Thanks for making this marbles ive been considering buying a 1911 for years now and one this thats stuck with me is the difference in guide rod length as far as reliability thanks again bro later!
Yes, the GI setup is my way, too --and takedown and reassembly can be done differently now since there is no guide rod assembly. I tilt the 1911, pop out the latch, then pull the whole slide right off, the spring comes out automatically (hold with hand), and the rest is cake as you know I am sure. I reassemble in reverse. I was gonna make a YT vid, but there are already a few who do it just like I do. Spring wear is always a possibility running like this, but if you have extras, you are gtg.
Hey yinzer i did the same same thing but i have the full lenght wilson combat on mine im put a vid up soon so b on the look out for it cause i added something else that im sure ur gonna like
@Lookinformemarbles I prefer to carry something that I can strip without a tool, otherwise it doesn't bother me. I don't carry a 1911 anymore, but I love to shoot them.
Iv'e heard of the spring binding problem but in over 20 years of competition and hobby shooting have never seen it happen.I did get a full length guide rod for my 1911 and your right, It is a pain. As far as weight and muzzle flip, they make a Tungsten guide rod that's got some weight to it.Could effect you speed and gun balance though. Stay safe.
lol....why did you put the bushing on the spring? is that a new accuracy mod?

thats why i didnt buy a loaded cause the full length rod is something that is not needed at all in a 1911

I replaced my 2 piece on my Springfield 1911 loaded as well with a GI guide rod and plug for the same reason. no issues so far after 300 rounds.
