Why didn't that squirrel go apesh*t and struggle like crazy when you were handling it? Was it sedated or something? Just wondering, it looks so calm, didn't even flinch or squirm when you were trimming it's teeth.
@Xonx68 Their incisor teeth are like our hair or finger nails. It doesn't hurt to cut your hair or nails. There are no nerves in there. They themselves grind their teeth on metal and wood to keep them trimmed. I didn't hurt her at all. She was not sedated. Now the rest of their teeth are like our teeth. I'd have to take her to a vet to be sedated and have the vet work on those teeth. Those teeth have regular roots and nerves like our teeth.
@MaryCummins Yes, I understand about the incisors, I know you weren't putting her through any pain. I just wondered because it's still a wild animal, and most wild animals would struggle like the dickens, or at least squirm alot to break free of anything restraining them. Was this squirrel in such a weakened state from not being able to feed itself adequately that it just didn't have the strength to struggle?
@Xonx68 I hold them a special way so they don't struggle. I put a towel in the crate, wedge them face first into a corner with the towel around them, wrap the towel around them so they are now a squirrel burrito. I hold them firmly with one hand by the back/shoulders, put part of the towel over their eyes, make sure they can't get a leg free. Then they realize they can't escape so they just sit there. Just don't let up on your grip.
i love you for what you do. i'm gonna be honest, some of your videos make me cry. you have such a big heart. to do all these nice things for these poor animals, and without pay. you're absolutely wonderful. (:
Poor little thing, will it be necessary to remove those teeth if she's to be released back into the wild? Or will she need to be kept for regular trimmings?
@mdvvi She's doing great now, lots of energy, running around, playing with toys, trying to get out of her enclosure. As soon as she's proper weight, I'm taking her to my vet to see what can be done with her incisors. They are permanently deformed from a cleft palate.
More posts from other deleted video: Thank you for the work you do, Why don't you invest in a tripod stand for when you do videos like this? I really enjoy watching your videos.,You're marvelous, just in case no one has told you that lately :] Good job. I hope she doesn't suffer anymore. i feel bad for that squirrel how is he doing? That poor thing ;(
@MaryCummins I had a tripod. It was just tough to see what I was doing through the camera. Plus, tough to trim and make the trimming viewable. My small camera broke so I only have my big camera.
These are comments from the first version I loaded up and deleted: you are an angel, woahhh... poor squirrel., Your great! , You're the best animal caretaker... :), If you trimmed his teeth and your feeding him(I think it would be nuts idk if they eat anything else) wouldn't that kind of hurt for the squirrel?, Please keep us updated!, Aww! Keep us updated, I am really interested on knowing how he does. ,
Immediately after trimming her teeth she ate, drank, ran around her cage then tried to get out. She's now chewing on wood which is a good sign. I still think it's a cleft palate. The top incisors were growing straight back down her throat. 1/2" had grown into the roof of her mouth. Any more and I would have needed to take her to my vet. I will take her to my vet in a few days. I need her to gain weight and get stabilized first.
@topperheartramada She has a cleft palate. Her upper palate is deformed. That causes her teeth to grow in the wrong direction. They are growing backwards and curving up into the roof of her mouth.
@civic776 Don't worry. She will be fine. I believe it's a cleft palate. We can take care of this surgically by a vet. She needed to have her teeth trimmed so she can eat and drink.

@MaryCummins why did the teeth grow that way in the first place? did she not eat proper squirrel food?

@topperheartramada It is demonspawn, when a creature is not created with the holy blessing of Yahweh abominations such as this are born.

@zielinski91 I have seen quite a few abominations that have been born with all sorts of blessings.
