Eve is mediocre. The combat's dull (even for a mmorpg), slow paced, very static (especially PvE + fleet battles in PvP). It's more complicated than most mmos, but despite what some claim it isn't very different, the basics are the same, it is very similar to playing other games on a PvP server, it's not really a proper sandbox.
Nor is it as harsh as some make out (same as any mmo with PvP looting) and PvP is often uncompetitive, so is less harsh than games the force competitive PvP.
@Trolozaur I never said its a complete fail just some aspects of it fail. I still play EvE. There is no shit to deal with in EvE at least for me anyways. The game makes you feel as if you haven't really accomplished anything because all the other players that were there before you make you look like shit when your compared to them. Tutorial sucks btw. EvE is a good game obviously but it looks like theres no real incentive to playing the game other than looking at your new ships and blowing up ppl
@Trolozaur LOL! Where do you EvE players get the idea that people who don't like EvE aren't smart. Your stupid for saying that, you guys have such an elitist attitude because you think EvE is for braniacs well its not its just for people who have played the shit out of other mmo's and are looking for something long-term. EvE is not complex as many think it is. I've only been playing for about six days and I understand the general basics of the game. EvE is not about intelligence but waiting.
Sorry to say but EvE is boring, I dont like WoW because its too easy but EvE is biased to new players thats why its a fail compared to other mmos. It doesn't give you any avenue of catching up with other players and I think this is where the game fails. It takes you a shitload of time before you get to the point your really allowed to do something useful which is about 6 months which is about $90 down the drain. :( Its annoying that alot of eve players say people that dont like it are immature.
@Swizzik I agree. I've been playing for a little over 3 months and the amount of catching up is just ridiculous. Its why I hardly see any new players around when checking their info. EVE has such potential to be a massive MMO (Atmost I see maybe 35-40K people online during peak) but the amount of catching up new players have to do is just too much for the average gamer. You might as well buy a 12 month sub and come back with all the skills done, thats how frustrating it can be.
Completely wrong. EVE is one of a few MMO which allows you to actually do something from the beginning (PVP wise), also tbh there is no such thing as "catching up with other players", it's more about specialization and to know 'how to'. More skill points in game gives you more possibilities and universality, and thats it, 7 days old char can beat 2 years old char (i made it a few times), show me other MMO where it is possible.
It's simply more about experience than in-game skill points
I'M STILL WAITING FOR INFINITY TO COME OUT! If you don't know what that is, youtube Infinity: the search for earth and watch the tech demo, full newtonian physics and the most realistic battle system known to man. :3
I tried it 3 years ago when i was 15 and i was to youngh to understand it all alone so i gave up. Now i got the dad of a mate to invite me for the 21 days and with the guide on eve online its alot easier. so for those wanting to try it, find a guide and give it a go! and dont be scared to lose a ship
If you are scared about playing eve online, Dont be, Yes it has a bigger learning curve than "WOW" But once you have got over that, You wil truly then love EVE Online.
@JJcremin1 You're right. 350 mil ISK, and I have several friends that earn over this amount passively every month and haven't payed to play in a loong time.
thanks for the review. I don't understand the complaints about your review style. I don't know anything about the game, but you gave me a taste of it here. And your speaking style is much more eloquent and easier to follow than many of the other game commentary videos I've seen.

i love this concept. Space is infinitely inspiring to me as an artist. I just can't afford that monthly fee. Just floating around in your ship seems so peaceful.
eve works by taking your money and confusing the fuck out of you, it has to be the worst frigging game i have ever played i would rather play with a mousetrap than play this pile of retarded garbage
When they are going to decide to make the begginer steps a bit more eazier, the ui not so clustered in the start, etc etc, i "maybeeeeeeeeee" give it a shot.
Untill then this game is full of bullshit for newcomers, dont EVEN BOTHER
@rikkof No :) it just takes a little dedication. I've tried this game about twice, and i just made a new trial account and set down quite a few hours in my first 2 days. The UI becomes second nature, it's quite an amazing experience to play this game.
Learn this too: It really works. Can flippers can be confused: Continuously jettisoning 1 unit of Velspar to leave behind garbage cans (dang appropriate name) , while mining for your own full shipboard load of any ore, has proven to be a nice payback for can flipper rats as evidenced by the grape vine and personal observation and chat channels.
@XXXpallisterXXX Thats what they all say, the in-common game technique of grinding in WoW is no way near superior to the likes of dynamic combat and dynamic events. So easilly topped.
@XXXpallisterXXX Hmm, yes I do think it will top WoW. WoW is old generation GW2 is new. GW2 will be topped when the next generation of gaming arrives after. If WoW actually would realize they need to keep their players instead of grinding them to boredom and making games instead of a film they might actually be better. Blizzard only care about their money, that is why you will never see a WoW 2.
Eve looks difficult from all the videos, and it is if you rush through training. Plus, since when are you good at a MMO over night? MMOs are supposed to be time consuming
It is a complicated game with poorly thought out atributes because you can kill thousands of NPCs and not gain a single skill point. The skill learning system is completely separate which makes no sense. There is constant lag, and the server goes down every day, sometimes multiple times a day randomly because they have to constantly fix bugs and systems crashing. WOW, Everquest, etc have a much more stable and intelligent setup, don't require a powerful video card, and cost less per month!
@DJRap99 Why does it make no sense? It's a great system, if you log off he keeps training the skill. You are a human in a pod, your not controlling the ship with your arms, you're hardwired (like the matrix) to get better at something you have to learn the skill, which takes time (kind of like downloading a big file). If your character was slashing with a blade, sure it would make no sense but in this context it does. And the server goes down once a day, same time, it doesn't crash.
If you are looking to try this game Pm me your email for a free 21 day trial invite. I'll send over some starting cash and a significant bonus if you subscribe :)
@UndercoverCracker look up the Tyrannis trailer, or the Dominion trailer. Granted the battles are a little overdramatized, but that is trully what the game is like.
No more learning skills! Try EVE now, message me with your email and I will send 21 day trial. Upon accepting I can help you out with starter funds and some helpful advice.
eve is awesome, but you have to be willing to devote some time to it. the PvP battles are outstanding.. and this is one of few games that allow you to create an alternate "you" and play it as you see fit without being confined to any specific class.. you can play how you want, do what you want and pursue what you want. Also.. if you make 300 million a month you can buy a plex and the monthly subscription is no more
@Theicemonkeyjr most of the ships have a fixed look you can upgrade them internally but not externally. there are a few ships for each race which you can create at custom and all have a unique look and benifits but these cost a lot, you will mostly find yourself in standard ships a the start.
Welcome to, well, the BEST GAME in the world. Try this, If you want a 21 day trial, instead of a 14 day one, please message meprivately and I'll set you up!
I'll even give you a lot of ISK, the in game money, to start out with!
I try to stay away from subscription games. If it is REALLY good, then it breeds an addiction. It can widdle your bank down quite a bit over time, I'll just stick with my one-time payment games, better, more responsible decision.
I caint see how your stating a game can widdle down your bank on one hand so you will play other games?
im guessing you mean you will play xbox or ps3 type games over online mmo's? If so here are some facts on the 2 diffrent types of games ps3 and xbox, they cost around 60$ new when a mmo cost 15$, so if u buy 2 games in three months you have spent more then playing a mmo. Seeing as you are prob an adult, "responsible decisions" would be not letting any game widdle your bank.
On another note: ps and xbox games lead down the same boring and predictable path, "no freedom" when a good mmo, "free or p2p" has more movement and multi choice. If you are addicted then its a good game when you dont want to stop playing. looking at a computor screen is no dif. then looking at TV so if you watch TV every day, you have breeded an addiction. So what ever you use to occupy your time is your choise but adding insults to a post doesent make you RESPONSIBLE
makes me laugh he said veldspar is the most profitable... you need to play eve, not just sit in ur noobship. complicated to use the drop down menu? no, whats complicated is doing it while under fire trying not to die and while making sure your firing back! THATS FREAKIN COMPLICATED. and cruisers are not necessarily better than frigs. fyi a well trained pilot can kill a noob in a cruiser with ease. heck, i had a guy in my corp that took down an abbadon and almost a second one in a sentinal.
I think this is the only game out there that is like EVE, when it isnt like star wars when its instant action. its sorta more realistic and serious, the game also gives me a certain amount of depth that I have not found in a lot of other sci-fi games. I think the idea for a game like this was always out there and everybody, whether they knew it or not, wanted. I think the only thing I dont like about EVE is when you die you lose all of your things, or do you? I forgot :D
Is there any form of fuel for your ship in this game? Like if you go at high speed will you use up most of your fuel then have to go to a station to refill?
@WoWIcebane there is cap which is that yellow thing in the middle when you use a afterburner or microwarp drive it uses this up however when you dock it automatically refills
What I really love about EVE Online is simply the "massive" feel of it. With the sole exception of maybe Sins of a Solar Empire, no other space-based game has given me a feeling of the real scale of the universe. Don't get me started on all the Star Trek game with planet-sized starships....
Though now I feel silly, I didn't realize that you could double-click to steer your ship, for the past couple days I've just been using the contextual buttons to steer, like orbit.
I would recommend the tutorial he mentions, skiping it is a big mistake. So please be careful... I came back here after doing the tutorial to brush up on memory. I can say I know how to play this game now, thanks.
@1506Eddy Wows graphics aren't bad- they're just made to look that way. Besides its not all about graphics if the game isn't fun to play. I've tried to play EvE so many times but can't seem to get into it. WoW is just simple fun- has a little bit of depth as far as getting the right stats. Great PVE (which I feel that EvE seriously lacks). And its just easy/fun to play. EvE was just SO overwhelming and SO complicated I could never get the hang of it although I still try :\
I want to start playing eve-online. It's been so long since ive built a computer. Anyone have a good system build/ideas that will play eve at full settings?
Im just looking for a good starting point. Thanks!
someone convinced me to play this on the pretext that its a lot better than X:3TC and its just different =/ i have a lot more fun with X3 even tho its singleplayer
so like, erm wat the funk is this all about?... are u all mental?...
but bro's well into it... shall I get it?.. i like scifi and like proper RPG's, erm... i think im gonna get eve :O.... fook, yeh, its done... next giro.. on it
Can you travel to other solar systems by merely warping towards the star you're pointing at? Oh, and I subbed. Will you be making any more EvE videos?
@Harvoable96 Like the sun in the solar system you're in? You can. Mostly, you get from system to system by Warpgates set up by your factions navy or other corporations
WoW graphics suck dick... but the games fucking awsome... ive never played EvE but ive played alot alot alot of WoW and call of duty would you recomend it?
@AsusGamerBoi I wouldn't to you, sadly, if you were looking for a space MMO, there really isn't a good one out there IMO. this game is pretty much point and click, and I know I will get flamed, but to me, that isn't skill, to me, skill is not only out thinking and out clicking your opponent, it is out manuvering him, consentrating fire on his ships areas while you spread out his hits on your ship.
@olPsychotixlo There may be with power management, but for me, I was hoping for something like freespace where you actually control your ship, where to dodge missiles you actually have to dodge them, not boost speed and outrun them. It all comes down to personal preference, I'd prefer it if to win you had to outfly your opponent in addition to managing those abilities.
@BFGfreak Sounds like you should check out Infinity: Quest for Earth. It's not out yet, but has "twitch" controls - you fly your own ship and shoot your guns. There's currently a prototype combat simulator using the games engine, called ICP, on their website. Check it out.
There is much more to piloting ships than pointing and clicking. For instance, manually approaching someone to maximize your transversal velocity, avoiding as much incoming damage as you can while you get into range. Not just selecting the guy you want to approach and hitting "approach". That is how you get killed.
@GamersRemote no - its all mouse driven. double click to move a certain direction, click to orbit at a range, click to keep your target more than x miles away, etc.
@EveOnlineReview Oh okay, I've seen in other videos people talking about using their joy stick to pilot it, unless you can download extra content to allow this.
@GamersRemote if you do a Google search for eve joystick, there's an eve-search link about a program... thats all I can find. sounds like it might have worked a while ago, unknown if it still does. Looks like it simulates mouse clicking...
Is there i monthly fee to play this game? I'm very into Astronomy and space stuff and this game looks awsome and if that soundtrack that was there is in the game itself, then that game would have a good feel (or whatever it's called) :P.
If there is a monthly fee is there any good private servers? :D
Yes, this game is pay to play. however, there is 14,21 day trials that you can try the game out (holla back to me for a 21 day one ;D ). And also, once you can figure out your own network of good income you can buy a in-game item called PLEX, (Pilots's Licence Extension) that will extend 30 days to your account. Yes there is private servers exist, but their not really popular
I think this is a good review im not sure why people are saying this is boring. Im just goin to start playing eve and i dont find this boring atoll the idiots who said this is boring must have played this game for awhile or something.
@UltimateGamer82 hey dude, I use FRAPS + Sony Vegas (its way better than Camtasia to screen record games). Also make sure you record Eve in a window if you have some huge high resolution screen. A 19 inch screen should be ok if you play in 1024x768... im pretty sure thats the rez I windowed down to.
so...im new to this game, and I read the book by Tony Gonzales and i was wondering since you mentioned pods and clones, im assuming that you start off as a capsuleer? or do you have to earn it?
@marcusFOREVER not quite, you have various levels of clone that stop your character "dying". You upgrade your clone as you learn more. If you don't upgrade it, you lose skill points when/if you get your pod destroyed.
I always wanted to play EVE Online regularly. I just can't get timecards in stores. Hopefully they'll sell them in stores soon, being forced to use the demo instead gets rather annoying.
Fuck this game, once you get killed you have to spend half a dya buying new ship flying back there salvaging whatever is left of you concidering you wont die again and it takes for fuckign ever! like 2 hours or more not to mention it costs alot. and the missions are unfair once you go and you can kill everyone easily once you go and htey anihilate you, you can never know whats gonna happen. when htey block your ability to warp out youre screwed. FUCK this game
So you cant stear with your keyboard, mouse or joystick at all? you have to right click to go somewhere? It does not sound like youcan stear so presise in tht case.. please awnser. (sorry for bad english)
so is there is a "skill" that you just sit still to do? I think I've heard of mining. I like these in-depth games (not the prices though ugh) and I like to do planning but it irks me to think I might forget to watch and I'd fly right into every enemy near me :)
Also, can you actually stop your ship without mining? like just press all the way left on the speed thing.?
dont get me wrong, this game looks very interesting and different which is a good change from most MMO's available atm. But what is the objective to this game? In games like WoW, guild wars, etc, you level through questing and can run through dungeons in a team. What do you do in this game other than mine ore and attack single ships that take ages to fly to?
When I started EVE I was disappointed to not have a joy-stick but after getting used to the gameplay and understanding it a bit better, I understand that it would be too much. EVE with a controller would be way too much, it would mess with the gameplay too much.
The most underrated game i've ever played. Highly recommended

@UndercoverCracker look up the Tyrannis trailer, or the Dominion trailer. Granted the battles are a little overdramatized, but that is trully what the game is like.

dementedpilgrim 9 months ago
eve is awesome, but you have to be willing to devote some time to it. the PvP battles are outstanding.. and this is one of few games that allow you to create an alternate "you" and play it as you see fit without being confined to any specific class.. you can play how you want, do what you want and pursue what you want. Also.. if you make 300 million a month you can buy a plex and the monthly subscription is no more
Kopihucky 10 months ago
at the biggining tthis game looks so tranquill, alone in space. looks like a really cool game. looking forward to trying it out

I may be interested in this after I've tried the trial and if the subscription fee was lower.

Can you upgrade your ships and make them physically look different or just buy new ones?
Theicemonkeyjr 10 months ago
@Theicemonkeyjr most of the ships have a fixed look you can upgrade them internally but not externally. there are a few ships for each race which you can create at custom and all have a unique look and benifits but these cost a lot, you will mostly find yourself in standard ships a the start.

chriscos123 11 months ago
I try to stay away from subscription games. If it is REALLY good, then it breeds an addiction. It can widdle your bank down quite a bit over time, I'll just stick with my one-time payment games, better, more responsible decision.
utoob251 11 months ago
@utoob251
Seeing as you are prob an adult, "responsible decisions" would be not letting any game widdle your bank.
bi0nic29 11 months ago
@bi0nic29 I'm a pc gamer, way cheaper. Prices go down quicker, I'm happy. =)
utoob251 11 months ago
@utoob251
So what ever you use to occupy your time is your choise but adding insults to a post doesent make you RESPONSIBLE
bi0nic29 11 months ago
makes me laugh he said veldspar is the most profitable... you need to play eve, not just sit in ur noobship. complicated to use the drop down menu? no, whats complicated is doing it while under fire trying not to die and while making sure your firing back!

I forgot :D

Though now I feel silly, I didn't realize that you could double-click to steer your ship, for the past couple days I've just been using the contextual buttons to steer, like orbit.

comon dude! EVE graphics dominate WOWs ! and will continue to for as long as the game exists
1506Eddy 1 year ago
@1506Eddy Wows graphics aren't bad- they're just made to look that way. Besides its not all about graphics if the game isn't fun to play. I've tried to play EvE so many times but can't seem to get into it. WoW is just simple fun- has a little bit of depth as far as getting the right stats. Great PVE (which I feel that EvE seriously lacks). And its just easy/fun to play. EvE was just SO overwhelming and SO complicated I could never get the hang of it although I still try :\
SVPrelude 1 year ago
@SVPrelude sorry i just have to point out that EvE is all about PvP, don't make others think that EvE lacks this because it really doesn't.

WoW graphics suck dick... but the games fucking awsome... ive never played EvE but ive played alot alot alot of WoW and call of duty would you recomend it?
AsusGamerBoi 1 year ago
@AsusGamerBoi I wouldn't to you, sadly, if you were looking for a space MMO, there really isn't a good one out there IMO. this game is pretty much point and click, and I know I will get flamed, but to me, that isn't skill, to me, skill is not only out thinking and out clicking your opponent, it is out manuvering him, consentrating fire on his ships areas while you spread out his hits on your ship.
BFGfreak 1 year ago
@BFGfreak I don't think you've played EVE Online.
Theres alot more skill involved then just pointing , and clicking.
olPsychotixlo 1 year ago 19
@olPsychotixlo There may be with power management, but for me, I was hoping for something like freespace where you actually control your ship, where to dodge missiles you actually have to dodge them, not boost speed and outrun them. It all comes down to personal preference, I'd prefer it if to win you had to outfly your opponent in addition to managing those abilities.
BFGfreak 1 year ago
@BFGfreak Sounds like you should check out Infinity: Quest for Earth. It's not out yet, but has "twitch" controls - you fly your own ship and shoot your guns. There's currently a prototype combat simulator using the games engine, called ICP, on their website. Check it out.
Chavtheworld 1 year ago
@BFGfreak You know nothing about eve.
There is much more to piloting ships than pointing and clicking. For instance, manually approaching someone to maximize your transversal velocity, avoiding as much incoming damage as you can while you get into range. Not just selecting the guy you want to approach and hitting "approach". That is how you get killed.

So you can use a joy stick to pilot your ship?
GamersRemote 1 year ago
@GamersRemote no - its all mouse driven. double click to move a certain direction, click to orbit at a range, click to keep your target more than x miles away, etc.
EveOnlineReview 1 year ago
@EveOnlineReview Oh okay, I've seen in other videos people talking about using their joy stick to pilot it, unless you can download extra content to allow this.
GamersRemote 1 year ago
@GamersRemote if you do a Google search for eve joystick, there's an eve-search link about a program... thats all I can find. sounds like it might have worked a while ago, unknown if it still does. Looks like it simulates mouse clicking...

Is there i monthly fee to play this game? I'm very into Astronomy and space stuff and this game looks awsome and if that soundtrack that was there is in the game itself, then that game would have a good feel (or whatever it's called) :P.
If there is a monthly fee is there any good private servers? :D
Thanks!
jonasga91 1 year ago
@jonasga91

What do you use to record your game playing on eve? I used camtasi but it bogs the system down so bad. Thanks
UltimateGamer82 1 year ago
@UltimateGamer82 hey dude, I use FRAPS + Sony Vegas (its way better than Camtasia to screen record games). Also make sure you record Eve in a window if you have some huge high resolution screen. A 19 inch screen should be ok if you play in 1024x768... im pretty sure thats the rez I windowed down to.

@marcusFOREVER not quite, you have various levels of clone that stop your character "dying". You upgrade your clone as you learn more. If you don't upgrade it, you lose skill points when/if you get your pod destroyed.

so is there is a "skill" that you just sit still to do? I think I've heard of mining. I like these in-depth games (not the prices though ugh) and I like to do planning but it irks me to think I might forget to watch and I'd fly right into every enemy near me :)
Also, can you actually stop your ship without mining? like just press all the way left on the speed thing.?

ryanboyce1 2 years ago
dont get me wrong, this game looks very interesting and different which is a good change from most MMO's available atm. But what is the objective to this game? In games like WoW, guild wars, etc, you level through questing and can run through dungeons in a team. What do you do in this game other than mine ore and attack single ships that take ages to fly to?
sirslobalot 2 years ago
When I started EVE I was disappointed to not have a joy-stick but after getting used to the gameplay and understanding it a bit better, I understand that it would be too much. EVE with a controller would be way too much, it would mess with the gameplay too much.
