Im going on an exhange trip for a year to germany, and my girlfriend pretty much told me today that shes gonna break up with me when i leave. This song really hits home for me, and is making this tough time in my life a little easier. Thank you, John Coltrane.
I know i might sound a bit dorkly but, when i listen to this i always imagine i'm on a space carrier, on low-to-zero gravity and dim lights, watching the solar system and the stars pass by the window
What album is this off? Sometimes I think jazz is so dreamy and it can make me feel very relaxed at times and puts me into a nice, cosy stupour. Is this normal? This track makes me feel so relaxed and chilled out, I can feel waves of warmth crashing through my body. This is like a drug. It has taken a lot of getting used to, but I now love a lot of jazz (non-vocal only) but I really hate vocal jazz.
Many thanks for the post>>>An historic meeting in the studio of two giants of jazz, namely Coltrane and Ellington. Both mesh in an astonishing ballad performance of this Duke Ellington original despite being three or four jazz generations apart. An unforgetable classic of jazz on record.
The first 2 minutes are so mesmerizing/depressing, If i'd have been more down I would have sliced my veins between those 2 minutes. If I ever decide to do it, it will be with those 2 minutes on the background.
In other words I just found this song so deep and beautifull, just the piano alone invites you to pull the trigger. So much awesomeness, I love you Coltrane (im not suicidal).
theres something so unique and magical about jazz, its something words cannot describe, its music. this song is just so pure and beautiful, *tears of joy*
when I hear this song I imagine walking from the rain into a smoky jazz club and everything is slo-mo, you spot this beautiful woman and you walk up to her and take her hand and just do a smooth dance all night.
words cant explain what this song feel's like im a hardcore rap fan and 60's rock fan but i love blues and jazz just the same i always picture a sunny day with the leafs falling off the trees and i lissin to this song just pure magic

Sorry if I am overly ignorant but, is he actually playing alto on this song? I am curious because of the picture and also since the register seems a bit high for a tenor... Not an expert though, so please be nice if I am talking crap. Regardless, what a beautiful tune!!
@clanire Thanks for enlightening me! I am new to the whole sax business, I've been playing for only two weeks now so, you know... I love Coltrane but someone suggested that I start off with the alto since it's a bit softer on beginners than the tenor. I'm loving it, I've been a guitarist for 10 years now but somehow I am starting to think I was meant to be a saxophonist much more than I was a guitarist. Thanks again bud!
