Is this an Irish song? My Scottish grandmother used to sing it with us, and get a little tearful at the end, as she was a widow by then. I hadn't thought of it as Irish, but every version on youtube (not many) seem to have an Irish accordion and accent.
Harry Hibbs, the bast accordion player of all times and will take along time before anyone can replace him. Just watch that video, between two trees, he makes that look so easy.. What an outstanding musician he was.
Thanks for sharing Harry with us, im only 44 but remember learning to play the spoons with dad to Harry in the 70's dad played one handed something i still cannot do to this day, great post tonnes of memories.
Just stumbled across a live presentation by Harry. Awesome. Thanks for posting one of my favorite songs. I taped many of his songs in the 70s on Sunday afternoon,on a tape recorder of course, no video then. I still listen to those tapes and now i get to see him on video. What a bonus. RIP Harry. You just made my day.
This also is my first Harry Hibbs video if ever seen anywhere. He is an inspiration to me and I'm sure to every other Newfoundland accordion play and musician. Awesome. Wish there were more.
Harry Hibbs is my uncle, I can't believe this is on youtube!

I can remember going to the Westport Lounge in Corner Brook in the early '70's to hear Harry Hibbs. I loved him.
