2 sensor isnt in the pipe but still gets hot enough to get a readon works too.
@potatoepoop69 yea it is better but when you do that your truck will no longer pass inspection......so you gut it and they cant say you cant pass it....
@01DodgeRam360 So, in inspections, do they actually check for the cat? I'm not exactly sure how it works, obviously they check to make sure it is still there...but for instance, if there was a gutted cat on your truck, does it still pass inspection? I'm in NC if that makes a difference.
@rednecksniper357 hmmm thats kind of weird that your 02 sensor is in your cat. you could do what this guy did and just gut the cat so it looks legal. i talked to my friend who owns a miata, he deleted his cat and it didnt have an 02 sensor there and neither does my celica.
@rednecksniper357 hmmm thats kind of weird that your 02 sensor is in your cat. you could do what this guy did and just gut the cat so it looks legal. i talked to my friend who owns a miata, he deleted his cat and it didnt have an 02 sensor there and neither does my celica.
@potatoepoop69 On this year of Dodge both o2 sensors are threaded into the cat, so cutting it out would require finding a way to position the o2 sensors in the new pipe. Probably just as easy to cut the old car apart and gut it,
Im not even joking i have the exact same truck but mines a 2000 and its got about the same lift as yours, and it sound awesome pulling my boat outa the water
what is the whole exhaust lay out from motor the the rear?.. cause i have a 99 with JBA shorties and super 44 si/do w/ the catalytic converter still on, so i was wondering if it would sound the same if i took my cat off? thx
Hey, do you know how difficult it is to change gears for different ratios. I would like a higher ratio for a little while just for fun but would like the stock ones on later. Thanks
@BadBarrBoys Well Both axles (assuming it's 4wd) can easily be done in a day. Generally the off-road shops in my area charge around $200 an axle. I don't see the need to go through paying another $400 just to change the ratio back to stock though. Also, I wouldn't try to change the gears myself unless you have the proper tools and know-how.
@youdragon cut into it some people call it a window then u just start hittin on it till it all falls out then weld the peice u cut out back on to seal it up
After you gut the cat did you notice anything happen? anything bad? check engine light, started dumping more gas when the check engine light comes on then it doesnt read other things, did you notice any problems?
yeah i have glasspacks right now and i am tired of this popping they give me now i am going to put flowmaster super 44's on. will i get that annoying popping cause you kinda had it
Sounds great. Is that the umo plate ? I live in bucksport. I just bought a durango 5.2 and i just got a red hot glasspack from vip it was only 20 bucks i know they dont last long but w/e, soo im gonna throw that on and i'm thinking about gutting the cat too. my friend just got a '98 grand cherokee limted with the 5.9 and he got a red hot glasspack too and he wants to gut the cat soo it should sound something like this, mine too, since the 318 and the 360 dont really sound much different.
hmm. ya what i ended up doing with the exhaust was i just went to a shop and had them fabricate a y pipe to replace the muffler, i would really like to get a true dual exhaust. i was also thinking about getting rid of the cat and then puttin some ceramic headers on it, but its really expensive. ill try and upload a vid of it soon, including my bitchen sound system!
Well, assuming you own a ram with the hemi motor, you should have two cats. If you think they are clogged up, you can buy ones from a company called 21stcenturyexhaust. They have the best prices on all exhaust components. Their number is 561-588-1580. Tell them you want two magnaflow catalytic converters with a 2.5" inlet/outlet. IT should cost less than $150 for both.
@G3TLOOSHemi - that would be completely removing it. gutting it means tearing all of the insides of the cat out with sumthing handy that you have. after you knock all that stuff out taht looks like a beehive you put it back on.
To sneaky bastart59, if you want something that in my opinion doesnt cost too much (200-300 dollars tops) get a new cam, they help out so much, I havent got one on yet, I have helped 3 of my friends do it and it adds a lot of power for the money you spend, hope this helped
Thanks man. Yes, it did get louder after the headers were installed. It actually got a little too out of control after the headers with the gutted cat, started to crackle too much. So I put the universal magnaflow catalytic converter back on and it smoothed it up, but still sounded nasty.
Hey that sounds dame good here soon i will have my video on here of my dodge u will have to check it out i am running true duel's and it's pretty dame loud the cop's don't care 4 it but i do u know what they say if it's to loud your to old lol....
I really like this. i have a 99 F-150 with the 5.4. I hacked the muffler off but the cats are still on. it doesnt really have different tones like yours does. and did you notice any difference in sound after you gutted your cat(s)? thanks
i love the sound on that! im gonna get a super 44 and 4x12 tips... but im having problems finding the right performance parts for my 1999 ram... it just seems sluggish... even after a dual exhause volant cold air intake, throttle body spacer and hypertech programer... any tips?
The most effective and noticable performance modification you can do to a pickup truck is swapping out the differential gears. More than likely you have 3.55 gearing, which is aimed towards fuel economy and low rpms on the highway. However, if you're looking to wake your truck up so it won't dog up hills and be able to take off from the line, get a set of 4.10 gearing if you have tires below 35" tires. Get 4.56 gearing if you have 35" tires.
what do u think is the best exhaust system to put on a 5.2 liter.... I want my truck to be loud but idk if i should go with the flowmaster 40 or 44, and if i should go with the one in two out muffler or if it would still sound good without dual pipes?? If anybody says guttin the cat is a good idea ill go for it, plz help me out!!
In this video I did not have the long tube headers yet. Looking back at it, I didn't really see any substantial gains with the headers. In reality, you aren't really going to benefit noticeable power with bolt-ons until you begin opening the motor up and increasing compression, changing out camshafts, and boring out intake manifolds etc. It defiantly made the truck sound much meaner, and gave the truck a slight mid-range boost, but nothing worth all the hassle.
what brand and whats the mufflers ((if any?)) only reason i ask is because i have a 96 with 5.2 with will interchange with 5.9 and i was debating the pasecetters, headman, and edelbrock long tubes. i have magnaflow 14 in mufflers and a full intake from the filter to the mannifold. i love the way yours sounds i was thinking about gutting the cat but wasnt sure if check engine light would come on. thanks so much
The headers I wound up selecting were the ceramic coated long tube headers made by Pacesetter. The pacesetters also come with the matching 3" y-pipe, so I bought that as well. Gave a slight increase in power, and made the truck sound ridiculous.
nice truck man, im lookin at a '98 360 and i heard they are too much shit for the auto tranny's but this is a 5 speed do they handle the power better? its got 70,000 on it, so should i be in good shape for awhile?
Dodge didnt make a 2nd gen. 5.9l truck with a 5 speed (NV3500). Dont let them tell you its a 5.9 when its a 5.2. Lots of dealers will tell you that to try & sell a truck.
That being said, If you dont go around dumping the clutch all day, the NV3500 is a great transmission. If you were to drive both a auto & a manual like you should ( not trying to destroy it) the NV3500 will outlast the auto ten fold.
It's removing the catalytic converter, removing anything inside of it, and then installing it back into the exhaust system. This way the truck doesn't have a cat, but gives the illusion that it does.
A 98 will have an OBDII ECU so to eliminate the cat you either need an O2 simulator or an ECU performance tune. I suggest the tune so it will let you use more available motor potential. You should get yourself some headers (shorty if you want the easiest install and longtube for most power and sound) then a mandrel bent y-pipe then a high flow cat, then a si/do muffler and either dumps or 2.5" tails with some nice tips like 3.5"x24" give off a nice deep tone.
As for exhaust cutouts, they usually run about $200 each. You should run yours just after the Y-pipe or crossover if you decide to go true duals, that will make the deepest sound and still be very loud with no cat or muffler. Plus if you go with a single into dual exhaust, it's the best setup for torque for a low compression and low rpm motor like your truck and you'll only need 1 cutout instead of 2.
I'm guessing you have a single outlet muffler and want to keep it am I right? If that's the case then order a universal y-pipe from Summit, Jegs or wherever, Flowmaster makes one along with Dynomax and some other companies. I'm not sure what exhaust size is but make sure if you order one to get the inlet and outlet sizes right and check to see which they list as the inlet, they could have it as the single or dual part. Or have an exhaust shop make one then get 2 tails with tips and you're good.
if you gut the cat the engine will work always in the same way?? i mean, gutting the cat might cause some engines problems?? i'm thinkin of gutting my cat but i'm italian and i don't know much about dodge engines....
It's not uncommon for an engine to run poorly after you gut the cat. Often times it destroys the oxygen sensors, causing the truck to run lean, idle rough, get bad gas mileage, and smell terrible. At first my truck ran fine, but after I installed the headers, I had to replace the 02 sensor. Then I just said screw it, and put a magnaflow highflow cat on, wasn't worth the hassle.
Open your exhaust valves? They open on every car otherwise it wouldn't run. Do you mean you have exhaust cutouts?
And I don't recommend removing the cat on these trucks unless you get an ECU tune as they get bad enough mileage. My uncle's EFI Magnum 318 gets as bad of mileage as my cammed 4bbl 350 in the 87 with a torque converter that won't lock up so the mileage is extra bad.
no...with openin' the valves i mean that i will fully open the exhaust...by the way... do you have an idea of how much can costs to me puttin' cutouts or headers???
Lol, that was my little brother chewing up a storm...he knows I hate that sound, he loves messing with me. Yes she's very loud in person, almost too loud at times...
Yes, it freed up a little bit of horsepower, but most importantly, it definitely made the truck noticeably louder and meaner sounder. I will admit, it droned too much for my taste, and I put a new magnaflow cat back on the truck.
did u notice any mpg difference? im thinkin bout gutted or no cat and true dual glasspacks if i could get a o2 sensor fooler cuz i dont watn a check engine light. your truck is my favorite on youtube esp with the headers and all. i want my truck to sound like tht
I'm doubtful as to if the exhaust is legal, but fortunately I know some nice mechanics who look the other way. In this video, all it is was is a gutted cat and a flowmaster super 44 muffler, not too bad.
The lift was a 3" spacer in the front, and 2.5" AAL in the rear. Was overall 5". I no longer have the lift anymore, but it came with the truck, so I don't know how much it all cost, sorry.
im not raggin on your, truck,i think your truck is kick ass and the best one ive seen on here,i was just sayin to the other guy that maybe you didnt get a cummins is cause their so expensive
its a dodge gas in the 01-06 range, of course he didnt have money, sounds nice and all but the 01-06 trucks were just terribly built and i couldnt stand them, the cummins were pussied out for a while there too
The whole notion that I have this truck because "I didn't have the money" is downright ignorant. I'm 19 years old with a beautiful truck. I'm very lucky to have it, and I'm lucky to have been able to money into it to make it better than most..
Puddelz69 don't be an ass. I have the same truck and with 120,xxx miles on it, it's still worth $7,000 so for us teens thats still a lot of money...not to mention for anyone right now considering the economic condition. Plus, he put on another $500 or so just for the exhaust. Saying "of course he didn't have money" is an ignorant and non-intelligent thing to say.
Nice truck man. looks just like my truck. 5" 35's. Your exhaust sounds like mine also. I got true duals high flow cats no mufflers and 3.5" tips. check out my vids.
sounds like my dart lol 360 small block can be fucking mean as hell if there built right, like mine all the parts are after market and that car fuckin screams.
Im 16 and im about to get a truck in a few days and I was wondering if I went to a exhaust shop what would I have to tell them if I wanted the same sound as yours because im clueless....

To sneaky bastart59, if you want something that in my opinion doesnt cost too much (200-300 dollars tops) get a new cam, they help out so much, I havent got one on yet, I have helped 3 of my friends do it and it adds a lot of power for the money you spend, hope this helped

Thanks alot ill look into it, cause now that i put some 35's on it, it deffinately seems more sluggish, but looks alot more badass with the big tires

sounds awesome, after you put the headers on it did it sound better or get much louder?
V8Dodge94 2 years ago
Thanks man. Yes, it did get louder after the headers were installed. It actually got a little too out of control after the headers with the gutted cat, started to crackle too much. So I put the universal magnaflow catalytic converter back on and it smoothed it up, but still sounded nasty.

Hey that sounds dame good here soon i will have my video on here of my dodge u will have to check it out i am running true duel's and it's pretty dame loud the cop's don't care 4 it but i do u know what they say if it's to loud your to old lol....

nice vid! i've got a 99 ram that i'm putting 44's on. and your pickup looks awesome and sounds sick!!!
MarkOfTheRam 2 years ago
I really like this. i have a 99 F-150 with the 5.4. I hacked the muffler off but the cats are still on. it doesnt really have different tones like yours does. and did you notice any difference in sound after you gutted your cat(s)? thanks
CATZR600BRAAAAAP 2 years ago
i love the sound on that! im gonna get a super 44 and 4x12 tips... but im having problems finding the right performance parts for my 1999 ram... it just seems sluggish... even after a dual exhause volant cold air intake, throttle body spacer and hypertech programer... any tips?
SneakyBastrd59 2 years ago

Jakeracer434 2 years ago
did you have the headers in this vid too or no? was the headers worth the money? did they make alot more power?
tommy0973 2 years ago
In this video I did not have the long tube headers yet. Looking back at it, I didn't really see any substantial gains with the headers. In reality, you aren't really going to benefit noticeable power with bolt-ons until you begin opening the motor up and increasing compression, changing out camshafts, and boring out intake manifolds etc. It defiantly made the truck sound much meaner, and gave the truck a slight mid-range boost, but nothing worth all the hassle.
01DodgeRam360 2 years ago
what brand and whats the mufflers ((if any?)) only reason i ask is because i have a 96 with 5.2 with will interchange with 5.9 and i was debating the pasecetters, headman, and edelbrock long tubes. i have magnaflow 14 in mufflers and a full intake from the filter to the mannifold. i love the way yours sounds i was thinking about gutting the cat but wasnt sure if check engine light would come on. thanks so much
tommy0973 2 years ago
The headers I wound up selecting were the ceramic coated long tube headers made by Pacesetter. The pacesetters also come with the matching 3" y-pipe, so I bought that as well. Gave a slight increase in power, and made the truck sound ridiculous.
01DodgeRam360 2 years ago
the truck sounds fuckin sick im about to get some S44's for my Ram...

nice truck man, im lookin at a '98 360 and i heard they are too much shit for the auto tranny's but this is a 5 speed do they handle the power better? its got 70,000 on it, so should i be in good shape for awhile?
sugrshan3 3 years ago
The manuals are said to have no problems like the automatics.
01DodgeRam360 3 years ago
Dodge didnt make a 2nd gen. 5.9l truck with a 5 speed (NV3500). Dont let them tell you its a 5.9 when its a 5.2. Lots of dealers will tell you that to try & sell a truck.
That being said, If you dont go around dumping the clutch all day, the NV3500 is a great transmission. If you were to drive both a auto & a manual like you should ( not trying to destroy it) the NV3500 will outlast the auto ten fold.
L324RT12 3 years ago
nice truck, Can someone please tell me what gutting the cat means is it just taking the baffles out of your exhaust or what
McKinney1500 3 years ago
It's removing the catalytic converter, removing anything inside of it, and then installing it back into the exhaust system. This way the truck doesn't have a cat, but gives the illusion that it does.
01DodgeRam360 3 years ago
hey if you gut the cat and put it back on eventually the sensors and everything will go bad still wont it???
99DodgeRam360v8 3 years ago
A 98 will have an OBDII ECU so to eliminate the cat you either need an O2 simulator or an ECU performance tune. I suggest the tune so it will let you use more available motor potential. You should get yourself some headers (shorty if you want the easiest install and longtube for most power and sound) then a mandrel bent y-pipe then a high flow cat, then a si/do muffler and either dumps or 2.5" tails with some nice tips like 3.5"x24" give off a nice deep tone.
snakesonaplane2 3 years ago
As for exhaust cutouts, they usually run about $200 each. You should run yours just after the Y-pipe or crossover if you decide to go true duals, that will make the deepest sound and still be very loud with no cat or muffler. Plus if you go with a single into dual exhaust, it's the best setup for torque for a low compression and low rpm motor like your truck and you'll only need 1 cutout instead of 2.
snakesonaplane2 3 years ago
hey do you know anything about y pipes cuz i wanna put a y pipe on mine so it looks like duels but i dont really know anything about it
-thanks
99DodgeRam360v8 3 years ago
I'm guessing you have a single outlet muffler and want to keep it am I right? If that's the case then order a universal y-pipe from Summit, Jegs or wherever, Flowmaster makes one along with Dynomax and some other companies. I'm not sure what exhaust size is but make sure if you order one to get the inlet and outlet sizes right and check to see which they list as the inlet, they could have it as the single or dual part. Or have an exhaust shop make one then get 2 tails with tips and you're good.
snakesonaplane2 3 years ago
if you gut the cat the engine will work always in the same way?? i mean, gutting the cat might cause some engines problems?? i'm thinkin of gutting my cat but i'm italian and i don't know much about dodge engines....
eltragonwithestilo 3 years ago
It's not uncommon for an engine to run poorly after you gut the cat. Often times it destroys the oxygen sensors, causing the truck to run lean, idle rough, get bad gas mileage, and smell terrible. At first my truck ran fine, but after I installed the headers, I had to replace the 02 sensor. Then I just said screw it, and put a magnaflow highflow cat on, wasn't worth the hassle.
01DodgeRam360 3 years ago
thanks very much...so...i'm not gonna gut my cat no more thanks of you...i'll just open the exhaust valves...
eltragonwithestilo 3 years ago
are the highflow cat's realy worth it? I got a Thrush glasspack on my dodge and i was wondering if you liked the highflow cat's or not
99dodge1500Ram 3 years ago
Open your exhaust valves? They open on every car otherwise it wouldn't run. Do you mean you have exhaust cutouts?
And I don't recommend removing the cat on these trucks unless you get an ECU tune as they get bad enough mileage. My uncle's EFI Magnum 318 gets as bad of mileage as my cammed 4bbl 350 in the 87 with a torque converter that won't lock up so the mileage is extra bad.
snakesonaplane2 3 years ago
no...with openin' the valves i mean that i will fully open the exhaust...by the way... do you have an idea of how much can costs to me puttin' cutouts or headers???
eltragonwithestilo 3 years ago
it depends on the year mines a 95 with true duals no cat no muffler and mine runs just fine

01DodgeRam360 3 years ago
did gutting the cats help anything? was it worth it?
tommy0973 3 years ago
Yes, it freed up a little bit of horsepower, but most importantly, it definitely made the truck noticeably louder and meaner sounder. I will admit, it droned too much for my taste, and I put a new magnaflow cat back on the truck.
01DodgeRam360 3 years ago
did u notice any mpg difference? im thinkin bout gutted or no cat and true dual glasspacks if i could get a o2 sensor fooler cuz i dont watn a check engine light. your truck is my favorite on youtube esp with the headers and all. i want my truck to sound like tht

Sounds awesome Is this exhaust legal ? I want to get one for mine
Joey400ex 3 years ago
I'm doubtful as to if the exhaust is legal, but fortunately I know some nice mechanics who look the other way. In this video, all it is was is a gutted cat and a flowmaster super 44 muffler, not too bad.
01DodgeRam360 3 years ago
man if u want it to sound really good take tht shitty muffler off flowmaster sux would rather have no muffler at all sounds much better

how big is the lift in your truck and how much was it?
86k20 3 years ago
The lift was a 3" spacer in the front, and 2.5" AAL in the rear. Was overall 5". I no longer have the lift anymore, but it came with the truck, so I don't know how much it all cost, sorry.

im not raggin on your, truck,i think your truck is kick ass and the best one ive seen on here,i was just sayin to the other guy that maybe you didnt get a cummins is cause their so expensive

a 24valve cummins is a much better truck to buy if ur buying a dodgeram
sanitizer666 3 years ago
maybe he didnt have the money for a cummins
knicholas83107 3 years ago
its a dodge gas in the 01-06 range, of course he didnt have money, sounds nice and all but the 01-06 trucks were just terribly built and i couldnt stand them, the cummins were pussied out for a while there too
Puddelz69 3 years ago
The whole notion that I have this truck because "I didn't have the money" is downright ignorant. I'm 19 years old with a beautiful truck. I'm very lucky to have it, and I'm lucky to have been able to money into it to make it better than most..
01DodgeRam360 3 years ago
Puddelz69 don't be an ass. I have the same truck and with 120,xxx miles on it, it's still worth $7,000 so for us teens thats still a lot of money...not to mention for anyone right now considering the economic condition. Plus, he put on another $500 or so just for the exhaust. Saying "of course he didn't have money" is an ignorant and non-intelligent thing to say.
