Low altitude aerobatic demonstrations are just about the most dangerous form of flying short of actual combat. Having said that, I wonder why he didn't immediately lower the nose? The crash was caused in part by being at an ultra-low airspeed, a high angle of attack at a low altitude, and being below single-engine maneuvering speed when the engine failure occurred. The correct response would have begun with an immediate reduction of angle of attack.
when god created the earth and came to Canada, he gave them immense beauty rich in natural resources and culture. Gods Angel then turned to God and said "Why Father are you giving such beauty to this land, why is this place so lucky?. God replied "they are not that lucky, wait till you see the douchebags they have to live next to"
The Flight Safety investigation continues to examine the loss of thrust in one of the aircraft's engines, factors that prevented safe in-flight recovery of the aircraft, and training for demonstration pilots.. “It started to slide to one side and the nose started to drop… so I knew my only chance of survival was to pull the ejection handle,” he said. “My training kicked in. I knew I had to do it. It’s something that we train to do, but it’s rare to actually have to do it.”
Interesting comments any of you people work with those guys the maneuver he was doing was a High Alpha Pass it seems to be a left turbine compression stall on the right engine and it leaves you with no maneuvers possible at that low-speed ejection is the only solution these are all professional pilots and you saw the proof right in front of your eyes. For the comment it was just a hornet it shows what you know.
@lucianmop its people like you that make people take their own lives. just because shes not the prettiest girl in the world doesnt give you the right to make fun of her.

themattwish dumy haves to think! piloits dont know what they need to no to fight an F-18 fighter jet, This i now because i am in the Air Force qnd used to operate the aresster system for the f-18s in inuvik!
they learn and do what they can with the plan in order to be prepared for that little extra bi that they may have ask for when in a combat situation!
that being said there is a new war starting as we speak if you read the news
@hewittdj1 I am an idiot? How about the pilot who flies a million dollar plane at stall speed just to show off and crashes it into the ground? He is not an idiot?
@TirianB You can not tell the cause of the accident from this video and fact is it is pretentious of you to do so. Did you see the interview with the pilot who said he encountered some turbulence and gave the plane power to pull out? Perhaps his plane went into an aggravated stall as a result of a down draft... 0_0
@TirianB Sorry Dumbass...but that pilot is not a moron. He was excecuting a well-known airshow manuever called a "High-Alpha Pass" in preperation for an airshow he was to perform in soon. One of the engines ingested some foreign debris and shut off...at the same time he cranked the throttle to pull out of the manuever. This caused a difference in Yaw that could not be recovered from, even with rudder applied fully in the opposite direction.
@gruntloverdx Yes, he is a moron for doing a "High-Alpha Pass" 10 feet off the ground. Why the heck does everybody defend this guy? If people would fly aircrafts like they are supposed to be flown, from one place to another in a safe height above the ground, no one would be hurt. People who crash aircrafts by doing airshow maneuvers are indeed morons in my book. They can just fly properly and stop with their showing off.
@TirianB By the looks of it he was more like 100 feet off the ground. And by the way, this is very well known maneuver and had executed it multiple times (22 I think) this season alone. BTW, this is his job, and his aircrafts purpose, so don't talk shit about someone doing their job. Fuck off, you under educated loser.
@TirianB That was absolutely the way to fly combat maneuvers in a combat aircraft that was never meant for point a to point b flying, its not a bloody cessna.
@TirianB I would ageree with you if he was flying a Boeing, but not when your flying a high-performance fighter jet. Your wrong. Deal with your obvious failure and drop it.
@SuperColossal33 So what? It's the wings that keep a plane in the air, not the engine. If you fly in a way that causes you to crash if you lose the engine, then you are a moron, just like the guy in this video.
@TheMattswish If people are paid to show off, and risk being killed, why the heck is it always oh so sad when they do get killed? That is exactly why they do it. They don't fly planes like they are meant to be flown, they fly them in a way which increases their risk of being killed, just for the thrill of it. In my opinion they are nothing but suicidal idiots, and people should stop feeling sorry for them when they get killed. They can just stop doing what they are doing.
@TirianB thats a funny way to put it, if everyone was afraid to do this job and not do it so what do we do when shit happens? throw rocks at incoming aircraft? They are not crazy or suicidal, they are fighter pilots, people who fly aircraft have a passion for it, they are living their dream. I'll ask you a question, would you rather live 200 years in a straight jacket staring at a white wall or live 2 years living a full and exciting life? now replace the white wall with an office cubicle.
His fault,it's called paying attention to your Alpha and your airspeed.Too high alpha, low speed, equals what happened here. The pilot SHOULD have known that.

Pretty sure he lost an engine. In still photos of the ejection you can see the variation in engine nozzles. A classic low-speed, asymetric thrust issue. Same thing that happened to the MiG-29 at the Paris air show in 1989. This pilot looked like he was much lower than the MiG, though still having an open parachute higher after ejecting much earlier in the rotation.
how convenient. first the government jams a $9 bil bill with a $12 bil more for maintenance. when we complain, suddenly a plane crashes to shut us up. the funny thing is that it happened in southern Alberta, where people give their lives for Harper to be right. I suspect sabotage by the government and military contractors to shut opposition. this is the same as terrorist attacks in Toronto right after people complained about the lumber deal Harper made. don't complain or bad thing happen to us
i was ending my epic road trip on that day. i was driving just north of lethbridge around the time of the accident. we did see some smoke. i didnt even knew this happened until yesterday. ill glady take those cf 18's off the governments hands when they are replaced.
@bobfish0013 It was a stall. This was not a vertical climb. It was a slow speed pass sometimes called minimum controllable airspeed. The F-18 does not have "thrusters". What likely happened was while increasing throttle to maintain altitude the R. engine failed for whatever reason. It could be a compressor stall. Because the airspeed is so slow, this can causes a wing tip stall and the plane will spiral into that direction. No matter the cause, the end result is that there was a stall.
God, I don't want to be a conspiracy nut, but this is really convenient for a government that's been under criticism for spending a lot of money on replacing those planes.
Why can't they write Alberta instead of AB? Do the extra letters cost them money? Is the operator focused on her ABs? Or maybe, it didn't happen in Alberta...
@goarmy48 You are stupid.

The plane probably went into a stall, because that 45* angle is quite a dangerous angle which in confirmed by this vid.

God, I don't want to be a conspiracy nut, but this is really convenient for a government that's been under criticism for spending a lot of money on replacing those planes.

Also, its great to see Canadians using feet instead of meters. Great.
HugeJasFilms 1 year ago
@HugeJasFilms Why exactly? The base 12 system makes very little sense for measurements.

Why can't they write Alberta instead of AB? Do the extra letters cost them money? Is the operator focused on her ABs? Or maybe, it didn't happen in Alberta...
