I totally agree with Jody. Unsung should of got her point of view of how it was like dating Jeffrey Daniels. We the fans only see the glitz and the glamour of these performers lives. We think that they are always happy and carefree, but the truth is, alot of these people have to go through alot to stay in this business.
I wanted to know did you an Jeff actually have an ongoing relationship or was it just on again off again? AND when in the world did he even have time to marry Steph lol? It seems like you all toured all the time. And I know Steph. was busy with her career as well. lol However, I can see how that would definitely cause tension an drama. @MrSexxxy20 myself being an ex-employee of Solar and knowing the behind mix scene of the company, there was more than just on-stage drama that ended the group and it's simple mathematics. No one was being paid. Top selling albums, sold-out concerts but their bank accounts generated no funds. By the time Jeffrey married Stephanie Jody was so over Daniel that her wedding gift to the singer should've been (if any) a gold engraved card reading "Better you, than me, girl. Congrats!"

So with that episode under his directorial and production, Griffey made sure the only story was to be told was of his OWN praises of Solar and not the true story of Shalamar, or Gearld Brown!
As soon as he said "We were bf & gf!" on Unsung I thought it sounded very fake and untrue simply because he seems so effeminate. I completely forgot that he'd married Stephanie Mills back then. He must've done it out of spite. He seems so dainty that you wonder if he even dated Jody just to APPEAR heterosexual. @nachalooman I was a teenager back then and 100 % did allow myself to be in many unfortunate situations, regardless of my birth sign. Hopefully, we all live and learn, which was a part of my message when I was interviewed for Unsung and the reason why I shared this. As with millions of people (girls/women) it took time for me to come into my own and to find the strength to step out, walk away and avoid situations and people who do not mean me well. I encourage it for everyone.
You probably get millions of these but...I think you're the coolest. I am so blessed to have been a young man during the late 70's and early 80's when I enjoyed some fabulous and great music. He's the 'Mary Wilson' of this group and very bitter because because he and his singing partner received a career smackdown from the underdog, and cowards down from a rematch. This is really eye opening and I'm glad that was cleared up. The story was sold on unsung that made it seem as if it was Jody and Jeffery vs Howard. Also that only Howard was fighting Jody. Now it seems like it was every man/woman for him/herself.
i can see why none of her relationships lasted, she seems difficult...and at the end of the day, in order to get the real truth, i would have to hear all of them speak it, not just her....1 perspective is never good enough for any of us...if someone to explain your story and you didn't get a chance to explain, you would be somewhat upset...i know i would, lol. : )

Jody, I never cared about Griffey until he was mentioned in stories like yours [and frankly, still don't]. I don't think many people did. To me the real wonders were the artists on the album cover and performing on the record. ;-).

I went to a taping of dance fever in the early 80's and shalamar was the musical guest. they performed make that move. jody worked the hell out show. but off camera she seemed so sad. now i know why.

For @missgodiver I did more searching since i don't know much about Shalamar & according to Allmusic Guide Jeffrey Daniel has no artist page. The singles chart history also says a lot, Ms. Watley has had more hits on the Hot 100, Dance Chart and R&B chart than the group & Hewett, whose never made a chart appearance on the Hot 100 only a few entries R&B. Ms. Watley's last entry was in 2008 I also read the Wikipedia pages of all & Ms. Watley has achieved the most. Yes, I'm proud of my captain

I really believe people only supported Shalamar because Jody was with the group. The reason i say this, Neither Howard nor Jeffrey had successful solo careers. Howard loves to make it seem as though Shalamar blew up because of him wrong, people filled those stadiums up to hear and see Jody Watley.

Glad you cleared up the relationship with Daniels because I was still unsure after the doc. It was a lot more involved then they mentioned. I can't wait for your book and hopefully a movie.

@MrSexxxy20 myself being an ex-employee of Solar and knowing the behind mix scene of the company, there was more than just on-stage drama that ended the group and it's simple mathematics. No one was being paid. Top selling albums, sold-out concerts but their bank accounts generated no funds. By the time Jeffrey married Stephanie Jody was so over Daniel that her wedding gift to the singer should've been (if any) a gold engraved card reading "Better you, than me, girl. Congrats!"

So with that episode under his directorial and production, Griffey made sure the only story was to be told was of his OWN praises of Solar and not the true story of Shalamar, or Gearld Brown!

Hopefully, we all live and learn, which was a part of my message when I was interviewed for Unsung and the reason why I shared this. As with millions of people (girls/women) it took time for me to come into my own and to find the strength to step out, walk away and avoid situations and people who do not mean me well. I remember seeing a Shalamar, Odyssey and Rose Royce live show back around 1998, I think that a chubby Jeffery Daniels was the only original member there. lol. This is really eye opening and I'm glad that was cleared up. The story was sold on unsung that made it seem as if it was Jody and Jeffery vs Howard. Also that only Howard was fighting Jody. Now it seems like it was every man/woman for him/herself.

Yhe record company requested visual, and he decided to do it with Shalamar, but only if Jody would appear with the group, otherwise, no video......Besides, vocals were recorded separately! @MrCovering Griffey cared only of Griffey. Jody was wise enough (through all the turmoil she was experiencing with the group) to leave the ship before that boat bellied-up, visioning her self-worth and BRAND, knowing it carried more weight that the Shalamar name. The Griffey family had no money to bury the man. Carolyn vocals could never compare to Jodys. Shalamar, with past replacements never had a bass sing.... Now, it's the return of Melvin Franklin!

@missgodiver I see via Google that your group Shalamar will be performing at the Circus "Tavern" in London soon with other acts I've never heard of. The Circus "Tavern" according to Wikipedia is famous for being the longtime host of the world darts championship. Checking now to see if a mistake was made & this is a "stadium" since you seem stuck on that point as if Shalamar is all that . Thank the heaven she doesn't do those pathetic disco nostalgia shows at taverns.

It's kind've like on the youtube clip of you doing that poor rendition of Michael Jackson's 'One day in your life'..... you remember it dont'cha? Of course you do. Voice cracking, couldn't hold your note, the band playing in the key of A#, you ending the song in the key of C#, running out of air. Damn! Where's Jermaine Stewart when you need him!

Any artist that learned early in their career to drop the middle-man pimp, and come into their own, never looking back, definitely have my full support. So, yes, i call her Wonder woman. For @missgodiver I did more searching since i don't know much about Shalamar & according to Allmusic Guide Jeffrey Daniel has no artist page. The singles chart history also says a lot, Ms. Watley has had more hits on the Hot 100, Dance Chart and R&B chart than the group & Hewett, whose never made a chart appearance on the Hot 100 only a few entries R&B. Ms. Watley's last entry was in 2008 I also read the Wikipedia pages of all & Ms. Watley has achieved the most. Yes, I'm proud of my captain

My previous comment was directed to @missgodiver who can't seem to stay off Ms. Watley's channel and this post. Each comment left is more hateful and more jealous than the next which means she must have struck a nerve. Each time a comment is posted about what she is supposedly not and who is 'better' just confirms how fierce she really is
not just with her music and all but for growing into her own person and keeping on her own path something she always talks about and encourages for others

You seem to be a big supporter of Shalamar, Daniels, Hewett, Griffey don't they have videos for you to obsess on? I did some fishing around and found an article about Daniels abusing Stephanie Mills,Ebony 1982. Shalamar not respond to this s*** as you say, you're right, they've had their say for years.

I really believe people only supported Shalamar because Jody was with the group. The reason i say this, Neither Howard nor Jeffrey had successful solo careers. Howard loves to make it seem as though Shalamar blew up because of him wrong, people filled those stadiums up to hear and see Jody Watley.
