i see. i might invest in the looper line six. but i do need this delay as well haha. and im getting the mm4 thursday. l'll probably end up with them all lol
I'm afraid not. The DL4 is a delay pedal. Your amp should have a pedal designed to change the amp channel. O you can buy latch switches like a Boss FS-5U that can switch channels for you
does the dl4 allow polyrhythmic looping? is it possible to record a loop and overdub something for a shorter duration such that it'll be out of sync? or do all overdubs have to start and end at the same time the previous loops do?
actually to my knowledge your overdubs are confined to the duration of the first layer. the overdub won't be it's own loop because the DL4 automatically starts the next layer after the duration of the first layer. so your LAYER 2 might be a 10 beat riff and your LAYER 1 might be an 8 beat riff but LAYER 2 will automatically get cut off at beat 8 and beats 9 and 10 will be recorded over beats 1 and 2. i hope that made sense haha.
haha no problem. well you should check out the jam man by digitech. i don't know if it does what you want it to but there's a lot more functions than most compact loopers. the DL4 is still a great pedal though. i use the half speed and reverse function a lot for the loop. definitely a pedal worth checking out as well.
nevermind, anyway i wanted to thank you so much for your vids cause they helped me really a lot since i couldn't find any comparisons of guitar pedals like your doing. so keep the great work up and good luck with your band
Hah i sottd up as the fourth layer of the loop is played really high up the fret board and I couldnt get into the chord in the position i was sittin, you can see me try then I stand up.
im still confused how did you overlap the sounds then have the same tune keep going without you doing any thing i no your not using a pedal but do you no if there is 1
I am using the loo function on the Line 6 DL4. I press record then record the initial loop. I then hit record again, it will repeat the first loop I recorded over again and allow me to add more and more loops each time I hit the button whilst repeating whatever I have played previous
Hahah na, the other two guitarists r very very good players. I love playing in a band with 3 guitarists, we sound huge live as a result. All of us use Mesa Boogies (Tremoverb, Roadking and Tri Axis) in our live rigs, sounds very good. Loopers are cool however
Haha hardly likely seeing as I am probably the least technically proficient of the three of us! Loopers are cool, but human beings holding guitars are better.
there is a not so famous guitar brand called Bach. Realy good guitars. personally i think they are a lot better than epi for the same price. check it out
I wasnt buying a loop pedal. The Loop Function on the DL4 was just an added bonus that I started messing about on. I use it one track of my bands called 'Never Run With Scissors' Mt band doesnt require alot of looping as we hav 3 guitarists.
I havent bought the epression pedal, it has been somehting I hav been looking ito trying. As for the volume issue, it is a problem with the DL4 overall the slight volume drop. If you have it Keeley modified it removes thi problem. I dont really have that problem when looping tho. Make sure the mix level is up full before you loop dude.
do you reccomend ths pedal because my style is much like Howie Days and I'm starting to get stuff for a pedal board and stuff I'm doing solo acoustic gigs right now
hahaha i loved the comment about the PRS singlecut being better than Gibson, that is SO true! Gibson is falling short of their old quality control standards lately and PRS is a solid, reliable guitar. I love them. There's NOTHING wrong with Epiphone for a backup. Some of them are actually not too shabby.
Its true, I have a stock Epiphone SG G-400 and its one of the best guitars I've played, and yes I'm one of those people who go into guitar center and try out every single guitar they won't be able to buy. xD anywho, I compared my guitar to my friends Gibson LP (yes different model and what not but very similar) and they sound almost interchangeable.
I agree. I have several Epi LPś a few of which have been modified and they stand up well against most Gibsons I have played recently. The PRS Singlecut slays them all tho!!
both Pick ups will fit in your guitar holes, the diference is in the space between the pick up poles, the F spaced are for guitars with floyd rose bridges, so the regular pick up is the indicated for your LP
All my LP's r epiphones osme have seymour duncan pickups some hav dimarzios, most hav had eelctronics replaced in some way. My main guitar is PRS singlecut tho, the LP's I use as backups and alt tunings guitars
what spacing did you get for the epiphone lp standard? regular or f-spaced? just wondering what would be a perfect fit for my epiphone lp standard, i measured both bridge and neck and they differ thats why i'm a bit confused what to get...tnx!
I have no idea dude, sorry, i last ordered pickups back when Seymour Duncan had their own distibution and website here in the UK so i just emialed them explaining what I wanted and they sent it out, now Aria (i think) distribute in the UK for them. Best seaking to ur local guitar shop dude
how long have you own your dl4? cause iv'e heard a lot of horrible stories about the dl4's reliability, i'm just wondering if its true cause i also plan to get one in the future...pretty cool pedal imo...
I get asked that alot dude. I have had mine for about 2 years I think, its gigged and taken to rehearsals a few times a week for the last few years, nvr had any probs with it. Only issue is power, its a juice monster, I would always run it off mains. Check out the Nova Delay aswell I bought one of those great delay unit.
Its a tough one dude. The build quality and finish on the Gibbo is gonna be better, but sound wise I would say yeh my modified Epi's sound betetr than stock gibsons I have played. Its very much subjective and there r many variables, such as the model, the pickups and the rig ur running it thru. If I bought a gibson i would make the same mods anyways. But wouldnt buy a gibson at the moment, build quality is porr for the money.
gibson makes pretty good pickups, and since the wood in the gibson is much higher quality than the epiphone, i would have to say no. but it all depends on what pickups you put in and your style.
Hey, great song. The loops sound amazing together.
Got a couple of questions about the dl4 though.
The specs say that the loop effect only has a 14 second memory? Is that per loop I take it? And also how many loops can you have on the go at the same time?
It has a 14 second memory yeh, but if you put it in half speed mode b4 u loop u can get 28 secs out of it, like i do in the parts 2 and 3 of this vid. U can loop infintely dude, add as many or as few layers as u like. You cant however stop or start individal loops, its basically a sound on sound looper. The DL4 is primarily as delay pedal, the loop function is fairly limited, so wouldnt buy it as a loop, b better off with a TC electronics nova delay + one of the boss rc series loopers!
I liek Epiphones dude, if your lucky with the build quailty they can be good guitars. I tend to replac the electronics dude, usually with Seymour Duncan pickups. My main guitar is a PRS Singlecut which I play thru a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb and a Hiwatt 100, u can defo hear and feel the difference in this setup to using a stock Epi. Depends what level of playing u are at, and what other gear u are using in ur rig! On the whole i love my Epi's once modified
A harmony is a set of notes that compliment anotehr ste of notes. A riff moved by 3 frets is a harmony in 3rds and up 5 frets is in 5ths. You dont have to use set rule slike the same riff up x number of frets. Its just about finding two groups of notes that compliment each other
Its one of my bands songs dude. Was in a song called 'Fortune Unknown' but this secton has been cut and is going into another one of our newer tunes.
Wierd. I probaly watched this vid of yours a couple months a go - which is why it rings a bell. Was checking out your RV5 demo back in December, which I've since bought and use all the time. (Mod 'verb / Max decay / MAx Level - loverly)
Cool man, I play the same riff in one of the RV-5 vids. The RV-5 is awesome eh!! I love it. I just bought myself a TC Nova Delay and a Moogfooger Analog Phaser so I will hopefully stick some demo vids up of them soon. Get posting urself dude, get some RV-5 vids up!! Cheers
The Truth hurts is a cool track dude. Sounds abit like the bastard love child of a fourway between The Doves, U2(when they were good), Mogwai and Sigur Ros. Which can only be a good thing!
Its a cool pedal. Take your timing getting to kno it tho. Takes alot twaeking. Sit down with the manual and your guitar and go thru each of the presets and learn what the knobs do!
Chorus should come b4 delay in my opinion yeh. Reverb always last, delay second last in the chain. Personally I would have them connected to the fx loop of my amps. So guitar - > amp, then amp send -> CE-3 input -> DL4 output to amp return. That make sense?
Yes. I sometimes do that when practicing lead work. Record and loop a backing guitar track or two, then solo over it without recording what I am playing.
Yup, tap tempo allows u to change to the timing of ur delay to match up with the bpm of the song u are playing. Meaning all the delay repeats will be in time with what u are playing along to.
I prefer this to setting a numerical delay time as when playing live timings somethimes change, unless ur drummer uses a metronome or click track.
Hey man, the DL4 and DD-20 have a load of similar features a few features the other one doesnt have. The main difference people pick up on is the DD-20 allows you to dial in an exact delay time i.e 300ms, the DL4 doesnt allow you to do that, its a feature I odnt reuire as I just use the tap tempo button instead. I have DD-3's on my board, those r good for basic clean digital delay tones but are limited, so you cannot really compare the DD-3 or DD-6, or the older models to the DL4.
I recommend having a go of the DL4 and DD-20 at your local store and seeing which one ticks the most boxes for what you require in a delay pedal. Also have a look at the TC Electronics Nova Delay
I think the DL4 is more versatile, but the RE-20 is awesome I am looking to add one to my board at some point. Its more for vintage delay tones like tube echo's and tape echo for that Gilmour type tone. The DL4 can do this to an extend but has many other features the Boss pedal doesnt. Really depends on the sort of delay you are looking fo dude.
Afraid not, just practice dude. Keep your foot tapping, or play to a metronome at first. Timing is a natural thing for some folk, and others need to practice at it, so just keep playing and it will come.
Its one of my bands songs, it was originally in a song called 'Fortune Unknown' but I replaced it with another riff, which there is a clip of, its on a vid of the line6 DL4 called modulation delay example or something like that.
Its been used in a new song called 'We Dont Do That Here'

so basically, if i wanted to record a quick loop of a clean line, then save it to a preset, i would be able to call it up at any time?
mrpeanut268 1 year ago
Yup, but only one preset. And you would have to leave it on the loop function meaning you have limited access to delay modes.
There might be better units out there for this kinda of smapling use your looking for

is it just the normal riff but moved up 3 or 5 frets?
ic300x 4 years ago
A harmony is a set of notes that compliment anotehr ste of notes. A riff moved by 3 frets is a harmony in 3rds and up 5 frets is in 5ths. You dont have to use set rule slike the same riff up x number of frets. Its just about finding two groups of notes that compliment each other

What's that song? It's on the tip o' me tongue....

BlueKidJ 4 years ago
Cool man, I play the same riff in one of the RV-5 vids. The RV-5 is awesome eh!! I love it. I just bought myself a TC Nova Delay and a Moogfooger Analog Phaser so I will hopefully stick some demo vids up of them soon. Get posting urself dude, get some RV-5 vids up!! Cheers

The Truth hurts is a cool track dude. Sounds abit like the bastard love child of a fourway between The Doves, U2(when they were good), Mogwai and Sigur Ros. Which can only be a good thing!
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
When (in your opinion) did U2 stop being good? Which album?
gilbertgodlyddd 4 years ago
i personally think U2 is still pretty good, just too mainstream.
XxSconeManxX 4 years ago
Hmm, Yeah I really like what the edge does with echo and things, too much normal riffery in the latest albums. but it's still good stuff.
gilbertgodlyddd 4 years ago
SO just because it´s mainstream means it´s bad?
rokkenroll 3 years ago
Eh....U2 still write killer songs and singles, but their albums are poor. Last good full album in my ook Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby

birdonawi 4 years ago
Its a cool pedal. Take your timing getting to kno it tho. Takes alot twaeking. Sit down with the manual and your guitar and go thru each of the presets and learn what the knobs do!
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
i will!!!! thanx again

another question. i have a BOSS chorus CE-3.
should i put it before the delay or after? in terms of conection. guitar -chorus - DL4 - amp? or the other?
birdonawi 4 years ago
Chorus should come b4 delay in my opinion yeh. Reverb always last, delay second last in the chain. Personally I would have them connected to the fx loop of my amps. So guitar - > amp, then amp send -> CE-3 input -> DL4 output to amp return. That make sense?
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
question: once i make the loop, can i play without adding layers to it? and just use the loop as background?
birdonawi 4 years ago
Yes. I sometimes do that when practicing lead work. Record and loop a backing guitar track or two, then solo over it without recording what I am playing.
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
hey
does the loop function have to do with anything with tap tempo?
i have no clue what tap tempo is can u explain what it is?
StanwoodSpartans 4 years ago
Yup, tap tempo allows u to change to the timing of ur delay to match up with the bpm of the song u are playing. Meaning all the delay repeats will be in time with what u are playing along to.
I prefer this to setting a numerical delay time as when playing live timings somethimes change, unless ur drummer uses a metronome or click track.

I'm thinking of getting this, but I'm deciding this between the DD pedals from boss.
I've read better reviews from the Boss ones but...
Any tips bro?
Zenstrummer 4 years ago
Hey man, the DL4 and DD-20 have a load of similar features a few features the other one doesnt have. The main difference people pick up on is the DD-20 allows you to dial in an exact delay time i.e 300ms, the DL4 doesnt allow you to do that, its a feature I odnt reuire as I just use the tap tempo button instead. I have DD-3's on my board, those r good for basic clean digital delay tones but are limited, so you cannot really compare the DD-3 or DD-6, or the older models to the DL4.
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
I recommend having a go of the DL4 and DD-20 at your local store and seeing which one ticks the most boxes for what you require in a delay pedal. Also have a look at the TC Electronics Nova Delay
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
hey, just wondering, u putting the DL4 straight into the front of your flextone, or you putting it in through the effects loop
killswitchcraig 4 years ago
I always have it in the fx loop, as with other delay, reverb and modulation effects dude.
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
i'm debating on getting this, or the boss re-20... any tips out there folks?
harbringer28 4 years ago
I think the DL4 is more versatile, but the RE-20 is awesome I am looking to add one to my board at some point. Its more for vintage delay tones like tube echo's and tape echo for that Gilmour type tone. The DL4 can do this to an extend but has many other features the Boss pedal doesnt. Really depends on the sort of delay you are looking fo dude.
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
yea, my heart just melted when i played with it while i was at guitar center. hehehe.
i'm wondering though... it wouldn't really hurt if i put both on my rig right? =D
harbringer28 4 years ago
Lol, yeh I defo want both on my rig!! The nly thing it might hurt would be ur bank balance!
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago
i just got the dl4 but havin trouble with my timeing, got any tips for me
sterpy101 4 years ago
Afraid not, just practice dude. Keep your foot tapping, or play to a metronome at first. Timing is a natural thing for some folk, and others need to practice at it, so just keep playing and it will come.
craigmcarthur1 4 years ago

Whats the song?
MrFilmreel 4 years ago
Its one of my bands songs, it was originally in a song called 'Fortune Unknown' but I replaced it with another riff, which there is a clip of, its on a vid of the line6 DL4 called modulation delay example or something like that.
Its been used in a new song called 'We Dont Do That Here'
